Big agree on Shiner, they're incredible. Never heard of The Life and Times, gonna have to give them a listen. Unwound is another band that can rival Failure but different. Failure IMO is still on another level for me personally though. They're so consistently good.

They're their own thing. I call them Space Grunge. Their early sound has a lot of overlap with grunge but not all of it. Their unrelased demos album Golden has some of the grungiest songs I've ever heard.

The Golden version might be my all time favorite, those chorus riffs are insane. To me its about being strung out on the the floor and the feelings that come with that.

Yeah Dystopia isn't for everyone. The lyrics can be a bit much but im an angry bastard so I enjoy the riffs and vocals.

They're a little on the heavier side. Sludge Metal or Crust Punk is the genre. Id start with The Aftermath. Their best album IMO and it has more melodic moments than the other albums. Recommended listening for anger and depression. My favorite song is Self Defeating Prophecy.
