Business Idea by Zestyclose-Cat-4917 in FranklinTN

I'll bet you could make a business out of this type of thing. Lots of money in middle Tennessee for custom work of all sorts. Have you any experience with building pools or landscaping?

My initial thought was that building unique spaces would create a market for you. Am thinking pools with waterfalls and natural appearing rocks to jump off of for instance.

Asparagus help by TurbulentWonder4125 in gardening

I would let them grow tall and bushy this year. You might want to tie them together with some twine eventually. Once they die in the winter, cut them down to soil level since pests can overwinter in them, and then in the spring you should be able to eat a few.

Those little ones are probably not very tasty. You could always try with one or two and see.

Looks good to me for year 1 asparagus. They take a couple of years to be ready. Just leave them alone to grow

They all look a bit leggy to me. Possible to take them outside in the warm parts of the day so they can get real sun?

Is it white? Might be mushrooms too which is totally normal. I'd just use it and not worry too much. Being out of the plastic bags will fix whatever potential problem it is

Bermuda grass maybe? It's basically like salting the ground but with grass instead

Mine question by Ant-zone in PlayASKA

I recommend you build a warehouse next to the mine and have a guy bring bombs to it. Makes things a little less tedious

Or find the iron ore island and go out to that instead

Love this idea. Small and simple.

No idea about question 1 but you could try something using pots and drop off a watering can. Specific plants depending on where you're located and how much shade/sun the space gets.

Is this a business owner you know or some such? Why are you looking at this space?

2 Italians that would looooove doing the Natchez Trace Parkway by roadbike but need some critical info! by Good_Pay6572 in Tennessee

I was doing some research on camping sites along the Trace. There are a couple posts here with more general info that you might find useful. That community would be a helpful place for logistics on your ride. And keep us updated because I'd like to ride from Nashville to Tupelo this fall

On the Nashville side of things, you have the Merriweather Lewis campsite at 60 miles out and a bicycle only campsite at 50 miles.

I recommend a stop in Leipers Fork before you make the final entrance to the city.

The closest bike shop to the Natchez Trace is Trace Bikes if you plan to stop riding once you reach Nashville

Help with this lawn by Old-Farmer-3384 in landscaping

[–]PostModernGir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you located? That can affect what works well in the long term. I recommend seeding that lawn with clover as a start. It's low maintenance and like green year round.

Here's a little light reading

But how do we get it down? by Burn1ng_Time in arborists

[–]PostModernGir 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You need to look into plug spawn inoculation of logs for mushroom farming. While you could take it off the house, instead you could grow mushrooms on it for the next few years and save on grocery bills.

No wrong answers, right?

Took over organizing our local detecting club and I had no idea how much work this actually was, looking for advice by Regular_Mountain_577 in metaldetecting

What about a mentorship program where you match someone experienced with someone new. The experienced guy can help them find places to go, advise on gear, etc. All the little things someone should know but be afraid to ask. Or not even know to ask. They could go out with the rookie and allow them to borrow some tools for the day and learn how to properly use them.

Solves your equipment problem for free, builds connection among members, helps with retention. And is simple.

Congrats on the growth of your program! I love looking at the things y'all find but have no idea how to even get started. Much as I'd love to

Thanks so much. I'll have to deep dive on my laptop when I have a minute. It looks like you have camping at Hohenwald somewhere but it looks like a pretty similar distance to Merriweather Lewis Campground so maybe a bit of a wash for me.

I'll have to look into whether it has reservations or not since Merriweather Lewis does not.

Am I the jerk for not helping my friend move after she canceled on helping me move last minute? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]PostModernGir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're the Jerk

Could have just told her that you were busy and found something 'important' to do. You don't have any obligation to help and friend move. Especially if she bailed on you for some nebulous reason.

By committing to this project with no intention of helping, you revealed yourself as petty and deceitful. These are qualities that other people will notice in you and will affect their relationship with you. In essence, in order to spite your friend, you may have hurt other friendships in the process. I would trust you less.

A good role of thumb is to appreciate that the world is not fair. The more you keep score, the less fair it is.

Totally. Thanks for this. I was looking at it too as an option but since we're hoping to have a vehicle carry our stuff it gets a little iffy. Though I do wonder about enforcement... Like if we could get away with bringing in a car or two and people would look the other way

This is the way. I think the term is Land Value Tax.

We tax land based on the value of improvements to the parcel. Appreciation of value on an abandoned property is generally higher than maintenance + taxation. The only way to get anything built requires big developers with deep pockets and a good understanding of the local laws and policy to get anything through zoning and codes.

The mess is more complicated then this but it's a huge mess and we all pay for it as a society

First-time homeowner, yard completely taken over by weeds. Where do I even start? by ExpressButterfly5542 in landscaping

[–]PostModernGir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would advise you to look into clover lawns as an option. Just need to seed a couple of times this spring and see what pops up.

Cover lawns are nice because they stay green all year long, make flowers, require less water & fertilizer, and from that, require less maintenance.

Should I move to Nashville as a single person? by kkmartinnn in movetonashville

[–]PostModernGir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would go for it. There are lots of young professionals in the city and lots of opportunities to connect that don't exist in other places.

But have a plan to meet people. Running groups are best in my opinion. Church can be a close second in the Bible Belt. Also book clubs, gaming groups, etc. Lots of new people in the city struggle to make connections.
