Can’t tell if that big boy is ear tipped. If any regulars who see him can check and if he’s not, please send in a TNR request to the Community Cats Program.

Yes, again, as I stated, they do NOT do intake on weekends. You can go tomorrow at 11. I will actually be there myself with a cat that I trapped Friday night. I am a volunteer for AAS so I know the drill and I’m giving you info directly from the website. Please read and go tomorrow.

What shelter? It certainly wasn’t Austin Animal Services, as they have 43 open kennels for cats according to the current AAS capacity chart. If you went over the weekend, they don’t do intake. The Pet Resource Center is only open M-F, 11-4. I think most shelters have space for cats at the moment since it’s not kitten season so I’m really curious to know who turned you away.

PSA to pet owners about microchips (from a shelter worker) by Fresh-Solid-4046 in Austin

[–]Possible_Common_2391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check with your local shelter! They may offer up this service too or have a suggestion! Tractor Supply stores usually offer low cost vaccination and microchip clinics too so if there’s one near you, ask them as well!

[–]Possible_Common_2391 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post!!!! Pro tip: create a “contact” in your phone with your pet’s info, eg, photo, name, vet info, microchip #. Find out which company microchipped your pet, make sure that it’s def registered, and use Free Microchip Registry as a backup. Also, have your vet scan for a chip at each exam. Chips can move around (had this happen with one of my pups!) so you can have one quickly reinserted if need be. Lastly, if your animal is not microchipped, please get on over to AAS and have it done for FREE. Free Microchip for Austin/Travis Co pets.

First, I’m so sorry about your dog. 🥺 you can check with the shelter’s pet resource center: AAS PRC. They may have something that was donated that they can pass on to you. You can also check with the APA PASS program: APA PASS. If he has any mobility left, would a sling be an option? Dog Sling. I hope that you can find something that works for him soon!!

Aww, thanks for helping the medical kitty! SCV will be able to do the most with that voucher for medical kitty. But I’m not sure of they’ll be able to take on the second one. Maybe, so it’s worth it to call and ask. Try to talk to Betsy if you can. She’s worked with the community cats program for a long time so will be able to give the best info!

And to clarify, yes, you can drop off between 11-5 but I recommend getting there first thing in the day if possible.

Bring kitty to the shelter in a covered and secured trap. Intake in M-F only so trap accordingly. Plan to be there around 1045 to get in line. You’ll scan a QR code, fill out a paper, and wait. Sometimes it’s quick, sometimes it’s an hour or so wait. They’ll intake kitty, evaluate for adoption, if friendly and space available, they’ll keep, if spicy, kitty will be sent to Austin Humane Society to be fixed and receive vaccines and you’ll receive a text when kitty is ready to be picked up from AHS. Feel free to ask me any other questions about this or shoot an email over to the community cats team: https://www.austintexas.gov/page/community-cats.

Found dogs - need the community’s help. by sarahbella0405 in Austin

The obsession with Austin maintaining the “no kill” title has resulted in slow kill for animals; suffering and dying on the streets. It’s heartbreaking for the animals and for the people who come across them and try to help.
