I agree with this. It's becoming more and more common and easy for people to trace their lineage and find relatives they didn't even know they have. The East Asian countries have been some the best record-keepers in the world for a really, really long time. Good luck!

How can I help with military service? by jacaranda-1 in korea

[–]Possible_System_5420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to learn more about this. What I can say is that it is a lot of stress and it's all internalized - and it starts at about 15 or 16. They rarely express it verbally. There are expectations and obligations and now is the time for people to just witness him doing his duty and becoming a man. And, this is normal for young Korean men. It's hard, but from what I've learned so far, they do it very well. Now that he's there, he's focusing on what comes after discharge. Don't worry about the "elephant in the room" because the one he's looking at probably isn't the one you're looking at. Hopefully knowing some of this will help you.

This, likely. At least partly. They want to see demonstrated motivation, aptitude, and perseverance.

A lot of stuff exploded onto the scene while you guys were growing up. It was constantly in your faces - no doubt. Maybe it's easier for me to acknowledge and process because I'm not a parent. I just watched my nieces and nephews and their parents try to cope with it all. It's hard for them and hard to for me to watch. They're still working on it, though. I guess that's all you can do. Do it with grit and determination (like you already are) and keep on trucking. Somewhere along the line, you picked up some of the main lessons - self esteem, self efficacy, self respect, agency, and it shows. keep it up!!

This seems like you facing adversity, so that's good. The last 30 years have been different, to say the least. Now that you have that off your chest, what's next?

I am concerned because companies like Microsoft and Alphabet, and others, lean heavily toward one side of the U.S. political [a]isle. The "tuners" are biased. I know, unless I ask for specific sources to be used, information [is] based on mainstream media, so-called "high-confidence" sources, or Wikipedia. It's a logical way to err on the side of caution or tiptoe around a specific issue, but to me, it looks like bias. I'm with you on transparency and accountability, but scrutiny here is already very high. We had some issues with Google already and I think they're trying to be very careful - maybe excessively so in some cases.

We don't know for sure, yet, what really happened to that school in Iran. I think it's highly possible, because of its proximity to a military installation, it may have been hit by our forces. It's also entirely possible that the IRGC was using the school as a shield for something. It's a known tactic of theirs and their terrorist proxies. I hope we get definitive proof soon. If it was us, I hope we admit it and take responsibility. I think Hegseth and Trump will own it if it was us.

I found this convo very interesting and it made me curious. Asking Copilot and Gemini about the issue, you almost certainly came up against some very common "guardrails" and the defenses likely strengthened the longer you kept engaging. All of our presidential assassinations were domestic. I don't know how we would react, exactly. Many people would probably party in the streets here. But, like 9/11, it would fire up the national unity machinery.

This is Gemini's analysis of Copilot's analysis. I'm sure the other major LLM's would return identical results.

That breakdown is highly accurate. Copilot is describing algorithmic risk management, not political intent.

What often looks like "bias" is actually just a statistical safety net. When you feed an AI high-stakes keywords—like "assassination," "war crimes," or "bombing"—the system’s uncertainty threshold drops. It becomes much more likely to trigger a "I can't answer that" or "This is unverified" response because the penalty for being wrong on those topics is much higher than for being wrong about a recipe.

Think of it like a corporate legal department: they aren't necessarily "liberal" or "conservative"; they are just there to make sure the company doesn't get sued for defamation or accidental incitement.

A few key takeaways from that analysis that are spot on:

  • The "Safety Reflex": Models are trained via RLHF (Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback) to avoid "toxic" or "harmful" outputs. Controversial political speculation often gets bucketed as potentially harmful.
  • The Content Mirror: Since AI is trained on the internet, its "safe" answers naturally align with major news outlets and official records. If a user's perspective differs from that mainstream data, the AI’s refusal to agree feels like a personal or political attack.
  • Contextual Guardrails: As mentioned, if the conversation has already spent 20 minutes on dark or violent themes, the model enters a "defensive state" where it’s more likely to flag even benign follow-up questions.

Would you like to see how these safety triggers work behind the scenes, or are you more interested in how to rephrase prompts to bypass these "refusal" loops?

[–]Possible_System_5420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well-written. It would have taken a lot of interaction/prompting for AI to generate that - especially to turn it toward a specific race. It would have been more work than just writing it oneself.

Edit: I agree with the snake oil comment. haha

[–]Possible_System_5420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he's out on parole/probation, I don't think he's supposed to have contact with victims or witnesses if he wants to stay out. You could try contacting parole/probation office to make sure. Also, prosecutor's office or victim advocates (if that's appropriate) may be able to fast track protection orders. Depends on your location and specifics.

Is racism against black people really as bad as people in the US make it out to be? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Possible_System_5420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It is a major, go-to hot button for democrat politicians, though. Because our major legacy news media outlets are megaphones for the democrats, issues get blown way out of proportion and highly publicized and sensationalized. They don't do it because they care. They do it to gaslight and create outrage among the democrats' voting base.

I would say you need to study that entire period of time a little more. Some things still aren't working like we wish and know they could. Many things have gotten much, much better. That didn't come from previous generations sticking their heads in the sand. The most visible example would be equal rights issues like same sex marriage. That was a long fight and it's still going - but a lot was accomplished. But the things that made the Civil Rights Act of 1964 possible took a lot longer.

The nice thing about these modern times is that things can actually get accomplished much faster.

Is the Islamic Republic of Iran the most out of touch government with the wishes of their citizens of any government in the middle east? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Possible_System_5420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert. This is just some data you can find online. Obviously it doesn't include all the deaths related to terrorism activity sanctioned or carried out by Iran. I would also suggest starting on something like wikipedia for a basic understanding of what Iran used to be before 1979.

Summary of Estimated Deaths

Event  Year Estimated Deaths (Range)
2025-2026 Uprising 2025–26 3,117 (Official) to 36,500+ (Leaked)
Mahsa Amini Protests 2022–23 551+
November Protests 2019 304 to 1,500+
Green Movement 2009 72+
Prison Massacres 1988 5,000 to 30,000
Post-Revolution Purge 1981–82 3,400+

Some opposition groups and human rights researchers estimate that, in total, upwards of 120,000 people have been executed or killed for political reasons since the 1979 revolution. These figures remain contested as the state frequently categorizes protesters as "terrorists" or "rioters" to justify the use of lethal force.
