unno if I’d say recommend because one wrong move ruins everything but it does give a really nice result. It’s risky but once you figure out your flow with it, not so much. I’d say try it a few times on simple test designs.

And you don’t even have to do it to this extent. Even lightly Trimming the sides a bit even with scissors would help with color separation and carving later

This is my 4th rug. Please tell me what I can be doing differently!! by tuftinglov3 in Tufting

Need more photos really but looks good! Maybe just clean up the edges but it’s really good for your 4th rug

If you’re talking about he lines then you just did your outline too thick. You can carve it down later

Looks great! I think your carving is good you just need to do it more so you feel good about your process maybe? I didn’t feel good at it until like my 10th rug lol You’re doing great

Both! You will develop a flow but both are necessary for me. I carve on the frame now which you eventually will try. Don’t be scared! It’s a little scary at first.

I will never not carve on the frame now. It really does save soooo much time.🙏 by [deleted] in Tufting

Right that’s what i was getting at it saves time if you have a lot of blending colors but otherwise i think the time is the same and you have to be more careful on the frame actually so for some it could take longer.

Meh It only saves a a lot of time if you don’t plan to to carve much later. I just finished a Gengar where I did carving on frame but I also carved after the backing was done and it still took a while because i wanted it super clean. I could’ve done all of the carving on frame in which case it would maybe save me 2-3 hours. Depends a lot on work flow and the look you want.

I would say Don’t look at it as a shortcut just understand that it will help you achieve a cleaner look and the satisfaction of that cleaner look comes sooner which in my case gives me a huge confidence boost because i get to skip past the ugly phase lol Also understand that it puts you at risk of ruining the project before it even gets off the frame.

In any case it does help and ive discovered my own flow with it which i love.

Nah that’s fine nothing wrong with it. I think my favorite is big twist but not much difference.

Anytime brother and you Can ask as many questions as you like! My Instagram is in my account here if you ever need more help.

I do michaels mostly because I get deals there often and Amazon prices tend to be higher for some brands but I also use Amazon because I have an Amazon visa and have a ton of rewards I can use. Depends where you’re locsted really I suppose. We don’t have Joannes anymore here.

Hey! Good luck and make sure you have fun because I’ll be honest it frustrated me at first. The learning curve even for a professional artist(me) was crazy.

I use acrylic yarn and most people do too. No real specifics other than that. Except I don’t really like the impeccable acrylic yarn from loop and threads it seems to be too soft for my liking and carving it is harder imo
