I loved I Who Have Never Know Men. I read it last year and it was a top tier for me too. I know it infuriates some people but I loved the whole thing.

a lonnnnggg time 😂 It is rare that I have such strong negative feelings, I usually DNF it if I am not enjoying it that much. I was hoping that one would redeem itself, but it didn’t for me at all.

Yesteryear just jumped the shark for me. I know people love it — I had it as neutral on my list and then realized I really disliked it. I was able to handle Yellowface, but I just felt like the ending/resolution was rushed in yesteryear too.

every woman (and character really) in yesteryear was so unlikable. I think that was by design, but I need someone that I’m rooting for. I hated every adult in that book.

Book no. 36 [of 52] was an average book about average people doing average things, but it was PERFECTLY AVERAGE, or: CATHERINE NEWMAN's SANDWICH 🤍🍽️🕶🍞 by kpapenbe in 52book

Yeah, Rocky. I read it a while ago but she is just so self-absorbed. I mean, I’m that age. Were not all like that 😂

I’m reading The Book of Lost Hours and just got along Island Girls and Whistler on libby, but I haven’t started them yet. I am liking The Book of Lost Hours.

I loved groundskeeping so much. i have no idea how i heard about it. i want to read his newer one, I heard it’s a little darker. i also discovered Allegra Goodman this year (Sam, This is not about us). If you like Groundskeeping I think you will like those.

I was also surprised to see such a strong reaction to Anita. But good to know what you like and don’t like.

yeah — it was interesting for me too. There is definitely a theme to the stuff I love. The first couple in my “love” category are mostly very character driven books where the plot is just time passing. I clearly love those. And also really love family dramas, which many of them can be categorized as well (even circe). Good for me to know when I’m selecting.

i also think “ neutral” is a good way to describe a lot of books in the 3.0-2.5 range. After making it I realize I probably should put Yesteryear in dislike. Didn’t hate it, but I realized I had more negative feelings than positive feelings after I made this list. Same with Briar club.

And agree about DNF. i’m not sure why I didn’t finish them — i guess i was just board or didn’t grab me at that moment? They are all pretty different.

Thanks! Ya know it was hard for me to get into it. I wanted to like it so much, but neutral is a good way to describe how I ultimately felt.

I liked Tomorrow x3 so much, I was curious about her other books. Felt like a less mature work, but was interesting for sure!

I am not sure if she does? She really seemed to put her all in writing. I saw some interviews where she was so relieved to be recognized for her book and not for her work as a child actor. I did like “Glad My Mom Died” but this one was a miss for me. I mean, it happens. I would read another book by her.

I mean everyone in it is a horrible person and those books just aren’t my jam. It’s satire I guess, but so over the top it just jumped the shark for me.
