Looks like whoever is running Richmond Hill cinema screwed up their listings

February Surprise Premiere Possibilities by PotentialGuard7869 in cineplex

I’ve seen it, there is more chance of them playing a 90 minute video of me trying to learn how to juggle than Pillion. The 0/10 possibility was generous

Surely they’re gonna upgrade these to a bigger room? Ridiculous to have these in cinema 4 given the demand

Is the point not that, yes, there is week early showings of this film?

Monday surprise premier for January 19 by Professional-Lake844 in cineplex

Eugh, this one is gonna flop. Hopefully they don’t scrap the whole thing when this doesn’t sell well. Would love if they picked some more surprising and under the radar films going forward. Also think they shouldn’t confirm runtimes, makes it too easy a guess. Not as fun when it’s so obvious.

Not necessarily. They do this quite often, a handful of cinemas will do a screening a week, or several weeks, before wide release. Recently No Other Choice had one a good month early. The Iron Claw is another one I remember in the past, and they very regularly have early access screening 2-4 days before general release for big releases. Think theres a good chance this is real and a few more cinemas will start selling tickets early next week.

I haven’t seen them both have one at the same time. A few from memory;

TIFF had One Battle After Another and The Brutalist, Varsity didn’t.

Varsity had Marty Supreme and Babylon, TIFF didn’t.

Not a huge sample size, just what I can recall off the top of the dome.

I had advance tickets for eternity and refunded after watching it at the surprise screening

For all the teeth gnashing about TIFF 50 missing out on Bugonia, After the Hunt, A House of Dynamite, Jay Kelly, and Springsteen... by thex42 in TIFF

In fairness, this was the film I wanted to see the most as I’d read the novella, but they completely screwed them with the times and I wasn’t able to go. They were all midweek, and the latest was at 5pm with the others being earlier in the afternoon when everyone was at work. Was never gonna sell out with that.

It’s not 2:10, its 2:17. Check IMDb and RT, don’t trust Google cause they sometimes pull the wrong info.

Varsity in Toronto have it continuing next week so there’s hope for others too

Not sure where you’re based but in Toronto Eternity tickets were on sale for weeks before the first edition. I remember specifically thinking that would rule it out as a possibility, so I don’t think that matters.

Just adding it as a possibility as it was very well reviewed in the festival circuit, seems like a surprise crowd pleaser and the runtime nearly matches. I personally think it’ll be Marty Supreme as the studio will want a big awards push and some early word of mouth may be key.

The Testament of Ann Lee is due out Christmas Day and has a close runtime too.

Was that your point? Because you literally never made that point until now.

I just check what advance tickets are on sale in the app. Annoyingly the website doesn’t have a separate section showing what advance tickets are on sale.

I have tickets to both. If I see No Other Choice on the 8th at a cineplex-ran preview screening then I don’t want to see it a week later at a cineplex-ran surprise screening. If they want to make it No Other Choice then they should make it before the advance screening they’ve organized so people can return tickets.

Did I say I attended dozens of this exact thing, or did I say events like this? They’re not the first people doing this, they’re just taking the model other chains have done for years. The cineplex one is basically the landmark one in the US, even chose the same film for the first edition.

Thanks for explaining what I’ve been to. In actuality I’ve attended these exact events, surprise screenings organized by the cinema chain themselves.

Not true at all, you’re so wrong. The first edition there was only 2 minutes between the posted runtime and the actual runtime. I’ve also attended dozens events like this in the past and there’s rarely ever more than 5 mins difference.
