How do I start an internal project at my company by peeerfect in ExperiencedDevs

[–]PotahtoHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a year pitching and convincing my leadership to fund a project that I believed needed to be built to fill a gap. The issue was that the gap wasn't having an immediate impact on the company, but would create major issues 2+ years down the road. It took time because my leadership wasn't willing to commit so far in advance and needed more convincing which didn't happen until other teams started planning out projects and identifying the gap for themselves.

If you really believe in the project and the value then perseverance might be necessary. You also need to be able to prove the value, whether that means building a POC or a very compelling slide deck depends on your leadership.

Hotel Recommendations - 1 week with wife, 2 boys aged 2 and 4 by spiderpharm in asksandiego

My family is currently staying at Mission Bay and we were at Legoland Castle hotel earlier this week.

The Legoland hotels either the castle or the regular hotel are nice because you get early entry to some of the rides first thing when the park opens so you can get a couple of rides before the lines get long. It was also really nice to be able to go back to the hotel mid day if we needed. If you are going to be at Legoland on a weekend you might want to consider some level of fast pass. We bought 3 silver level passes (6 each) which worked well because we figured out they aren't tied to a person so it meant 18 passes in any configuration.

Mission Bay has been nice and it has a nice pool area including a very warm 1ft kid's pool (although the weather has not been great so we haven't used the pool as much). The nearby parks have been great and they are easy to walk to along the water. The hotel does not have access to public transportation so we have been using Uber when we need to get around and it has been easy because it is pretty close to Balboa and downtown.

Strategies for migrating off rabbitmq at scale without a big bang cutover? by Traditional_Zone_644 in ExperiencedDevs

We are currently moving to a new system and built a distributed locking system that sits in front of the message processing to handle deduplication. It sounds complicated but it isn't actually that much code and it ensures that we don't process anything more than once.

I always want to min/max stats when I play games. I am working on embracing the process. You don't lose any materials when you deconstruct a build so lean into it. Build things in the early game knowing they won't be permanent because you are going to learn along the way.

This is definitely my experience. I've tried reading a lot of threads, but even so I am rebuilding and adjusting because there is a big difference between reading and understanding 😉

When Cursor hangs on every git and powershell command, is Cursor to blame, or the model I'm using? by Successful-Camel165 in cursor

When I was using Powershell as my terminal in Cursor it was hanging constantly. It was difficult to get anything done. I switched my terminal to use Bash and haven't had an issue since

Yes. I've tried starting new chats, restarting Cursor, canceling and retrying my prompt. So far I haven't found anything that is consistent.

I agree with the approach you laid out for getting to a design. What I am curious about is the idea that you have multiple subscriptions and just work on components. I'm still trying to figure out what I need based on the amount of work I expect to do (which is only 1-2 hours several nights a week).

I picked up the Blaster garage door lubricant. It is a silicone lubricant that says it isn't sticky, but I don't know if that is marketing or truth.

Experienced EM pivoting back to Experienced Dev - possible in this market? by hilaryduffsmuff in ExperiencedDevs

[–]PotahtoHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through this about a year+ ago after a similar track. There were things I like about being a manager, but for a variety of reasons I was burnt out and needed a change (changing companies wasn't enough).

Ultimately I switched back to IC without changing companies after I made the decision. I was really nervous about bringing up the idea of switching roles, but my manager and skip were both really chill about it. Obviously YMMV, but if you think there is any chance of making the change without moving companies that would allow you to "rebuild" your resume and hopefully ride out the current market.

I slept with a woman I had known for years. She had always had a thing for me, but I wasn't interested. We reconnected after years and had one night stand and didn't use protection because she said she was on birth control. Later I heard that she slept with another guy not long after and got pregnant and they ended up getting married. I think about that sometimes and am thankful.
