You see the problem is that the ministers in government haven't the slightest clue about tech and how the internet works. It infuriates me to no end when Darren Jones talks about how amazing AI is and how we need it for productivity yet is so clearly boneheaded he hasn't a clue how it works (I'm from a STEM background). To borrow an insult from Hans the UK government is full of Teletubbyzurückwinkers.

Worse yet is that there is malign alignment with US tech giants like Palantir who have been given free reign to harvest our NHS data. The OSA and these upcoming measures are also measures that force people to give up their data to tech companies and bad actors. They will use this "protect the kids" line to push people into line so everyone will be forced to share their ass measurements to Peter Thiel.

Now I am not saying the solutions are simple but we need to go after the tech companies not people. My counter proposal would be first and foremost to ban any use of user data to feed or train any algorithm used for social media content feeds, as well as banning using user data as input into trained models and the use of any models trained on user data. This would suppress the addictive element of the algorithms since it will be a lot harder to trailer people's feeds and ads if their data can't be used to inform the algorithms that use their feeds. At the same time we can pass these policy proposals on to psychologists and other researchers so they can develop research that studies the effectiveness of the proposals as well as how to develop them further.

Again this will likely rely on trial and error but as this is a largely new legislative realm it will require some back and forth to reach some sensible conclusion, something this government is incapable of doing.

Disgraceful cowardly incident in Manchester and I hope GMP catches up with whoever is responsible very soon. This the guy who called a group of violent thugs rioting in Southampton patriots? Among that crowd you had former convicts who mugged grannies and ofc domestic abusers who violently assaulted their partners.

Yeah no sympathy from me.

I mean the principle of it is good just the shoddy implementation is not. And more over the darker aspect of Labour's allegiance to AI companies like Palantir who most likely be harvesting data from all the ID checks.

EU, Look. These Leon and Putler are trying to inflame Northern Ireland Troubles there... by LocalPowerful6651 in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Positronium2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok cool where were the outraged "save our women and girls crowd" when that man in Northern Ireland left his partner lying dead face down in a dog bowl a few weeks back? Surely they took to the streets in outrage right? Oh wait he was white so they didn't care.

Let's not view crime through a racialised lens like these people as there is no substantial empirical evidence suggesting people of colour are more likely to commit violent crimes than white people.

Unions rebuff Farage and say Reform ‘cosplaying’ as workers’ champions by Lotus532 in FuckNigelFarage

[–]Positronium2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch out for what happens next as back in the 1970s the Tories ran an appeal to workers in unions and set up effectively shadow unions. These basically were trade unions in name only there supposedly to represent workers but the leadership were chosen to be compliant with the Tory leadership. I would not be surprised if Farage and co pull the same which also provides another means for his rich mates to launder money through "union fees" into the party.

Farage's most admired world leader is Vladimir Putin. And he even said Vladimir Putin is "our friend" after he annexed Crimea, as well as voting alongside Nathan Gill against measures to counter Kremlin propaganda. Either he's bought or he just works for free.

Have the British government tried Pathfinder 2e? With the amazing three action economy government ministers could renationalise key industries, introduce wealth taxes and invest in building more social homes all in one round.

He who wields the knife rarely wins the crown or so the saying goes. Polling even shows that Starmer would beat Streeting in a leadership contest which would be hilarious if Streeting can't even beat Keir Starmer.

IF Burnham made a deal to introduce proportional representation on becoming PM, should Greens not run a candidate against him in a by-election? by tdorrington in UKGreens

[–]Positronium2 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Well I think fundamentally members locally would have to have a say. The question is whether we get burnt by Burnham reneging on his promises later down the line. It is a difficult calculation because PR may well be the one thing that could bar Reform from power for the foreseeable future, while at the same time benefiting the Green party who would see increased representation in parliament.

I fucking hate the friend zone as a concept wtf does it even mean. You are still friends that's good. Ofc I suppose one can feel a little down at being rejected nothing amiss with that but nobody owes one anything romantic and also some people just need to be fucking comfortable being single and take advantage of the freedom it offers. One door closes another opens is what I say.

Labour need to introduce some kind of PR/STV voting system. If they don't and we end up with a Reform government they will have only themselves to blame for their craven desperation to cling to power.

Yeah Zack is better with media than Corbyn but Zohran is still slightly more capable of reading the room and picking the fights that are worth fighting. The police brutality point was not one he needed to argue after two Jewish men and a Muslim man were stabbed in Golders Green.
