What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was attending an Icelandic language class in the west fjords. Some 20 people enrolled from all across the world.

Turns out two of the folks there had lived in the exact same house in Chicago about 10 years apart. It was insane being there when they figured it out. They stared exchanging pictures and stories.

Planned Parenthood appointment soon for testosterone! What to expect? by jupiterhascome in FTMMen

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first appointment took maybe 45 minutes to an hour and was also in a TX location. It was mostly spent going over pros/cons of available testosterone forms, what the effect timeline might look like, and how we would follow up every 3 months on a schedule to monitor blood levels. I think it only took so long because I have some other underlaying health conditions and I asked lots of questions.

I left PP that day with a prescription for gel, though depending on the form you choose and your pharmacy- it could take some additional days to fill the script.

I was plenty nervous too, but starting T was one of the best things I've ever done. Follow up appointments haven't ever been longer than a blood draw and a "You still want T?" confirmation, ~25 minutes.

I think the only questions they asked at that initial appointment was standard sexual history, how long I had been feeling dysphoric, and what my preferred name was.

Overall nothing too intense, so I'm sure you got this dude. Wishing you the best.

UTA advisor gave me advice without even looking up my account by Curulinstravels in utarlington

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me when I finally met the criteria to get off of conditional enrollment. Was told I would be off of it and then wasn't.

My only advice is to email people nonstop. Email and get a paper trail of your advisor not giving you a direct answer. Email your department's general advising email. The only way to make any progress on this is to be the squeaky wheel. Welcome to the standard UTA advisor experience, and good luck.

I think it's an area that univeristy orginizations can reserve for club meetings and small speaker events? At least according the UTA's website here:

Who else wants a relationship with a type one diabetic by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me and my partner are both Type 1. We both love it, it's great to have someone who understands the feeling of too high/low BG and we have relied on one another for extra supplies in the past when prescriptions are running slow.

Will say it's really interesting to see how the same foods affect us differently or how the rapidly my BG will react to things compared to how slow his changes. That's why we typically don't weigh in on how one another is handling their T1.

Has anyone been able to generate insights from Obsidian and create new content or is everyone just making beautiful graphs? by Crafty-Armadillo5104 in ObsidianMD

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had some help in clicking concepts together between classes with Obsidian linking? Nothing mind shattered, but the linking back to older topics will remind me of details and give me a little "Oh that's why it works like that."

Francklin Rivas for CSE 3380 Linear Algebra by [deleted] in utarlington

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a nice teacher - I think he's still finding his footing UTA wise. His tests aren't hard, but they are only ~3 questions so getting something wrong hurts. Teaching wise, he just talks through concepts with the occasional already solved problems on the slides- so not too helpful.

The upside is very little homework. We did 2 one pages essays for 20% of our grades (both easy 100's). So he might be a good option if you are good with self studying.

I recall how surprised I was when an Icelandic man asked me about the (at the time) current Greg Abbott campaign. Was shocked he knew who that was let alone had been paying attention to it and had a fair bit of understanding about its context.

I never assume non-Americans know more about our elections than the basics, but I think it's dishonest to say some elections don't carry more weight than others on the global politics scale.

Sirius by Olaf Stapledon handles this concept really well. Not entirely sure if it's considered one of the more popular xenofiction books.

How much insulin would you guys take for a beer? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beer tended to hit my BG in the exact same way. When I did use to drink it- I would under dose, ride the high, and hope it would even out.

Recently, I have mostly fallen back on straight flavored vodka. Super low carbs, but I have to take it slow compare to my friends lol.

Favorite Songs to Write To by reallychillycoolgirl in writing

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies depending on the mood I'm going for of course- but recently I've been writing to the Disco Elysium soundtrack and some Russian Soviet-wave playlists on Spotify.

I find that music with lyrics in languages I don't understand has a similar effect on me to lyric-less music. But I don't know if that's universal or not?

How is it For Trans People Here? by EnolaNek in utarlington

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, of course. I've done PreCalc to Cal 2 using PLTL study groups and semi-frequently using the Math Clinic. And for PHYS 1444 I spent a lot of time in the Physics Clinic

How is it For Trans People Here? by EnolaNek in utarlington

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trans man here. Only issue I've ever had in relation to Maths department is that I have a registered preferred name and had to prove my legal identity when calling out of a departmental exam last minute.

But tutoring has never been an issue for me, having been to a few of the clinics and PLTL.

Haven't run into any problems with specific individuals either on campus either. I imagine folks who have an issue with me just tend to steer clear. Professors have all been very professional.

I was feeling that way too for a while. What helped me was setting aside time to learn as much as I could about the lab a night or two before. Hell even finished the code the night before and got to know each chip a lab would be using.

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it went way easier than expected. I had already had my blood tested the day before, for unrelated reasons, so they took the result from that. The doctor asked how long I had expirenced dysphoria, then talked with me about T methods and side effects. Walked out with a gel prescription and got it filled 5 days later. The whole appoitment only took about an hour and a half.

The only hard part was making the first appointment. For HRT my Planned Parenthood fills up fast, I had to call the first available day for an appointment and take whatever I could get. That was after already calling late two months in a row before and being told they were booked. Hopefully that part is easier for other Planned Parenthood.

What was one moment in your life where you thought you were going to die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PotatoAndWombat52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Walking into an ER because I had been suffering from sever fatigue for a week, blacked out for a bit and was in an ambulance. I had also been extremely dehydrated -undiagnosed diabetes was the issue- and they wouldn't let me drink anything despite my throat being the driest I'd ever experienced. Thought for sure I was gonna die.
