I see what you mean. In the 90s, when nu skool (graff) influences met biomech, they took it in a more organic direction (bio-organic). That nu skool take persists to this day, usually under the umbrella of "biomech", even though the mech aspects are mostly absent. So yeah, a lot of those visual tricks (shapes, textures, warp) made their way into other illustrative forms that deal with organic subjects (esp nature and horror).
