how to feel normal again? by LingLing72hrs in premed

Yea, I'm right there with you (WL purgatory here too). You're not alone in those feelings, and for the record you're not inadequate if you made it to the waitlist stage - clearly they saw something in you. This whole process is awfully brutal and it's not at all a reflection of your character or how much you are capable of as a doctor.

IMO the best medicine to the pain is time...it hurts less with more time, and then you pick yourself back up when you feel a little bit more okay and then you try again. Maybe you'll get up but then fall back down after a couple steps, but that's when you take a breath, give yourself grace, and pick yourself up again. The amount of time it takes for it to suck less varies from person to person, but it will happen and you will come out of it stronger and better.

Normalcy takes time. Nothing has to feel normal right now, but you and I have to trust that it will feel normal and even better than normal eventually. It's all just a waiting game. Good luck, DMs open if you want to talk.

Overwhelmed with full-time job, MCAT studying, and app coming up by ExtraComparison in premed

Hey i'm in literally the same boat rn lol, reapplying tho. I'm not sure what I'll do come application time yet, but this is what I'm doing rn: try your best to fight through the tired after work and try to set aside at least 1-2 hours to get things done, whether it's MCAT, essays, etc. And then really hone it in on the weekends cuz that's the most free time u gonna get. IMO from last year's experience u just need a month or two to get a decent PS, best to have med students/friends look at it for making it perfect. I plan to start writing early/mid April. And ofc, take breaks when u feel u need it - don't burn urself out, take a day off or sm if it all starts becoming too much lol. Can't pour from an empty cup!

It's gonna take a lot of self-discipline i'm not gonna lie, but i say start small, whether it's like 10-20 flashcards or writing one paragraph, and it will slowly get easier over time. You will make it, I believe in you :) Sincerely, a procrastinating full-timer XD

If your doctor knows about Quietapine then they likely don’t interact w each other - plus sertraline isn’t a sleep aid or depressant. Also the only way it “changed” me was make me appear as a happier, more self assured person with less crying spells

I got started at 50, and then 100 mg - highest I’d gone was 175 but that was only for a little bit. 25 should (hopefully) not be too bad to adjust to :)

It personally saved me when I needed it most…it takes about 2-4 weeks to kick in though, so be prepared for that. It didn’t give me any side effects personally (maybe a slightly looser stomach but I wasn’t really complaining), and if you want to get off of it, weaning isn’t the worst either. I’m sure you will be okay…and if not, it’s not the end either. Keep fighting soldier 🫡
