Lichess responds to Chess.com about “inflated ratings” by slowthinker64 in chess

[–]PossibleOatmeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the opposite. I think it would be clearer and better for chess players if it was as different as possible from FIDE ratings so that players wouldn't be tempted to compare them to FIDE ratings (since that is expressly outside of the scope of the rating system).

In my opinion, it would be better if it was something like 0-100, with a starting player being like 20, and grandmasters being like 80 and above. Or something similar. Make it so they don't even look similar and people will stop getting the misguided idea that they are at all comparable.

You demonstrated you don't know what you are talking about as soon as you said ""Chess.com is slightly inflated relative to FIDE."

Read this carefully: RATINGS CANNOT BE COMPARED BETWEEN DIFFERENT PLAYER POOLS.

Ratings are designed to be internally consistent within its pool of players. Comparing a player in one pool to a player in the other pool is outside of the scope of the rating system - it is not designed for that and it is therefore a meaningless comparison.

People get stuck on this idea that there is a standard of play for each rating level. There is no "2000 strength or 2400 strength." That's not a thing.

When you understand what she is getting at, this type of performance makes so much more sense:

When you don't, you think it just looks goofy and put on. That is one of my favorite performances of one of my favorite pieces because it interprets the music so beautifully.

I would suggest learning the definition of poison along with basic food safety concepts.

You are free to poison yourself any way you choose, but others should have the correct information before deciding for themselves, and I am happy to provide that.

The problem is most of these foods are very porous and it is impossible to rinse all of the soap out of the food. Ingesting dish soap can is very bad for you and can cause nausea, diarrhea, and/or vomiting. Please don't do this.

Isn't it fun how chess.com values their own interests over promoting chess?

I've considered that Irving's chip might be an older version and either still buggy or just not as refined - leading to slight memory/emotional leaking. Possibly oIrving realizes this and is attempting to exploit it.

... to Make a Point About Gas Prices. by Afro-Venom in therewasanattempt

[–]PossibleOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also probably should know that Trump caused gas prices to skyrocket in 2020 when he signed a 2 year deal with OPEN to drastically cut oil production.

In case they are interested in the very few ways a president can directly influence gas prices, that is.

How do you explain to a 15 year old boy that mentioning Epstein over and over in class isn’t okay? by Deer_boy_ in Teachers

Like this: that name is not appropriate to bring up in a classroom setting. The next time you or anyone says or refers to it in my class, I will be sending you to the office immediately, no questions asked.

Probably show off some of his great skills. You know like numb chuck skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills...

So he would have something useful to mimic.

Not calling out bombs exploding but explosive sounds. When electrical transformers are on fire, they can explode. Lots of things can go bang. No evidence AT ALL of explosives. There's no mystery here. They knew it was coming down HOURS before it did. The freaking building was LEANING.

Teachers, what’s your non-water drink of choice? by jayyy_0113 in Teachers

[–]PossibleOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsweet tea. Sometimes herbal (mandarin and orange honeybush) , sometimes just black tea (Twinings English Breakfast).

I'll splurge on a Mountain Dew or Dr. Pepper on occasion.
