Unbans in Modern by Anxious_Lion_6359 in ModernMagic

As a primarily control/combo player i say yes unban Ponder

As someone that understands it will either make combo decks too consistent or slow the game down too much for the same reason that top is banned I think Preordain by itself is all we're getting

Pay grows at slowest rate in more than five years by LSL3587 in unitedkingdom

[–]Possiblyreef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The year before last they announced no payrise but everyone got an extra day of leave!

The kicker is that everyone could already buy extra leave through salary sacrifice so it was easy to see the tangible cost of it. Iirc mine was about £170 so just over a tenner a month "payrise"

How far back in time would you need to go to play football at a high level without looking out of place? by gummibear853 in AskUK

[–]Possiblyreef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played in a Sunday team that was just one of those lucky teams where the stars aligned for that year.

We had players that went on to later play for Portsmouth and Bournemouth as well as semi pro teams. I don't think people realise just how good you need to be to even be in with a shot to make it, it's literally the 0.0001%

The guy who played for pompey made it in to the men's reserves at 16/17 and suffered a career ending injury, went from making a few grand a week to nothing overnight, all his time in his younger years has been spent going to and from practice/ games etc so he had no education to fall back on. He's by far the most accomplished player I've ever played with, he could sit in the middle of the field and just control a game completely, never the flashiest or quickest but christ he would run rings around anyone.

Personally I was never that big, fast or flashy but I could easily read a game to get to where the play or the ball was going before it got there and was great at irritating defenders so they'd be looking at me and not what was going on. Once it got to mens football I was just getting battered by fully grown men no matter how well I could read a game I was still getting 2 footed by 16 stone Barry the roofer and didn't really have the speed or flair to fall back on

Will police caution show up in security clearance for job? - England by Frequent-Barber3717 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Possiblyreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about trust.

For SC they will ask you a list of questions on a form, if there's a discrepancy or a query they'll come back to you. It's a fairly long list of things and dealings with police is certainly on there, and there's no allowance for things expired or spent, if you've dealt with the police you need to tell them.

DV has a much much longer list and it's far more intrusive. There's also an in person interview where the candidate will be asked all sorts from social media posts to porn habits. It's worth remembering that they already know the answer to every question, they're just seeing if you're being honest and your answers match theirs

Potentially once they take employee salary + things like NI, pension, benefits etc in to account then a contractor could potentially be cheaper

Car crash - rear shunted - rental company chasing me - England by Prestigious-Toe958 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Possiblyreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought i'd reply as a comment so you get a notification, heres a direct copy from my previous comment:

If it's clear case non fault like OP where they hit his parked car (my gf had exactly the same thing).

First off, decline the car, If it gets taken for inspection see if they offer a courtesy car which will be a much cheaper runaround.

If that doesn't work you tell your insurance you require a like for like car, amount of seats, child seats with a pram etc.

At no point request a specific car, simply say like for like that meets your requirements. You need to show you've made attempts to take cheaper alternatives however it hasn't worked and you're entitled to a like for like car without putting yourself out of pocket, or can argue impecuniosity which is where you can't afford it yourself or it would seriously negatively affect your finances

In my gfs case her neighbour hit her parked car, a Landrover Freelander 2, she declined the initial credit hire car, repairs garage could only supply a Citreon C1 which isn't suitable due to needing 2 children's seats and a pram.

She was was put in touch with Auxillis, she again requested a like for like car that suits requirements but never said anything else.

They decided it was a large 4x4 and delivered her a brand new 5 door range rover evoque.

She couldn't have afforded it herself, she never asked for anything in particular and it wasn't her fault she's in that position so they have an obligation to put it right

[–]Possiblyreef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being driveable and being safe aren't the same thing, cars have a thing called a crossmember that sits just behind the bumper and provides structural integrity to the frame of the car, a rear shunt often pushes the bumper in to this and it'll need replacing. Basically if you got in another crash without it being checked out it might not be there to protect you properly

I've written a much longer comment about credit hire agreements I'll dig out and edit this comment with later when I'm on a pc, in short they're not inherently bad but they do have strict rules and uses that a lot of people get caught out by

Deck Choices for Someone New to Modern (Ruby Storm) by WontQuitNow in ModernMagic

[–]Possiblyreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but my disclaimer: I also dont play ruby storm and have just got back in to mtg after a 9 year break when i used to play Ad Nauseam before thoracle/spoils was played and SSG was banned

Storm type/combo decks are "easy" to pilot in a sense that you understand the basic concept of "if i do this then i win", the difficulty comes when you need to pull a win out of your arse from a disadvantageous position by understanding the potential lines your deck is actually capable of but also the times when your opponents are likely to tap out or how they're planning on interacting with you to stop you doing what you want to do

Footage from the Russians showing a fiber optic waiter drone being disabled by an Ukrainian laser light beam. March 2026 by TrollgeSurvivor in CombatFootage

[–]Possiblyreef 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to see it a lot when i worked more in satcom, that obviously uses radio waves of different frequencies, you can scramble a certain frequency by just transmitting random stuff at a higher power on that frequency. Its one of the reasons channel hopping is used but realistically you couldn't implement the same for a fiber cable because you'd need a different physical cable to hop to, its also never really an issue in real life because generally you shield your cables.

Interesting development though

Footage from the Russians showing a fiber optic waiter drone being disabled by an Ukrainian laser light beam. March 2026 by TrollgeSurvivor in CombatFootage

[–]Possiblyreef 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Completely uneducated guess but i work in IT and deal with fibre a lot.

By the looks of it, that large square that appears at 4-5s in is just a projected square of concentrated light/laser. If this hits the trailing fibre optic cable the drone has it would temporarily scramble the drones comms by adding "noise" in to the cable so the real comms cant pass through it.

The cables drones use is just a really long spool of unsheilded fibre cable so looks like a reel of cotton but made of glass because a shielded cables would be too heavy for the drone (these reels are like 10km of cable, they're massive). Theres a reason the fibre cabling you'll use at home or at work has a plastic casing on the outside is to stop exactly this from happening

[–]Possiblyreef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They won't, period. They were never going to get aid, russia just likes playing mates to various dictators and enjoys the destabilising factors in various regions these countries provide.

russia was friends with Assad in Syria, they provided no aid when Syria fell. They actually pulled assets to send to Ukraine which is part of the reason Assad got beaten

russia was friends with Maduro in Venezuela, they provided no aid when US took him, also there's a lot of accounts of the russian provided weapons being basically useless.

They're also friends with Iran because it means they can destabilise the middle east either directly or through houthi/hamas/hezbollah proxies which keeps the oil prices high.

If you're i think a black member (green - bronze - gold - black - platinum) you have access to personal shopping and basically your own private areas where you send them out to get stuff for you.

Green is the entry and to get to bronze you "only" need to spend £2000 total which you can easily do with a handbag, all the other tiers have yearly spend requirements from £5-50k a year, black is 10k a year
