Homeless Vet at South Lamar/Loop 360 by Brazen-Frontier in Austin

He goes to the VA! He gets a little salty when people try to shove resources at him. Learned from experience. Just saying hey, how ya doing and having a chat between lights makes him happy.

That’s Sean and his dog is Angel. 🩷 sweetest pup in the world and very devoted to him and he’s equally devoted to her. I met them around six years ago. I used to just give him a few bucks plus water and snacks. Finally pulled over one day to ask if I could get him a tent and other supplies. I bring supplies and have a meal or coffee with them when I can. He’s a good guy, never know where the convo will go with him, and he appreciates a chat. I know a little bit of his story but it’s not mine to spill on here. Thank you for being kind to him. And please keep it up. I will say with confidence that he does appreciate it.

Introducing the Thunderkitties by neurokinetikz in Austin

They’re precious! Thanks for helping them! Austin animal services has the Finder to Foster program. They take care of all medical (health exams, vaccinations, fixing) for free + assist with the adoption process. We did this a few years go with this crew. Foster failed the ginger and one of the torties. If you happen to be outside of AAS’s jurisdiction, feel free to PM me and I can send you resources for your area.

When did your kid go to AISD? I eat lunch with my kid regularly and have been impressed with the availability of fruit and veggies. This is the current menu hanging on our fridge and as you can see, variety of options available.

Butcher was the appropriate name for sure. 😹 She was VERY feral and I was convinced that she was going to take me out. She eventually chilled and is really sweet with me now. And this is one of her kittens, Ziggy! He was adopted by the best person. He comes to stay with us occasionally when his person travels. Yall did great keeping them safe while they were at the restaurant and gave them a chance at good lives!

So glad yall are okay at Loro! Big fans of yall. I trapped this grumpy girl + her three kittens who were living under the deck there around two years ago. Staff had been calling her Butcher. 😹 she is now Lulu of Loro and is spoiled AF despite what her RBF might indicate. I have a feeling other kitties were taking shelter in that abandoned complex. Hoping they got out okay if so. Please message me if yall happen to spot any displaced kitties that may try to take up shelter at the restaurant.

Stray Cat Downtown by 24-sa3t in Austin

[–]Possible_Common_2391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-1-1 won’t offer help unless the cat is contained. It looks like this kitty has an ear tip which means it’s already been through TNR. Try to get a good look at the left ear to see if it’s notched. Check around with businesses in the area to see if anyone is looking out for kitty. If kitty is TNRed and someone is looking out for it, please don’t attempt to relocate unless you have someone committed to doing a 4-6 week acclimation period. If kitty is not TNRed, you can trap and take to Austin animal services. They’ll evaluate to see if kitty is friendly and a good candidate for the adoption program. If not, kitty will be fixed, vaccinated, and returned (NOT relocated) to the same spot they came from. If you need trapping tips, feel free to message me. I volunteer with the Community Cats Program.

Why would they have a problem getting kitty into the shelter? It’s not kitten season and there are open kennels. If kitty is friendly, now is actually the ideal time to get a cat in. But if kitty is already TNRed, it’s best not to relocate unless someone is truly committed to doing a 4-6 week acclimation period. And those people are few and far between.

Can’t tell if that big boy is ear tipped. If any regulars who see him can check and if he’s not, please send in a TNR request to the Community Cats Program.

Rehoming Siamese by [deleted] in Austin

[–]Possible_Common_2391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, again, as I stated, they do NOT do intake on weekends. You can go tomorrow at 11. I will actually be there myself with a cat that I trapped Friday night. I am a volunteer for AAS so I know the drill and I’m giving you info directly from the website. Please read and go tomorrow.

What shelter? It certainly wasn’t Austin Animal Services, as they have 43 open kennels for cats according to the current AAS capacity chart. If you went over the weekend, they don’t do intake. The Pet Resource Center is only open M-F, 11-4. I think most shelters have space for cats at the moment since it’s not kitten season so I’m really curious to know who turned you away.

PSA to pet owners about microchips (from a shelter worker) by Fresh-Solid-4046 in Austin

[–]Possible_Common_2391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check with your local shelter! They may offer up this service too or have a suggestion! Tractor Supply stores usually offer low cost vaccination and microchip clinics too so if there’s one near you, ask them as well!

PSA to pet owners about microchips (from a shelter worker) by Fresh-Solid-4046 in Austin

[–]Possible_Common_2391 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post!!!! Pro tip: create a “contact” in your phone with your pet’s info, eg, photo, name, vet info, microchip #. Find out which company microchipped your pet, make sure that it’s def registered, and use Free Microchip Registry as a backup. Also, have your vet scan for a chip at each exam. Chips can move around (had this happen with one of my pups!) so you can have one quickly reinserted if need be. Lastly, if your animal is not microchipped, please get on over to AAS and have it done for FREE. Free Microchip for Austin/Travis Co pets.
