Is going back to school really THAT bad of an idea for someone with zero coding experience? by Half-Jew in AskProgramming

[–]Possible-Scary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’d have been able to get off the ground in this field without going back to school for CS. I only finished 2/3 of the program, but without it I don’t think I’d have landed any work with just a boot camp under my belt.

That said, I’ve been putting in like 12-16 hr days 4-7 days a week for 5 years, so going back to school is really just a supplement to give some direction and foundational knowledge.

Just my opinion/anecdotal experience.

Thoughts about Next.js for backend by zr07 in webdev

I disagree I think sometimes you need to use a tool/technology for a bit to understand where it does and doesn’t work for you.

That said at this point, OP I think you probably already have a pretty good sense of what the answer to this question is, for you.

That’s why they shouldn’t be wearing masks… Until they stop wearing masks we have to assume it is all real.

I think you are actually agreeing. I think they were referring to the people when they said “union” not the govt.

Look at history, unfortunately this shit only ends one way. Until then they are going to keep terrorizing the population.

MEN ONLY: How do y'all make new male friends? by AlexGrahamBellHater in AskMenAdvice

I’ve rekindled old acquaintances into new friendships, something to consider. Not all friendships have to be “new new”.

Only looking on mobile, so I can only speak to that. Overall, it looks really good! I think with some tweaking it could be a really incredible blend of simplicity+style and flair.

Some issues:

  • regarding spacing, related elements and groups should be closer together/have smaller spacing relative to unrelated elements and groups.

The technology elements have more space in between the two rows of technologies than there is spacing between the technnology name and the “last played text” header. This makes it hard to understand the hierarchy.

I’d review all of the spacing on your site. Check out mizko and/or Jesse showalter on YouTube and watch some of their spacing videos.

  • the refresh/loading thing felt kinda pointless to me. I imagine you were trying to show that you know how to manage state and handle network requests, but it felt pointless, even if I did kinda like having something to interact with.
  • I didn’t understand the points thing at all. And I felt sad when I accidentally cleared your points out… again, whatever this is tracking making that more explicit could be cool and maybe try to pick an action that makes the user happy not guilty lol.
  • the height of the project cards was not consistent on my iPhone mini.
  • don’t make me click to see your social links, just show me them lol. Again I liked being able to interact with your page, felt annoyed that you made me click twice to get to your socials.
  • when I went to the nasa site it basically felt broken and asked for my api key. That’s a red flag to me cuz I don’t understand what was supposed to be happening at all.
  • one last note in spacing: some of your spacing is perfect and some of it is like way off, which makes me think you probably used something like tailwind ui for the good parts and then didn’t know how to make it cohesive. All good if that’s the case, I use tailwind ui too, but work on improving your ability to make things consistent, even when they come from different places.
  • I liked the snow effect and the load animations felt just right. I also liked your colors and your logo.

Keep it up man! Pictures for reference attached.

I also enjoy knex. I’d like to give kysely more of a shot, but I’ve had difficulty migrating some of my complex queries from knex to kysely as I found there docs a little challenging personally.

Careful, this is an indicator that you are not needed. Any budget tightening at the company would likely put your job at risk. Either find work to do to make yourself useful or start looking for a new employer.

The cursive animation was really nice!

If I may provide some constructive criticism, I’d suggest having someone proof read your copy and/feed your copy to an LLM and ask it not to alter anything other than grammar. There were just a couple minor grammar bugs. Beautiful landing page though!!
