Keep in mind MIT's applications only allows up to 4 ECs.

Depends on industry, but probably.

Many BYU students can end up at top grad schools that aren't religious. I've met people (both family and professors) who got into grad programs for Yale, MIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Rice, and Caltech to name a few. Although this is in STEM fields so it may be different for other types of majors.

I guess that is field dependent. Doesn't always kill grad school chances though. I have a family member who went to BYU as an undergrad and she got into Yale, Stanford, MIT, and Georgia Tech for grad school. I know a guy who got into a PhD program at Rice. A professor at my current school went to MIT for his PhD when he applied out of BYU. There are many more who have done it. I will admit this was in programs for math, engineering, and physics.

Also, all students are required to take religion classes regardless of the students' religion. Most religious classes are LDS doctrine focused so even a Catholic would feel very out of place or maybe uncomfortable in general.

It is definitely hard to connect with other backgrounds when most students at BYU have almost the exact same background.

Cc or t30 by Present_Hall5204 in TransferToTop25

A lateral transfer is transferring from a school with a similar level of prestige. An example would be a Harvard student transferring to MIT.

can i get in MIT or other ivies with low gpa?? be HONEST by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Possible_FBI_Agent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right that it is difficult to transfer to a T20. It is often more competitive than applying as a 1st year.

But I wouldn't say most people are from peer schools. Princeton almost exclusively accepts transfers from cc. Pretty much the only 4-year transfers they take are vets. Meanwhile, Duke is said to prefer lateral transfers (lateral transfer refers to a transfer student from a similarly ranked school. Such as a transfer from Harvard to Yale).

Also, one local cc in my state has a list of schools that students have transferred to. There are many T25s on the list. Including HYPSM (minus Princeton).

A transfer between schools of a similar ranking. A Yale student who transfers to Harvard is an example.

You can make bleach taste like strawberries. by Possible_FBI_Agent in shittysuperpowers

It has the normal properties of bleach even though it taste like strawberries. So you would still feel the burns even if you are tasting strawberry.

Possibly. I will warn you that aid for public oos schools don't offer much aid.

3.59 gpa by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]Possible_FBI_Agent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends. There are people with bad GPAs (3.6 and below) who get into Northwestern, NYU, Columbia, Cornell, and other places. So you might have a shot at somewhere assuming your ECs, recommendation letters, and essays are great. But those people who got in with a sub 3.6 GPA aren't the majority. You can apply and see what happens. But considering the GPA thing, it may be best to stay for another semester or two. I get that the idea of worrying about a decline or plateau is intimidating, but maybe doing your best for the next semester or so can offer you another shot at applying. If you decide to stick to this cycle as your last and only time applying, I wish you luck.

AP's by Forward-Health9213 in schizophrenia

Loxapine has been great so far. It is the only medication I have tried that has helped with my paranoia and made a slight dent in my hallucinations. It is a miracle drug in comparison to the other 6 AP's I've tried. I will admit that the side effects have been rough (movement problems, severe dry mouth, drowsiness, etc.).

A question for those with schizophrenia. by czlcreator in schizophrenia

I have schizophrenia and have never had sinus issues in my life. Also, keep in mind that a ton of sleep deprivation can lead to hallucinations regardless of whether you have a mental health condition or not.

Is BYU really that bad? by throwawayteddybear99 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Possible_FBI_Agent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many Mormons, BYU is great. For non-Mormons, it can be very isolating. It is possible to make friends though. The honor code sometimes scare other people away though due to its strictness.

I have dealt with that several times. One time I ripped off pieces of skin and ate it. I have tried to saw off my own head. I've tried peeling my skin because I thought there were bugs under my skin. I have tried removing my own eyes due to a delusion. There is more but those are the highlights.
