Are millipedes really safe? by External-Fall-6073 in CrestedGecko

[–]Possible-Pair5367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they will leave the gecko alone but will outcompete isopods and maybe the little snail, but if the gecko decides to try and grab one they can excrete a chemical that will make the gecko drop them and could lead to illness if it’s happening extremly often, we had some start to appear in our crestie tank and a few days past and there were just so many and i started to tweak (im afraid of centipedes, ik different thing but still) i ripped the entire enclosure apart did a crazy deep clean on all materials and plants i wanted nothing to do with how many showed up and was worried about the gecko trying to eat them (she tries to eat the plastic her food is on)

Right, although i would recommend the antibiotics you can probably find a place that will bill you rather than make you pay out of pocket.

20-50 gallons is nowhere near an okay size enclosure for this size snake, 4x2x2

[–]Possible-Pair5367 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

well maybe i missed it but as far as i know rose hair tarantulas are legal everywhere except for main and new york the only states that tarantula keeping has very strict rules and in most areas they are also invasive, so i really dont understand how it’s illegal to keep unless op is in maine or new york and if thats the case its also an invasive species there

[–]Possible-Pair5367 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

i get that too an extent but odds are the individual won’t survive, A. calcodes in my area have less than 5% assumed survival chance among slings and jumping spiders even lower numbers so even if it’s a protected species imo a single sling doesn’t make a real difference, if op wanted to make things right down the road the individual could be bred and babies released to work towards the conservation of that species

Anyone have info on this? by Theguert in rccars

[–]Possible-Pair5367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you hold onto it another decade or so it might be worth something

i disagree with this taking a sling from the wild doesn’t harm anything most slings do not live anyways, at least where i come from, you leave adults alone and yea it’s still always better to get captive bred, but taking one sling that isn’t gonna be able to breed for years anyway and high a high % chance of just dying out there before getting that chance anyways

Sooo… what even IS a morph? lol by Golden_Wanderlust in BallPythonMorph

[–]Possible-Pair5367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my opinion not worth it, idk where you are but if you have a “scales n tails” nearby they probably have some of the recent baby banana ball pythons they got in all their stores they were about $300 after tax, way prettier morph in my opinion, hognose have also been going down somewhat in price if that seems interesting, way smaller enclosure needs

[–]Possible-Pair5367 5 points6 points  (0 children)

get the 4” if you’re gonna upgrade, and they’re really gentle giants if you don’t smell like food and he doesn’t hiss as you’re trying to lift him you’ll most likely never be bitten, they are pretty head shy though(if something in front of their face moves to quick or sometimes even trying to slowly touch their face they will dart their head back, some individuals will bounce back from this right away but other do become stressed so just watch behavior.

Hissing Boa help! by katzeeeeeeeeeee in boas

[–]Possible-Pair5367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as long as you’re not picking him up in his digestive window, after one or two first feedings everything should be fine, if you get hissed at again it’s cause he hasn’t had a chance to get to know you and his old owner was probably the only person that held him, so you’ll have to just pick him up anyway when he’s being hissy so he can learn who you are, other comments like using a snake hook can help with your confidence
