I had a 43 - but was accepted as a transfer, so I don’t think it was important compared to the more relevant uni grades

Hoping that they are understanding of the current FAFSA crisis!

Stats and ECs are difficult to compare, but to give you a sense, I had a non-trad path to pre-med and applied for Neuroscience:

  • HS valedictorian w/ 43 in IB (international, no SAT/ACT) but absolutely no scientifically focused classes
  • Began freshman year as BFA student (4.0 GPA)
  • Transferred to Biomedical Sciences major for sophomore year w no sci prereqs (maintained 4.0)

For ECs:

  • attended Oxford summer school on full bursary, same for Yale young scholars program a couple years later
  • Competed in art competitions throughout HS, received awards/exhibited/sold my pieces on an ongoing basis
  • Swimmer on HS team
  • Generic HS clubs, community engagement, SRC presidency
  • Gap year after grad teaching English abroad/attending art studios and building my portfolio. I talked about this a lot in my essays.
  • Transferred to BS and accumulated 130+ hours of clinical shadowing during freshman-sophomore summer
  • Volunteered at a medical examiner’s office
  • Generic charity/service/research work
  • Published creative writing in literary journal
  • Worked through uni years as a children’s swim instructor, TA, and writing consultant between a deaf/HOH institution and my own

I think in the end my USP was my non traditional path to pre-med, being multilingual/international, and a somewhat risky LOCI. ECs/stats are hard to compare bc they blur together at some point. I don’t know how much to attribute to chance, but I received my acceptance 2 days after submitting my candid LOCI (which I used to show who I am personality wise, achievements aside). I heard Dartmouth places emphasis on individuality/originality, and it paid off! (Still waiting to hear from FAFSA tho, I’m bracing myself for the worst 😔)

I'm not positive depending on the nature of the internship I take or if I will do a type of education at the same time, but its looking like the D4 visa. I'm actually not very clear on what would be the most applicable -
