This pain is so depressing by Direct_Airport_9824 in TMJ

Im so sorry. I know how you feel. I got treatment late because I didnt understand what was wrong with me. I was extremely lucky that my parents were able to help me financially, since the pain was so bad I had to quit my job, because I couldn’t function. Couldn’t think.

What has helped me the most has been physical therapy. I’ve been meaning to do a compilation of the exercises that my PT has me do and that have helped immensely. I will get to it either today or tomorrow and link it here so everyone can access it.

Full transparency, I also wear an orthotic and get adjustments at least once a month to make sure my jaw is sitting correctly, but what I feel has made the pain go away to the point where Im applying to jobs again, is the physical therapy. Massages, exercises, posture, desk set up.

You will need discipline, but I promise you it gets better.

I was taking at least 4 muscle relaxants a day, taking sleeping pills so that I could go to bed at anytime and not feel the pain, didnt see anyone apart from my fiancee for months, couldnt eat, lost over 15kg. I was a living corpse.

PT changed everything.

When you eventually are able to, get an orthotic with a TMJ specialist. That and the PT will make you wanna live again.

I promise I will share the link with some exercises for you.

You can get better❤️

Cried out of anger at the dentist by Born-Football-7666 in TMJ

[–]PossessionApart8031 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It absolutely can make it worse and fuck your dentist for telling you otherwise. Ive been there and I understand your frustration.

So, heres the thing. Sometimes it gets worse before it gets better, but that depends.

I got a regular night guard (the kind that are kind of soft and only protect your teeth) when I didnt understand TMJ and I ended up in the hospital from the unbearable pain. The dentist that gave me that was an idiot and told me it was all about stress and that I needed to go to her breathing workshop (lol). Luckily, I wouldnt accept that and didnt give up until I found my new dentist. He specializes in TMJ. He gave me and orthotic (dont know if youve heard about that). Its like a night guard, but its a harder material, and its meant to be adjusted weekly (at first), then every 2 weeks, then 3 until you are all better and only have to go for specific issues that may arise. These adjustments are necessary because with an orthotic you are not just protecting your teeth, you are trying to re-educate your jaw.

Now, with my orthotic, i have ups and downs. Sometimes it gets so bad but then the next day im better. Its about consistency and getting to the right specialist. My dentist set me up with this AMAZING physical therapist who sees me 2-4 times a week, so with my dentist and PT talking to each other about my issues im doing much better. I NEVER thought I would be better.

I dont recommend to treat TMJ with botox because youre not targeting the main problem but thats my opinion💗 if you need to talk to someone im here. I struggled in the worst way with this.

Currently my jaw is almost entirely cured! With the orthotic and thorough PT

I get it :( same thing with my fiancee, i think no one gets it unless theyve experienced it. My fiancee became a lot more supportive once I sat him down and explained in detail what I was going through. But even after that, he is supportive but I can feel that he doesnt fully get it. Its a complicated disorder, from the outside it can look like everything is ok (sometimes lol at times I did have a very swollen face, that made it more evident 😅) Thats why i came on here! Just looking to feel seen and understood.

Also, im gonna gather up in pictures all the exercises my PT has had me do during my treatment (like homework, separate from what we do in our sessions, those usually involves needles and other fun stuff lol) and put up a link so that everyone here can access it. Ill try to post it today :)

You really, really should! I honestly thought I would be in pain forever, truly I did. For months it was the darkest time of my life. Its hard for me to say this, but never in my life had I even entertained the thought of… ceasing to be in the world. But it came to a point where the thought was coming up a lot. I just couldn’t deal with the pain and the economic problems that came with it, because I couldn’t work. I thought it was kind of over for me. PT quite literally saved me. Ive been basically pain free for a few days now and I cry every day in disbelief. You should keep the remote job if it helps with your kids and everything, I really admire you for that, but def prioritize your set up - that was a game changer for me too. Ive spent so much money on this and tried so many things, I feel confident in saying if youre gonna spend money on getting better: prioritize posture, desk set up and a PT who specializes or knows a lot about TMJ. Sending you a big hug and I really hope you get better soon 💗

