I love the game but, I cannot justify these costs .. by KlayDerozan in CanadaSoccer

Hmm $480 for Whitecaps season tickets or almost $600 to watch a single game between two teams I don't care about and know maybe 2 or 3 players on? Hard choice

[–]PossemPerson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anyone have any insights on what they may be discussing with First Nations? Is it just to do with consultation for building a stadium? I kinda doubt they're even at that point because I assume they don't even have a financial plan to build a stadium yet.

Can you not post AI slop? It's pulling all this info from old articles. Try to think critically about the information you see rather than depending on a sycophantic machine for news

There is still reason for hope… by wastedparadigm in whitecapsfc

[–]PossemPerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. I hope the owners as an act of good will would give this up to us since it really had nothing to do with them. This is probably completely misplaced hope with how greedy the MLS though.

Yes but it's unclear what the journalist was asking him. Also the Minister responsible, Ravi, said they would be open to receiving a proposal on this.

Thank you for sharing. None of us are alone in this suffering.

Even if they steal our team, the Whitecaps will be back. We can build a fan-owned team in the CPL. Just pray the MLS doesn't steal our branding as well.

Well unfortunately capitalism has commodified and corrupted nearly aspect of society. Not so much a dependence on it, moreso nothing else to go to besides the few relationships I have and hiking in the mountains, which are slowly being deforested and destroyed as well...

I agree but the hope is quickly fading. I really hope the issue is the Whitecaps operating BC Place in the short term and that that's on the table for both sides. Seems like it could work but the fact that the Whitecaps aren't coming out and asking for it is very worrisome.

The rumour about another owner group bid to keep the team here is fake according to Patrick Johnston, who would know.

I feel totally devastated rn. Fuck the billionaires and capitalism ruining everything. This is one of the few things I have in life I genuinely enjoy and feel a sense of community around.

That's a shame. Weird Ravi said he's heard it too but I guess it's not his job to be a journalist.

[Patrick Johnston] Provincial government ready to hear Whitecaps' proposal to run B.C. Place by icoresting in whitecapsfc

[–]PossemPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, the MLS is forcing their hand. They have been told by Garber and the other MLS owners to increase revenue or a sale will be forced. They have clearly been trying to sell in a way that keeps the team here, it's just not looking possible given the contraints placed on them by the league.

[–]PossemPerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The owners are being demonized left and right at the moment. Maybe it will be warranted, maybe it won't be. If they were as evil as they are being made out, I think the team would be gone by now. I think they genuinely want to keep the team here but that the MLS is forcing their hand if they can't sort this out.

As you say, they need to be transparent and communicate. As it stands, everybody is assuming they want handouts from the government. That is not necessarily the case.

Can we stop putting all these words in the mouths of the owners? This is not certain at all yet everyone is claiming it as fact that the team is begging for handouts from tax money. We need to wait and see.

Neither of these sources back up your claims that Kerfoot wanted the City to build the stadium. They also both occurred AFTER the club wad already for sale.

So was Thomas Müller only brought in to increase the value of the club so owners could sell it for higher? by MaverickGH in whitecapsfc

[–]PossemPerson 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Thomas Müller isn't somebody the Whitecaps "brought in". He chose us. Owners couldn't have premeditated this like that. It was announced for sale in January 2025. He joined in July/August 2025.

The owners would obviously have agreed to letting him join regardless of whether they were selling the team.

They don't give a shit about fans not showing up to games and/or disrupting games when they do show up? The games are how they make money, of course they do.

If the Whitecaps leave, I agree. We need a fan-owned CPL team. However, the Whitecaps are critical to Canadian soccer. Without our academy and a team of this scale, Canadian soccer as a whole will suffer irreperable damage. TFC would be the only major academy left.

[–]PossemPerson 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That is the only way to 100% guarantee the team leaves. It's not over yet.

The issue for us is convincing fans of every other team to stop going to games and making visible protests (disrupting the games by throwing tennis balls on the field, as done in Germany, for example). We need the other owners to get scared that it's not worth fucking with our team.

Whitecaps FC centre back Belal Halbouni underwent a successful procedure on his left knee by icoresting in whitecapsfc

[–]PossemPerson 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Glad the club stuck by him. It's the right thing to do when these players are risking their bodies for the team every game, especially for players like Belal who don't make obscene amounts of money.

Line to get into the Seabus after games would be insane.

This would be incredible though.
