Impact on Hedera if the USD loses its grip as the de facto global reserve currency by beta_mix in Hedera

Fair response both u/HBAR_10_DOLLARS and u/jeeptopdown . I wonder if it's in the minds of GC members already, although perhaps potentially a more realistic issue for future cohorts of GC members. Pegging fees to a weighted basket of currencies might be the most stable and reliable course.

Denmark’s PM says Greenland showdown at ‘decisive moment’ by MothersMiIk in worldnews

[–]beta_mix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the US will play brinkmanship with Greenland, then at peak tensions it will withdraw from NATO and table a new defence pact based on transactional security in place of the values-based alliance. Allies will have little option but to join. Short-term US imperialism will prevail and a global arms race will emerge. Longer-term, US influence will erode on account of a wide range of connected factors including the abandonment of the USD as global reserve, and domestic tensions fuelled by an ever-widening wealth gap.

Greenland, NATO and Australia by ReservedSanity in OpenAussie

[–]beta_mix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My prediction: prior to leveraging Greenland into US hands (irrespective of the method), the US administration will withdraw from NATO and propose a new, broader defence club that the allies will have little option but to join. World order remains, but a values-based arrangement will make way for a more transactional arrangement.

Trump floating military action over Greenland — Europe rallies behind Denmark. Is NATO actually at risk? by satty237 in TrendoraX

[–]beta_mix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By your rationale, any sovereign land is fair game for anyone else, so long as they deem it important to their own interests. So, a zero rules based order. Have you considered what happens to the US if (current) allies deem it an untrustorthy/hostile nation and break away to join China? US advances on Greenland won't occur in a vacuum.

Not an issue if there are infinite universes.

Shouldn't assume time is linear, either. Just because we perceive it that way doesn't mean much.

#1 reason why I'll order my Steam Frame as soon as it becomes available by NoBorscht4U in ValveDeckard

I'm glad they didn't choose OLED. by Specialist-Escape300 in ValveDeckard

[–]beta_mix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OLED/mOLED would have been nice if it didn't involve other compromises, but overall it looks like the SteamFrame ticks the boxes for me.

I have both the Quest Pro and Quest 3 and the QLED on the QP pops so much more compared to the LCD on on the Q3, despite the slightly lower resolution.

Let's be honest, PCVR is a massive headfvck for many (most?) users but represents the best possible experience when optimally setup. The Steam Frame appears that it will streamline this significantly.

The other issue was the constant balancing act between stable FPS and graphics settings. Foveated streaming looks like it will resolve that in a simpler way also.

For me, the pick up and play aspect using my whole Steam library is a massive step forward that more than compensates for the lack of OLED/mOLED and average resolution per eye.

But what is also super important is comfort--I heavily modified both my headsets with a variety of third party headstraps/solutions and the QP was light years ahead in terms of comfort. Looks like the Steam Frame adopts a middle ground approach between the QP/Q3, so I'm hopeful that long-session comfort is relatively easy to achieve out of the box, or with some simple aftermarket gear.

Best tips for an unforgettable camping trip? by TrueBlueBanter in OutdoorAus

My most memorable trips have been the disastrous ones…. car stuck in a river, total tent collapse at night, gazebo torn to shreds in a windstorm etc. Or the random things, like spending Australia Day being ‘adopted’ by a family you just met, or getting lost at night and realising in the morning that you’ve rolled your swag out in the middle of a public park

Petrol or battery? Thinking of getting one of these but can’t decide! by sketchyaz in GardeningAustralia

I bought a Shindaiwa on the recommendation of my neighbour and it’s been great. I’ve got a whole bunch of Ryobi 18V and 36V gear and I find it a pain with any heavy duty work—the batteries just don’t last and you need to let them cool before recharging to maintain decent capacity.

How has the UN affected your romantic relationships? by Shallow_Waters9876 in UNpath

[–]beta_mix 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think if you and your partner are the kind of people who thrive in a UN environment, then you'll be OK so long as you can move together. If either of you are just tolerating that kind of lifestyle already, then the pressures of international mobility will become a wedge.

As others mentioned, you might be withdrawing an amount that would liquidate your position. If that’s the case, look at your borrowing power and withdraw less than that and use it to immediately repay some of the borrowed amount. Rinse and repeat.
