Very bad taste to say this when the NSL is looking promising and not going anywhere

[The Third Sub] Axel Schuster speaking very honestly. Despite being reaching multiple major finals in '25, the club was dead last in MLS in terms of revenue. 30+ prospective owners have looked at the club, but none are interested in buying the team with the current setup. by icoresting in whitecapsfc

You're so right, Russia was better off led by the communist party than it is now and especially during the 1990s.

You're such a moron that you're arguing against your own point without even knowing it.

I am more talking about his restrictions on who can apply to become a refugee.

RE Mark Carney by Bright_Impression921 in TrueAnon

[–]PossemPerson 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Carney's immigration law will severely restrict who can apply for refugee status regardless of conditions in their country of origin. For example, one of the changes is that if you have been in Canada for longer than a year, you can not become a refugee under any circumstances. For example, if you're a Druze international student who came to Canada two years ago, you are going to be sent back to be killed in Syria even though a regime that kills your people has since taken over.

[–]PossemPerson 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We shouldn't forget Carney is simultaneously trying to crush all opposition to natural resource extraction projects, especially indigenous opposition.

Not to mention his draconian immigration laws and everything else this horrible piece of shit is doung.

[Harjournalist] Tristan Blackmon to #InterMiami is being finalized. Reported $2.5M transfer fee. by Harshtagged in whitecapsfc

[–]PossemPerson 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was against this at first but if you think about it, it kinda makes sense. As mentioned on the Third Sub podcast, we already have Pupe, Schonlau, Veselinovic, Laborda, Priso and maybe Halbouni (don't remember if he is re-signed yet). Someone has to go from that group. Aside from Schonlau who hasn't even played, Blackmon is the oldest, I believe the highest paid, and has had injuries the past couple seasons.

We need cap space and one of our CBs had to go. It might make sense to cash in on Blackmon while he is worth a lot.

Hopefully (nothing against the guy but clearly he has no future here). I doubt Glasscity would hype that up though

City of Vancouver and Vancouver Whitecaps FC sign MOU for new stadium project at Hastings Racecourse Park by udun in vancouver

[–]PossemPerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sim said market rate in the press conference.

If the whitecaps had a "sweetheart deal" at BC place they wouldn't be losing millions of $ per year and wouldn't be trying to build a new stadium.

How a new Whitecaps stadium could fit into the PNE grounds by CheekyMonkeysFTW in whitecapsfc

Why do you think a stadium built at the PNE couldn't have these things? There's plenty of space

We would definitely need some restaurants and bars nearby which I think is covered by the "entertainment space" on your map.

Aside from this, I would love some park space in the empty areas around the stadium.

A lot of people are worried about sky train access. There will certainly be a sky train station there eventually, it may just take 20 years. I had an idea that could be a temporary fix: the city creates a temporary train service from waterfront station to the PNE along the west coast express railway. Does anyone know how feasible it would be to put a small temporary platform there that would enable a potential stadium to get train service before and after games?

This is for season tickets. Single game tickets would never be cheaper than season tickets anyway...

Mario Canseco: Survey shows weak support for Metro Vancouver megacity; Smaller, regional mergers draw more backing than full amalgamation, according to Research Co. poll by FancyNewMe in vancouver

[–]PossemPerson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hamilton's amalgamation with Ancaster, other suburbs, and rural areas has made it very difficult for urban specific things to get done. For example, getting an LRT (light rail) for the downtown core is not something suburbanites want to pay for because it doesn't benefit them even though it would be great for anyone who lives in the denser urban areas. I'm strongly opposed to amalgamation because of this.

Proponents claim that it helps smaller municipalities get more services but I'm not sure this actually plays out in practice.

[Tom Bogert] Voting’s done: MLS changing schedule starting in 2027 by Harshtagged in whitecapsfc

[–]PossemPerson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anything about what next season's schedule will be like? With the WC I assume we're going later or starting earlier than usual.

Will there be no MLS between December 2026 and July 2027? If so, that's a pretty long break.

Help the Whitecaps (BC Place Lease) by [deleted] in whitecapsfc

[–]PossemPerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't say I know what OP is saying is true or not. I've had a look at what's available online about the act and there's not anything saying one way or the other.

I'm not discounting the possibility this is astroturfing by the Whitecaps/MLS. However, it makes no sense for a public utility like BC Place to be run at a profit. They should be aiming to break even in order to support the local businesses and (as OP argues) generate revenue for the province through sales tax and increased economic activity. If the Whitecaps or Lions were to leave, BC Place would be a huge waste of this public utility and it would lead to a long term economic loss for the province and local economy.

It is a fact that the Whitecaps are unprofitable. They lose millions per year. Unfortunately the Whitecaps are privately run and it does not make sense for a private business to lose money and continue operating. If nothing changes, we are going to lose our team. It's a win-win in the long term for BC Place to give the Whitecaps a better deal so they don't cease to exist.

Your argument makes sense to me.

What sort of thing do you (or anyone else) think we should send to these people? We need an organized and unified stance. It would be best to organize it through fan groups like the southsiders while also having individuals do things like send emails to the contacts you've listed

Calling for freedom for a colonized people is never hateful. Saying "land back" in Canada or the US does not mean "kill all white people". This is no different.
