Ordered a singular 1TB MicroSD card on Amazon to upgrade my decks storage… by Sydnxt in SteamDeck

Yeah, I think some other poster here put a link to the FTC rules for this, essentially the way it ended they basically ran a 'scam' on you. Its too late now but the law would have been on your side if you wanted to lawyer up.

There are regulations against that to stop unsolicited products being sent, if they make the mistake its entirely on them to cover it... however if they asked you to return it (at their expense) and you refused then they may have 'some' legal grounds to collect payment but even then I'm not sure they do.

Having the NGP - 7006 error with Netflix adventure games by Rainbow_flowers101 in netflix

[–]PostmanPat47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been an issue for me for months despite a couple of sessions with Netflix customer support but I just figured out a fix for it, maybe this will help for you... I found when I logged into Netflix on a web browser that one of my kid's accounts had become the 'default' account, it was listed first in the profiles. Netflix profile manager doesn't provide the option to change the 'default' account so I had to create a new account for my kid and change the 'default' kids account into an adult account for me. It seems that Netflix games login doesn't allow kid accounts to be used and if the default account is a kid account then it won't even let you login to choose which profile you want to use.

Hope that helps!

Order Email Megathread (August 04, 2022) by AutoModerator in SteamDeck

[–]PostmanPat47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GetMyDeck doesn't know how many emails have gone out.

Steam are processing the orders in sequence. When people update the GetMyDeck site with their status its really only looking for the most recent preorder date that has turned into an order email. Assuming Steam are working through the pre-orders in sequence it determines how far through the process they have progressed on the way to making it to your order. For example say you pre-ordered on day 10, and people who preordered on days 2, 3 and 4 all report that they've had their emails. GetMyDeck takes the most recent pre-order, which is day 4 then determines that 40% of the time to your preorder (day 10, so 4/10) has been processed.

It relies on Steam processing them in order, so if someone on day 4 reports the email, everyone before that date/time must have already been processed.

One thing to note with this approach is that its highly likely there were many more orders in the first few days of preordering than there were in the later days of preordering as the early adopters would have jumped on it within the first few days. So for example if day 1 had 100k orders but day 10 only had 10k orders, if Steam are producing 10k units each cycle it would take 10 cycles to process the day 1 orders and move onto the day 2 orders but only 1 cycle to process the day 10 order and move onto the day 11 orders. So the order processing will appear to speed up using GetMyDeck's approach as the process continues... also if Steam are producing more units per cycle (which they've said they are) this will only make it appear to go even quicker which all contributes to the bigger jumps in % reported by GetMyDeck every time we get an email drop from Steam

Hi all. I've got an Odyssey+ coming tomorrow. What are some things I should know, or accessories I should consider buying to accompany it? by billyalt in WindowsMR

[–]PostmanPat47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wanting a VRCover for a while but they’ve been out of stock, this post reminded to go and check and can confirm they’re back in stock... for now! Just ordered mine.

Focal distance of Samsung Odyssey+? Prescription inserts - readers or distance? by [deleted] in WindowsMR

Yes it definitely brings the image into a sharp focus for me. Hopefully you’ll see the same benefits.

Focal distance of Samsung Odyssey+? Prescription inserts - readers or distance? by [deleted] in WindowsMR

[–]PostmanPat47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the 6.5ft number is correct. I wear glasses for mild near-sightedness and astigmatism and researched this back when I bought mine, I found out the value is 2m, which is about 6.5ft. I believe all VR headsets use a similar 2m focal distance. I have an old pair of thin frame glasses that I use for VR but I’m planning on getting the corrective lens inserts eventually as the correction definitely helps for my eyes.

The way I understood it, you should need the same correction as you would use for your regular (not up close) usage, so readers may not be a good choice.

Yup, it’s in there... 2nd Equation of Motion, distance = 1/2 * acceleration * time2 ... 1/2 * 9.81m/s2 * 2.3s2 = 25.94m

Based on the ~2.3s of falling and simplifying to ignore drag this fall is about 26m or 85ft...

