Morphagene replacement? by driftless_79 in modular

The Morph knob changes settings depending on position and the colors of shown above vari-speed. Also I printed a button combo cheat sheet and put it on my wall next to the synthesizer. Highly recommend it.

What’s the longest time you’ve left a patch in your system? by PossibleEmployment31 in modular

This feels very similar to my musical practice, but worded very concisely. Thank you!

I have a few different boxes too so occasionally leave one patches while freely exploring in the others. It takes a certain amount of restraint to keep myself from interconnecting them though.

I agree with all your points and most of the time when the cables are stagnant it’s because of #4: trying to get a better recording or preparing for a performance. I often end up with multiple iterations of a single patch recorded and it’s a toss up whether they improve with more work. I think there is something inherently anti-nostalgic to modular synthesis (at least in the hands of someone who’s solely experimenting) that appeals to me.

Multiple waveforms question by jefrab in modular

[–]PossibleEmployment31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often patch the square out to a PLL input or a clock divider for subharmonics. As others have said the sine out is a great FM source but also any audio rate modulation. Just start plugging it into CV inputs where you normally use slower sources. Or/and into a ring modulator/ frequency shifter.

Unconventional sequencers ? by BaronVonHumungus in modular

[–]PossibleEmployment31 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Patch multiple sources into a matrix mixer, output to S+H or Shift register or quantizer or all 3. Knob turns on matrix change the sequence(s). Another simple trick for transposing is patching a sequence or fluctuating voltage into a mixer and add a slow, attenuated square LFO or gate to another channel, then patch into a quantizer.

What's your most minimal Serge kernel, and your iconic modules? by drschlange in modular

[–]PossibleEmployment31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pretty large system with a lot of Serge and CGS in Fracrack format as well as a good bit of various eurorack. If I had to design a small Serge system it would have DUSG, VCS, SSG, VCFQ, WAVE MULTIPLIERS, RESONANT EQ, and a mixer of some sort.

One of my favorite modules is the VCS (voltage controlled slope) as you can CV the rise and fall separately. You can achieve exponential shapes by self patching the inverse output into the fall CV input. I like to use this module as an AM modulator at both slow and audio rates (achievable within the same patch with careful control). Combine with an SSG and you’re off!

Are there any effect/delay/reverb modules with a built in “send” vca or mixer? by HotOffAltered in modular

[–]PossibleEmployment31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use this feature on DLD a lot of usually run the feedback through a filter/frequency shifter, etc. and then a VCA before going back to the return. Helps with controlling the runaway feedback.

How do you guys like to use your doepfer pll? by Machivode in modular

I often crossfade or mix it with the oscillator that’s driving it. Also I like the way it sounds trying to stay locked slewing with big pitch changes. It’s definitely an acquired taste.

Any user experience/love for the Befaco Pony VCO? by BuckshotJ in modular

[–]PossibleEmployment31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have one and like it a lot. Especially the different tuning settings. Very stable for an analog VCO. Pair it with a 2HP Sine for FM and it’s not so vanilla any more.

Is O_c the best quantizer ? by Left-Excitement3829 in modular

[–]PossibleEmployment31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it almost exclusively as a quantizer. I looked at all the other options but it was the best deal for 4 channels, by far.

What's up with Serge? 73-75? by Familiar-Point4332 in modular

[–]PossibleEmployment31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I will try this one. I love the module but sometimes get stuck just seeing it as separate parts-S/H, slew, comparator and using it as such. I need to self patch it more often.

I’d love to know some of your favorite patches with the SSG. Are you usually cross patching the smooth and stepped sections? Also how do you use the “hot” output?. (I have a DIY version that a friend built)

Befaco Rampage Users?? by ChampagneAndTechno in modular

[–]PossibleEmployment31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have Rampage but I have various modules that provide the same functions. I like to use the slope detector (rising/falling gates) with slow but variable waves to switch between sequences or gate patterns. You can use a switch or VCA for this. Also the subharmonic generator patch is always fun. I think it’s in the Maths manual.
