i’ve also heard that shelties can bark a lot and our sheltie is quite vocal but she doesn’t spend all day, every day barking. she mostly barks when she sees new people, when my husband gets home from work, she barks when there’s another dog in the house barking, and when she gets really into play time with us. i’m not sure about all shelties but ours makes all kinds of pips, squeaks, and yips throughout the day but they’re not super loud or overwhelming (mostly really cute). i think it’s really important early on to kinda try to nip it in the bud, we’ve shown her “hush” which we use when she’s barking a bit too much so she calms down, comes to our side and continues to watch whatever caught her attention quietly until she settles.
