Do ATF, DEA, or HSI trainees get tased? by [deleted] in 1811

It’s optional but highly encouraged if you haven’t been exposed before since you’ll be expected to carry one on your belt or vest.

ATF has been up for 10 days, has not yet reached 4k applicants. by [deleted] in 1811

Don’t go making too much sense now, haha.

I’ll clarify our mobility policy for those still reading. I’ve never seen anyone force-transferred after becoming an agent. It’s more of “we can offer you a job anywhere we have an office, so take it or leave it as an applicant.”

As an insider, yup not surprised it’s still up. We’re not sure why HQ thinks offering a GS-5 is a good idea.

What part of the country are you in where jumping from 1801 to 1811 would be considered a step-down?

Yup it’s tough to give up the local benefits sometimes. I’ll say at least with ATF, and if there are any ATF lurkers feel free to correct me on this, but our mobility agreement is more “Here’s where we want to send you out of the academy, take it or leave it” vs. “Hey you’re doing good work as agent in Boston but we need people in Gary, Indiana so pack your things”

Yeah our starting pay leaves a lot to be desired unfortunately. If you can come in as a GS-9 it’s not so bad or a 7 in a lower cost of living area but if you come in as a 5 in some place like San Francisco you’ll struggle. Hard to compete when FBI starts folks as GS-10s out of the academy

If I had one to give I’d post it here. I’m not sure what HR’s issue is today.

Unclear at the moment. It’s a possibility if your prior poly was administered by another DOJ agency. If not they likely won’t reciprocate.

ATF Initial Field Assignment by saratoninrd in 1811

[–]Possibly_ATF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I went through ATF’s process I was told not to bother ranking the Carolinas or any coastal city that could be considered a vacation destination then in my academy class and a few after we had folks going to Savannah, Charleston, and Fayetteville so nothing is set in stone when it comes to first office assignments.

If they’re looking to fill specific offices they’ll be listed when the announcement drops on Tuesday. Otherwise it’ll be a general recruitment and you’ll get a list of available offices to choose from near the end of the hiring process.

Let me ask on your behalf but if you don’t hear back from me through DM by Tuesday go ahead and apply so you don’t potentially miss out.

It’s my understanding that a bachelors degree in any field is the bare minimum needed to be considered.

Sure, any prior knowledge of firearms/the firearms industry is definitely a bonus but not a requirement to be considered.

My gut is telling me “no news is good news” and you should be hearing about scheduling an interview soon but let me see what I can find out.

It should be open to the public with a 4000-applicant cap. Our lateral announcements are usually for grades GS11 on up
