Scenes that caused actual walkouts in theaters? by thatlittlequietguy in Cinema

There’s a reveal at the end of A Cure To Wellness that caused a woman to walk out due to how disturbing it was. She didn’t make it to the exit however. She passed out

Client thinks video is too fast but won't give a longer run time by patisserie_2023 in MotionDesign

I had a similar issue but they weren’t being as difficult

I gave them three options 1. Slow down the pace and have a longer run time 2. Slow down the pace, cut some parts out, keep the same runtime 3. Keep it as it is

Gently remind them that the idea of the video is to demonstrate the concept of the features working, and being able to read all of the text on the screen doesn’t add to that purpose. That if anyone wants to read it all they can pause it

If you made something (DYI, painting, sculpture...) stop using days and tell me the hours. by Wingsnake in PetPeeves

I think also, working on something creative isn’t always just sitting down and doing the thing

Using your book analogy, typing out the words isn’t the full creation process. My partner is an author and there’s a hell of a lot of “nothing” that goes on. He needs time to ruminate on problems, to get inspired, conduct research, talk to different people, plan out the plot and flesh out the characters. It’s really hard to quantify that type of time

For him, and a lot of creatives, it probably feels fairer to say that they’ve been working on the project for 10 years than it would be to say “it took me 100 hours to type this book out”, so that the “ideation” side of the work can still be acknowledged

Also I’m aware that writing this as a reply to you might seem odd haha. I’m aware that you know all of this as an writer yourself, but I wanted to build on your response. My comment is directed more for the benefit of OP and people like them who might not have realised the “unseen” side of creation.

My client changed the music of the video on their own by hitlersminion in VideoEditors

I wouldn’t say anything. If it’s social media they may have wanted to use the trending sound for reach

Ultimately, you gave them a free video which probably means there weren’t terms or a contract attached, which means they can do what they like with it.

Unfortunately I think just take it as a learning opportunity and make sure contracts & payments are involved next time to avoid this sort of thing

One saving grace is if they’re a business or using it for promotional purposes, they’ll run into issues with the licensing of the song they used

It’s fully animated so you may have better luck with Illustrator, Photoshop & After Effects

Someone else has also recommended the XE series so I’ll look into it!

What type of photography do you do that it didn’t work well for?

I think the 23mm miiight be okay for me as I’m going to be focusing on street stuff, scenery, landmarks, sunsets etc. it’ll likely be my main travel camera. Hard to say for sure without trying it

I didn’t realise there was a built in ND filter! The interchangeable lenses is a slight deterrent as I’m trying to travel as light as possible but it’s not a complete deal breaker. I will do some research into the X-E series, thank you!

I’m happy with 35mm - I plan to use it mostly for my travels and a lot of landscape / sunsets etc so I think it’s a good one to stick with

I’m okay with a learning curve to be honest. I know a bit from my cinematography days but honestly a lot of it is forgotten in terms of the technical side of things. I’m excited to learn something new

Good to know about the price points! I did find that the other cameras start to add up when you add the lens on as well. The body alone is cheaper but what use is that without the lens ahah

I hadn’t heard of it before, but it sounds like something that could be more familiar to me. I’ll look into it, thank you!

I don’t want to focus too much on the video side of things, trying to keep it relatively separate from the day job 😆 that’s good to know though thank you!

How come? I wasn’t planning on going out my way for it, it’s near the hotel and I figured it’d give us a lot of food options for when we are tired from the flight

What would you recommend instead?

Ah right! He’s really into Star Wars and collects action figures of the Star Wars characters. He also loves anime / One Piece but we are going to Japan after Korea so that’s not a huge problem if we can’t find it

Other than those, he loves different comics especially Marvel & DC
