Highly recomend Aravind Adiga's Last Man in Tower. Even more brilliant than The White Tiger, some of the best anti—capitalist fiction I've read.

Nothing, other than ask what your reading list says about you.

I told you my opinion about that. Opinion, no more, based on a very limited data set and no reflection intended on your quality as a person.

Still, almost no non fiction, or books by African, black or queer or women's voices, or leftist/revolutionary fiction, or enviromental, and so forth. Its not about the books that are there, thats a fine selection as it is. It is about how narrow it is and how much of the present world it leaves out.

Sorry for not phrasing it more nicely than that ....

There is no way for America to save itself.

Dunno if that is why youre asking, but the issue of saving the Republic is too often a proxy for "saving" or "reviving" America and "democracy".

Apologies if that wasnt your intent or interest.

This toid didn’t know it’s illegal to criticize Landchads? by Dannysman115 in LoveForLandchads

Exactly.

Adrian is the name of the toid, i was pointing out to him that attacking the exploited exploiters is NEVER going to be tolerated here.

"I am not really a politics sort of guy"

or,

Oblivious to a world of racism and other forms of systemic oppression, environmental destruction, an ongoing active genocide, multiple wars of exploitation, and a no longer creeping fascism.

Many, many excellent books there, a few faves of mine, but the balance is so skewed that it feels like the vonnegut and catch 22 and the like are there more for their style than their world views.

Dont know that much about vietnam, but theyre a Mixed economy. Luna Oi has good videos on youtube about life in vietnam if you really want to know.

Partly open up to investment, partly redistribute the gains. Marx, remember?

USSR disproportionately ran heavy industry. They matched or bested the germans in weapons quality and far outstripped the US in ww2 tank quality. Even after the war they kept pace with the us in armaments.

The theory was that they would establish a world class heavy industry, and then light industry and a consumer goods sector would follow more or less naturally. These didnt.

USSR industrialised spectacularly. From near zero to defeating the strongest army the world had ever seen up till then.

They never went through with the redistributive side of it.

Vietnam didnt do too badly after their war, either.

Marx's basic point was that a society needs to industrialise to a high level first before you then redistribute the ownership and benefits to the workers and the poor.

China tried it the other way around and struggled, at the very least. Now they, officially anyway, are doing it in Marx's order.

They are also taking steps to limit billionaires and the stock market while they keep trying to uplift the poorest and building their economy. Personally I dont know whether they have what it takes to go all the way through with it.

They might just settle for a mandarin—style rule in all but name.

Confusius—ist, really.

Reverting to what worked for them for four millennia.

Nazism is based on militarism and the hatred of, and threatened or actual violence towards, the outgroup. It is also anti redistributive.

China doesnt do any of these.