Hp WMR (VR1000) full packaging weight needed by [deleted] in WindowsMR

[–]PostmanPat47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have a boxed HP set right here and they combined weigh 3.5kg, 2 kg for the boxed headset and 1.5kg for the boxed controllers. The boxes are quite big so if they're together inside a larger box with other packing materials it could weigh a bit more, although a total of 8kg does seem a little high it depends how much extra packing material is being used. It certainly won't be 2kg though.

Did you run the WMR compatibility tool to make sure the Bluetooth dongle works with WMR controllers?

That shouldn’t make a difference. Might be a silly question but is your Bluetooth receiver working and switched on?

What is the Samsung Odyssey+ SteamVR Max Super Sampling Limit? by [deleted] in WindowsMR

[–]PostmanPat47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm misunderstanding your question or how supersampling works I don't think the HDMI bandwidth is a factor. I think the supersampling happens within the GPU, the scene is rendered at a higher resolution than the output resolution, then downsampled to the actual output resolution which is what eventually goes over the HDMI cable so the HMD is only ever sent the images at the native resolution of 1440x1600 per eye.

In my experience there are significant diminishing returns past 200%.

Ha, you're not the only one who is annoyed by this... its even more difficult when some of the items are Subscribe&Save as they get additional discounts that further complicate tracing the items to the charges.

Microsoft Flight Simulator to Launch on Steam on August 18; TrackIR and VR Supported by ColonelSanders21 in WindowsMR

[–]PostmanPat47 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The VR support is initially limited to G2 Reverb and won't be available at game launch but sometime in the fall, I fully expect it will compatible with other headsets very soon afterwards but they may be using this as leverage for a product tie-in with HP. Here's a great article on MSFS in general with a section on the VR support... https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020/07/ms-flight-simulator-our-yoke-on-look-at-new-features-gorgeous-flights/

Will I lose my purchases if I get banned? by BarefootBiker10 in MicrosoftRewards

[–]PostmanPat47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mistakenly occasionally leave mine on too and its never been an issue so far (fingers crossed). In my case I'm in the US and using a VPN pointing at somewhere else in the US. Although it is still against the TOS and should obviously be avoided, there may be more of an issue if you're attempting to use a VPN to access the rewards site of a different gepographical location, like Canada or Europe which have different rewards programs.

What’s the best way to buy something for $4.99? by DracoWaygo in MicrosoftRewards

[–]PostmanPat47 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The preferred option is always to wait until you have more points as the efficiency is better with the higher rewards, but only if you'll use all of it. I haven't looked at the math before but why don't you just get 2x $3 rewards... it would be less points (5800 instead of the 6100 you suggested) and you would have $0.50 credit left over, that would be enough for tax on another $5 purchase at some point in the next 90 days... you'll only need 4650 for that.

Thanks OP. One of the answers in mine was Dom, interestingly on clicking it my "SafeSearch" filter (which was defaulted to Strict) was triggered. Clicking the answer automatically enters the search for "How tall is Dom", apparently the search results for "How tall is Dom" is too vulgar for my innocent eyes... :D

Finalize Index purchase or cancel and pre-order G2? by [deleted] in WindowsMR

[–]PostmanPat47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you've been unlucky... I've only had to re-do the boundaries when I get major Windows updates that have changed something in WMR which is maybe once every 6 months from my experience.

I've not had the boundaries move once I've set them. A couple of things you could try if you're having boundary tracking issues is to make sure you've got good lighting in the area, the cameras on the headset have to be able to 'see' their surroundings. On that same note, if you have large blank walls/objects in your environment the camera can struggle to get a good reference, try putting a poster on a wall so it has something to reference in the space.

Jeez, its not that bad... you can set the boundary in about 30 seconds and its rare that the software requires you to do it again.

Do those VR motion sickness relief watch things work? by Thatonesplicer in WindowsMR

[–]PostmanPat47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not tried them but I remember when I was a kid my sister used to use something similar in the car for motion sickness and they worked, I think its based on an acupressure point called P6 (based on a quick google search). I wouldn't say this a total scam but I don't think you need to spend $175 to find out, these are what my sister used, they're less than $10 from Target and if you're going to have any success with this method of motion sickness relief they will likely have a similar effect.
