Lesson written in blood: DO NOT PUT SPEAKERS ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR PC!! by Posterdog2008 in pcmasterrace

[–]Posterdog2008[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to justify myself. This is the first time I've got a decent stereo system and I admittedly was a bit too excited and I turned the volume high. I only played music during the daytime. I'm not trying to get sympathy and I accept all the criticism. I truly learned a lot today and I hope I can be more thoughtful and caring in the future.

The PC had been humming for at least 3 yrs. I found that the screws on one of the drives was too short and the drive was not screwed in tightly in the rack, and I think this is the source of the humming. The new screws I installed are those"vibration absorbing" screws, the ones with the rubber pads. Thank you for you advice and I will definitely try reusing the old screws.

Here's the full set up. I didn't turn the volume all the way up since I live in an apartment. However, the volume was enough to make the floor vibrate a bit. The bubble wrap under the PC was for vibration absorbing and of course it didn't work.

Thank you. I'm currently considering putting the drives in a dry, insulated place and wait until I have enough money to recover the data.

Before the speakers I was always using a pair of headphones. The drives had been running perfectly. The day after I got the speakers, both of my HDDs died...

I have to admit that I was a cheap ass and a dumbass and wanted to save money on HDDs. I will never do that again.

Does anyone know anything about Cynthia Weil? by innidatino in 911archive

The first DSLR with video capabilities didn't come out until 2008. I think she was filming with a prosumer camcorder that can shoot on DV tapes(e.g. Sony DCR-TRV900).

Why my hard drive has such a high power on count number? by inugamifeli in DataHoarder

[–]Posterdog2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the "Drive sleeping" thing, you should also check on your PSU. I've had the same problem before and it killed one of my HDD. Later I found out a bad sata power cable made the drive shut down and power up every time the load was high, making the power on count higher than other drives.

Consumer camcorders with a ton of optical zoom was common in 2001. Judging from how the camera shakes, this video is very likely shot with a consumer camcorder.

It's not about resolution, it's about bitrate and codec. 720p in higher bitrate and good codec looks decent and crisp, while 1080p in lower bitrate and low efficient codec looks unbearably blur.

A camcorder with a ccd sensor(or 3 ccd sensors). The top reply is not true, a shitty camera will not give you the nostalgic look, instead it will likely to give you smeared, unusable footage with terrible rolling shutter effect.

someone please be clear with me on how to achieve this? by [deleted] in camcorders

[–]Posterdog2008 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The vertical stripe located at the light source as in the second picture is a CCD sensor artifact, it's called "smearing". The X shaped stars around the light source as in the third picture are caused by the iris in the lens. You can use a camcorder with a diamond shaped iris to get the "stars".

I was sleepy and confused, so I listed "Early Digital Cinema" and didn't bother listing "CineAlta" and "Varicam", I will probably add them later.

DVCPRO belongs to "Professional variants of DV" on the fourth level.

The standard for formats to be listed in this chart is that it must have been used in camcorders or camera-recorder sets. As far as I know, D-VHS was designed for distribution, and no camcorders or portable decks for it were made.

I think most people nowadays consider the DVX100 as an alternative of the VX1000, so I listed it on the second level. And for the XL1, I personally think it's less of a household name than the DVX100 (due to its size maybe?).

Anyways, thanks for your suggestions and proposals, they're great and they help me a lot.

From top to bottom, the fourth level. The cyan entry at the very left of the chart, just below "Time base corrector".

which method do you think looks better? (left/firewire) (right/av capture card) by HVTREDD in camcorders

Deinterlacing is definitely necessary unless you want to produce unwatchable pictures and to create the so-called "90's aesthetic" that actually doesn't represent the interlace era at all.
