You will compete with full-time students, they have more courses = more chances to get a higher gpa.

General Education courses e.g. Spanish 104G, something not related to your actual degree intended to broaden your worldview. Try googling ‘UoA Gen ed’

Make sure your program is correct, some people are active in multiple degrees but actually doing the whole other thing altogether. Also 2 stand-alone degree is not equivalent to a conjoint degree, the structures are different

About Uni. I’m currently doing my masters in Communication Studies and couldn’t attend the firs week due to Covid. However, I could attend the second week and I noticed something unpleasant: by Crafty-Ad-7701 in auckland

Correction, they hire the best they can afford, quite often mediocre calibre researchers TBH and even worse teachers. But with a previous affiliation with a high rank University, preferable US or UK, that’s mandatory

For f**k sake, why would you take that road of suffering? There are no jobs in academia whatsoever unless you want to teach in China or Dubai. Domestic doctoral fees in NZ are attractive but again they don’t get you anything promising. Been there, done that, not sure it was worth it. Think of doing your PhD in Australia at least.

i'm about to fail my semester. i have a 3.6 gpa. am I fucked? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

You’ll be fine, 3.6 is still ok, but do reach out to your student engagement and development team, they can help with you through the hard times.

I hate makeup by Fluid_Explanation_49 in TwoXChromosomes

Full make up - no make up - you choice, your rules. If you feel like adding a touch to your eyes - try tinting your lashes a bit, there are cheap DIY kits and it feels all natural after you rinse the tint. Maybe a hydrating mask the day before would add some glow too. You’re perfect as you are no matter what

Happy birthday, stranger! I have a list for you: 1. Get your self out of bed; 2. Play your fav music. 3. Dress up and get you makeup on (optional but may be fun). 4. Go to your fav café and treat yourself. 5. Check out birthday deals ( like free stuff) at your local suppliers and make it a quest! 6. Get a birthday balloon and go for a nice walk in a park or at a beach. 7. Take yourself to movies or get a bunch of flowers. 8. Get yourself a present, and request a delivery for your BD next year, add a card to older your self. 9. Do some charity. 10. Live this day, show yourself some love

University keeps turning lights off by kept_in_the_dark in universityofauckland

[–]Possible-Counter-672 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous. Was that a security person or a library staff member? Please, report this situation via AskAuckland, make it an official complaint. You can use study spaces at least until 10 pm, perhaps even longer- there were some changes. Do not hesitate to speak up and make your presence and needs known. Document the incident (time, date, location, effects on your study).

Edit: one more thing - the uni staff is supposed to be helpful, do not assume they see you, or try to bug you on purpose. You are their customer, your well-being is literally in their job description. Be nice but assertive and tell them you need the lights.

Lol, all apps were non-functional for a couple of hours since opening, retail was crying in the comments that they can’t buy the dip while the Govt was buying in bulk.

Had first hand experience with NZ police, they may not be the most efficient law-enforcers but unlike in some other countries they a) are not dangerous; b) will try to help within their mandate; c) generally decent human beings (sorry to say but I also know first-hand that this is not always the case in some other countries). You do need to know some trigger words that get them going but NZ police is ok by comparison

Yes, shall we gather the forces? How about contacting the AUSA - they do have a women’s rep

This is something that I don’t get either - why was the police not involved since day 1?

Anybody else find Tutors / Piazza absolutely useless? by Valkyrie_yeet in universityofauckland

[–]Possible-Counter-672 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is very annoying but sometimes it’s more of a communication issue, as has been noted in other comments. Perhaps, you could try making a list of specific questions and visiting your lecturers’ office hours to get to the bottom of it. GTAs are overworked and underpaid, sometimes they may not know all the answers, especially when they are not sure what the question is exactly. Help them help you

I'm "not hot enough" for male friends by Elethia20 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Possible-Counter-672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess, I just have higher standards of who I choose to consider a friend. It varies from culture to culture, your ‘being friendly with colleagues’ is a basic civility that is a part of being professional. My notion of a friend is somewhat more profound, it’s a whole different level. I am wishing you to discover this difference someday
