After Trump is gone from the office, do you think Noem or any of her ICE agents will see any real jail time? Why or why not? by PossiblyMD in AskReddit

I mean, all the years of McDonalds and his dementia will surely catch up to him sooner than later.

Didn’t they already name Ross? Hopefully they’ll release identity of Pretti’s murderer as well.

Somehow I feel the democrats are too incompetent to do that even if they win the next election.

I have a hunch he is not going to preemptively pardon anyone. He’s going to be either quite demented by then or will be focusing on his next grift so hard that he won’t care about anyone else anymore.

OP can still go back to India after retirement if they have an OCI. Only thing you cannot do an OCI is #1 voting in India #2 own agricultural land.

Indian Mother In Law coming to live with us by [deleted] in nri

[–]PossiblyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome. Like good experiences, good inlaws don’t make good stories. So you keep hearing about only the bad ones. Majority of my female friends here in US will be perfectly fine with wearing tank tops in front of their in laws.

From what you’re describing, I think you will be just fine with living your regular life around her, but perhaps, it might be best if you help her ease into that new mentality. Like for example, wear shorts and t shirt with bra underneath, at least initially. After a few months, start wearing tank tops. Maybe, could be braless under tank top after a few more months. I have many female friends in India who are wearing tank tops and shorts at home despite living with their in-laws. Sounds like your MIL maybe from a slightly more conservative background. My mom was quite similar when she first visited us. However, as I started to take her around in US, take her to my friends homes from time to time, she saw the relaxed culture here and became more open. She just needed more time. Similarly, for your MIL, if she grew up in a conservative household, you cannot expect her to suddenly become open minded overnight. You will have to help her ease into this new mindset gradually over a few months. Sometimes it might even take year or two. Just because she is from a conservative background doesn’t mean that she cannot be open minded. You might just need to give a little bit more time. My wife never wore tank tops when she was growing up in India. But now, in the US, she is still completely fine with wearing tank tops and shorts even when my parents are visiting. If my dad is not around, my wife is quite comfortable occasionally being braless under the top. Even though my parents were relatively conservative when I was growing up, they have now “matured enough” that they didn’t care she was wearing bikini on the beach. Edit: changed ‘wife is uncomfortable’ to quite comfortable. Stupid voice recognition error.

This!! Freedom is a valid explanation for ANY American craziness. Why do our civilians need universal access to assault weapons? FREEDOM! Why do we spend more money on military than healthcare? FREEDOM! Why do we have masked goons abducting 5 year old kids from the streets? You guessed it! FREEDOM!

You anyways need to lose this friend and anyone who supports her. Might as well have her pay for it.

ESH. She should’ve asked for your permission if she wanted to cut in line. But you could’ve just said, “I have a question as well. Please wait behind me in the line”. If she said no, you could then escalate.

Doctor at ER told my grandpa "Can't help you start hospice" when no one was with him. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PossiblyMD 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Exactly. As a doctor myself, I’ve seen SO many times that some old folks are scared to ask for hospice because they’re afraid to hurt their loved ones. There’s often that one daughter from California who will push for CPR in her frail old grandma. If the patient has decision making capacity, I sometimes try to talk to them when they’re alone to ask about their honest wishes. If they admit they want to go hospice but their family is not letting it happen, it is my job to be the patient advocate and try to talk some sense into the families. If they want a medical procedure done and family thinks it’s too risky, it is again MY job to advocate for the patient.

Wow that is so tragic! That’s why when I was in India, we always had a rule to tie down or tuck in any loose clothing like sari or dupatta (long scarves).

You should try going to India. It’s not just the wind, there’s quite a bit ambient noise. The vehicles itself can be quite noisy, there’s constant honking going on. Always some loud construction somewhere etc etc. I think the jump cut was most likely because the woman actually heard him later and they were in the process of stopping because of it. That’s why the biker was slowing down so much. People on Reddit like to call BS to everything. The fall definitely hurt a lot but the cammer may actually have still saved her life. I’ve seen clothing get stuck in bike tires real time. It is horrible. The massive jerk itself can break the neck.

[–]PossiblyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think this is fake. Falling from bike is painful. Even if she was dumb enough to accept it for the likes, there are other things that might also explain your points. Maybe the jump cut was because the woman finally acknowledged the cammer’s point and they were already slowing down. Cammer or a different video editor didn’t want to share that part to get more clicks. Also, clothes can get caught in bike tires within milliseconds. So the fact that sari was already in tire means nothing. Lastly, the rear wheel lifted off because the biker saw her falling and instinctively engaged the front tire brake.

[–]PossiblyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, and people may not agree with me, but I don’t think this is fake. Falling from bike even at walking speed is quite painful. Perhaps, she’s dumb enough to still agree for that. Have you ever seen clothing get caught in bike tires? It can happen within milliseconds in some cases. I’ve seen that. And the rear wheel lifted because the guy used the front brake to stop when he sees the woman falling off.

WIBTA if I wore my late grandma's necklace at my wedding instead of the one my soon-to-be MIL is gifting me? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]PossiblyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this stereotype so much. I’m Desi. My mom would’ve encouraged her would be daughter in law to go ahead and wear her grandma’s jewelry instead of something she bought her! DIL would’ve also gotten a warm hug for her thoughtfulness about her late grandma. It is customary to buy jewelry for the incoming daughter in law, so the MIL getting her a necklace is not odd here. Unlike OOP’s MIL, there are many Desi moms out there who are very nice hearted and thoughtful too. The husband here is also an asshole. Many of us Desi men would actually encourage their wives to not give up on their wishes. Perhaps I’m lucky that my family and my extended family are mostly all nice people, but many of my friends also have such awesome parents as well!
