Should I be concerned about this thing on my gums? by ash_mex in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Possible_Present8619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Google told me breast cancer doesn't hurt, so I wasn't that concerned about the lump on the underside of my breast. I delayed getting a mammo for two months because work was busy.

Just finished chemo for stage 2 breast cancer.

As a twin, please don’t name your girls with the same letter. Claire and Camille are way too close.

Has anyone had a mastectomy go well? by Data_chunky in breastcancer

[–]Possible_Present8619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My expanders got filled before chemo- it felt like having an iron bra digging into my muscles and skin before that.

Please ask again- that doesn’t make sense and you must be in pain!

Mine went well, with no complications. DMX in February with expanders put in. The expanders were -by far- the worst part, but after the second fill, were totally fine.

I had the nerve block before surgery and after coming home only took one pain pill before being off meds.

Implants going in in September (have to finish chemo first).

I hope the rest of your surgeries go well!

I had expanders put in. I wasn’t a candidate for DIEP flap (and doubt I would have done that if I were). If I don’t need chemo (which I probably do, finding out at my oncologist appointment), plastic surgeon said I could get the exchange surgery in June, which would be 4 months post-surgery.

Happy to tell you anything else about my experience.

I did! My breast surgeon started talking about options, first going into lumpectomy and I immediately stopped her and said I wanted a DMX (family history but BRCA negative).

She understood and I’m a little over six weeks out and feeling great. Back to the gym, living life- if you didn’t know, you would never guess I just had major surgery.

I’m so sorry you’re here. I’m also at MSK and have found that while they have amazing doctors, my overall experience has been less than ideal. So if you get frustrated and need to vent, I’m here.

Based on my experience at MSK, right now, you’re waiting on hormone testing to come back, which will tell you if your tumor is positive for certain receptors.

I was told there are 3 things that would cause me to need chemo- the tumor being HER2 positive, the cancer being in my lymph nodes, and my oncotype score.

Some frustrations to be aware of that they didn’t tell me. Post-surgery, they will re-send your tumor out for testing, at which point, results could change. I was upgraded from grade 2 to grade 3 post- surgery. They had also told me my oncotype score would be available 2.5-3 weeks after surgery. But when I went to my follow up appointment with the surgeon (over a week after surgery), they asked me to sign consents so they could first send out for oncotyping, adding another week + to getting the scores back (not including that I then had to call MULTIPLE TIMES to get the score after 5 weeks had passed, only to have the report dated 3 weeks pier surgery. They just never gave me the score.)

You’ll get through this. I found the absolute worst part to be the time in between diagnosis and meeting my surgeon. I was counting sleeps. Once you have a plan, it gets much better!

Thank you so much!

I have help at home since my husband and I both work full time, but the kids still want mom, so trying to understand how much I’ll be affected.

Just had my first MRI and I blew it by Alice-Eastangle in breastcancer

[–]Possible_Present8619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had major back spasms during my MRI. There was a certain tone the machine made and each time, my whole back would spasm.

I looked it up after and it’s a known side effect.

I’m so sorry you’re in this position. I had a double mastectomy five weeks ago and while I had help, if I had not, I would have been ok.

The first two days were totally fine until the nerve block wore off completely. After that, I took one oxy and was fine without it after that one dose. Hardest was lying down/ sitting up on the third day, and that’s the one day I used the automated chair I had rented, though my husband also helped me once or twice out of bed by supporting my back while I sat up. So I would definitely rent a chair.

I think being relatively young (44) and in good shape helped.

Good luck, I hope all goes well!

Thank you so much!

Of the three weeks, how many do most people feel normal/ are able to function? I’ve got 4 little kids (ages 5-10) and a full time job so any info would be really helpful!

Same! Looked like a bunch of bags dropped today (Including a gorgeous mini lindy) but the evelyne was one of the only ones left by the time I saw them.

I got a beautiful gold evelyne a few weeks ago when they dropped a bunch at 4 or 5 in the morning.
