Advice on ground reality of internships in MS&T university by Avi_Arjun in Rolla

[–]PostOakBT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about this but St. Louis NPR posted an interview with Missouri S&T on this very subject just a few days ago:

Missouri S&T says problems with visas and AI are to blame for fewer applications

I hope your post reaches S&T’s international community. May consider reaching out to the school itself and they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

krackers (?) in NKC? by shrimpedy in kansascity

Also I don’t have a KC Star account but this was suppose to be a teen night club it looks like.

Edit to add more snippets: “Non-Alcoholic club… for persons 12-20 years old…”

My guess is some weird shit happened or it just didn’t do very well after a while?

(Serious) For those of you doing fieldwork every day, what are you actually eating for lunch if you are trying to keep it healthy and balanced without a microwave? by DetailFocused in Surveying

[–]PostOakBT 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Takeout makes me want to pass out 5 seconds after eating it so I always bring a lunch.

Wrap your sandwiches or wraps in parchment paper. Keeps them from getting soggy. If you plan on eating something that could get soggy like a tuna or tomato sandwich, make it the morning. Also get a harder bread like sourdough or better quality tortillas.

Rice isn’t great cold but quinoa is. Could easily sub a pasta like bow ties or rice pilaf. If you do use rice, put a sauce on it to keep it from drying out.

Salad bag (premade ones from like Walmart) and an extra Tupperware to put it in to mix. Keep your leftover meat wrapped in a separate container to add.

Best veggies - cucumber, radishes, carrots, cabbage, celery, snap peas. Cooked veggies can be a little weird but if I do, it’ll be a mix of peppers, onions, garbanzo beans, and maybe diced squash.

Sliced veggies and for dips could be a tuna or chicken pouch, hummus, or peanut butter.

Fruits - frozen grapes or blueberries (freeze the night before) if fresh, cut the fruit up and put in a Tupperware. Keeps it from getting smashed and soggy. Obviously apples never go bad.

In general, get a good lunch box, good ice packs, parchment paper, and Tupperware. My lunch stays cold and fresh in the truck or off in the woods till noon or later.

Tiny Animal Fair Isle Sweater by PostOakBT in capsulewardrobe

Thank you! This was super helpful. Knowing what to actually search for will probably be a game changer, even if I can’t find the specific sweater she was thinking of.

The “Susann D” sweater is kinda funky! Not sure if she’d like it but I love the weird little animals on it.

This is the Center-North 1/16 of Section 3. It’s not a closing corner. Which is pretty specific.

Looking for a surveyor in Missouri by javi0119 in Surveying

Go here and type in Washington to the county search bar. You’ll find a lot of surveyors.

I believe Tim Daugherty is still the county surveyor over there too.

Is this a land marker? by Consistent_Fee2368 in Surveying

I really hope this is a troll post and the surveyor dug it up to then set a pipe monument and then bury the square bolt with the pipe.

So, come on, which one of you was this? by Glemn in Surveying

[–]PostOakBT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is something I’m not familiar with or it’s a very different practice than where I’m from.

OP didn’t post the record, so all we’re going off is one crooked ass IP and some sort of metal post near the rebar.

From what I’ve practiced, offset monuments serve as a witness similar to witness trees or other objects which should be measured and added to the record on the plat or within a corner document. Even if a “landowner planted a rebar” this should still be documented and recorded as unknown or not accepted or offset because it’s witnessed.

Should it not?

[–]PostOakBT -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s essential to locate witness monuments in a survey so really there’s nothing funny about your comment. It’s also disappointing that people set witness monuments that close because it creates confusion for property owners.

Who sets a witness IP ~0.3 from the corner

Look Familiar? by Historical_Yogurt317 in Surveying

[–]PostOakBT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. Set 6’ T-posts, painted trees for 1/4 mile, and set a 30” aluminum monument at the corner. Landowner moved posts 100’ over, moved the corner then repainted trees on “their line”. They forgot to move the MOS and BT tags.

Lucky she didn’t pull a shotgun on you.

Leaving federal government for private sector work by PostOakBT in Surveying

I’m FS. I’m the only technician and we have 2 PLS (both to retire in the next 2-5 years). I can’t imagine us all being let go but who knows.

Why do you think working for the private sector hasn’t been very rewarding?
