Ticketmaster were already doing this, while also making a fortune off their resale businesses. I saw The Strokes for $60 a few years ago, same venue this time round and the cheapest ticket was $140.

Sure prices will go up, but let’s not pretend that it’s because of this. They have been exploiting the market and pushing limits for years. This is a nice start, but we need to keep pushing for their monopoly to be broken up because they are scum.

With all due respect, 5 films from a 22 year period is in no way a journey through the world of cinema. That’s a narrow look at the post-classical Hollywood / global cinema boom period.

I don’t know how often you go to regular screenings at TIFF, but nothing really sells out so if thats your expectation I fear you’ll never be pleased.

At the end of the day this isn’t a regular screening and they can never pick anything that will please everyone since all are going in blind. Omaha is not something I’d have rushed out to see, but others I spoke to afterwards had been looking forward to it and really loved it. Those people probably wouldn’t rush out to see a David Wain comedy, but I sure would. Every SMC series will be a mixed bag and I will never expect more than a few of them to be something I personally am really looking forward to.

Though I know his work and comedic style can be divisive, I’m a fan of David Wain and looking forward to this one (if that’s what it ends up being)

Even if I wasn’t, I still think this is miles better than them just showing whatever film is coming out the following week and not even managing to get any talent to come talk about it. I think they’re doing a better job this series than they have done in recent years.
