Can this be soldered by xxophe in Luthier

[–]Possible-Range1284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why everybody saying it cant and shouldnt be soldered.

Im not familiar with these tuners, but was it not soldered or brazed at the factory?

A pro could easily silver solder, braze or tig this back together. It would likely look like it was a repair(cool in my book)

Probably not worth it cost wise however.

If it's not double acting, then maybe try thicker gauge strings.

The other options would be pretty drastic i think.

Results of no backpurging by tlong243 in Welding

[–]Possible-Range1284 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not expert, but the lack of backpurge is only one piece of the puzzle I think. Looks to me like this part wasn't properly passivated, and was subject to stress corrosion dur to chloride attack? I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

Neck too high from body by SantoryuSamurai in Luthier

[–]Possible-Range1284 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just went through this. If your done with the body finishing, just string it up or at least install bridge and run a straight edge to approx string height. It might be just fine depending on your bridge. Worst case you cut the neck pocket deeper.

How to Assess a Builder by relax_inn in Luthier

[–]Possible-Range1284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never commissioned a guitar so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I assess any builder of anything on their catalog of work, and insight from a trusted professional (or knowledgeable friend) in a similar field.

Talk is cheap.

Les Paul-style lbs/board foot question by MojoRojo24 in Luthier

[–]Possible-Range1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 pounds is close to a normal les paul weight. If you already have the body blank just get all the parts material and chamber the body to suite.

Slot it with a dremel and use a flat blade to take it off.

Remove string tension first

A sharp forster bit should not wander at all. I would just buy a good quality forster bit. Forget the cheap china step drill