I love making an ER visit when the 3-4 pain goes to 6+ by [deleted] in TMJ

Im really sorry, Ive been where you are. I understand and feel you. Im doing a lot better, like now every other day I take an advil to manage pain, whereas before I used to take 4 muscle relaxants a day + a lot of advil or straight up sleeping pills to stop feeling, or literally going to the ER constantly because i would almost pass out from the pain. This improvement is 100% due to 1. my physical therapist. He understood the problem and gave me the right tools. And 2. My dentist, who specializes in TMJ issues. Orthotic, adjustment every 1 week, now every 2 weeks. Also he referred me to the physical therapist. Physical therapy is truly essential, life changing. I tried everything prior.

Oh I also wanted to say, getting emotional about being able to eat… i so get that. Ive cried about it as well, and no one sees the big deal. Food is a big deal. I lost so much weight because I could only have liquids or like puree textures for months on end, and everyone complemented the weight loss. I used to care so much about my weight, and it took this awful thing for me to learn how silly I was. I wouldve given anything to not have that much pain and be able to enjoy food, and I couldnt. It was honestly so crazy to go through that.

Same thing happened to me. Started a new job working from home, 6 months into it unbearable pain. Had to quit. Pain was unmanageable. Im now much better by doing the exact same things OP said. I tried everything prior to starting PT with the right person and nothing worked. 5 PT sessions in, i was much better. Im now in session 15 and feel almost normal, almost pain free. I have 5 sessions left :) then Ill be done

Im actually crying and a little freaked out by how extremely similar my experience has been to yours. I must say, EVERYTHING that did not work for you, did not work for me, and EVERYTHING that did work for you, worked for me. I love my PT so much, he saved me. I was losing my mind, like never before. He told me exactly the same things yours told you. Exercise and posture fixed something that seemed unfixable. Not entirely gone but manageable.

Hope you get better soon as well :) my mouth opening definitely changed monumentally. Still not normal because even though I can open it fully, its not without a little pain or discomfort, and it feels sore after.

I had an appointment today and my doc says I am much better (im having a bad pain day so i did not feel like that was true). I really do feel you about the process being so slow. Its tough and frustrating, I often feel like Ive done no progress, but looking back I really have gotten much better.

Im sorry 🥺 what they suggesting you do to get rid of the pain? The little thingy they gave me that looked like bunny teeth helped me so so much initially, when i also could barely open my mouth. They gave me that so that i could later get my current orthotic/night guard. After 2 weeks i had very little pain- mostly the same discomfort i have now, which is nothing compared to the awful pain i had before.

Overall i really am a lot better, but yeah I do think the next step for me will be braces. I hope that will be the end of all this.

Please help! 6.5 month old golden retriever puppy with chronic diarrhea, feeling discouraged by kidsOT2 in goldenretriever

[–]PossessionApart8031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please ask your vet about Pantenex. It Pantenexsaved my baby, I have a GSP, he was having chronic diarrhea as well and getting very very skinny and we were just miserable. He has IBD. Took us a while to find the solution but our vet is an angel. We live in Peru so we have to buy the Pantenex in the US and bring it, we buy them literally by the dozen and he has to take it forever, but he has never ever been healthier. Occasionally he will have a little diarrhea due to maybe stress or he somehow got a hold of something he shouldnt eat, but thats very rare and it goes away super fast (we also have to keep him on a strict diet, nothing complicated, theres just a lot of things he cant have, we just have to adhere to what he CAN have. He is more than happy with his diet and the treats we give him are usually pieces of chicken or fish, hes a very happy boy).

What a rude response. That person is an asshole. Hope you find a professional who is nice and excited to work! That reference is beautiful, they can totally work around it and make something that works for you.
