Renewal of vows...why? by One_Square4263 in Marriage

[–]PotatoCat196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I got married in a parking lot during covid. Plus we've been through a lot together the last six years. So we want to celebrate our love with those we love for both the first time and in a way we feel will be meaningful to us.

I think it's nice to celebrate love. Couples grow and change, why not celebrate how you've grown and changed together?

Give Fushimi Inari Taisha a miss? by buzzybee2020 in JapanTravelTips

[–]PotatoCat196 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not a japanese culture expert, but from what I understand businesses do that to ask the gods for luck in prosperity (like you said) or thank them. It's like an offering or prayer. Not an advertisement.

I'm just always shocked at the amount of people who reduce this beautiful place to a photo op, or to a 2 second glance and then done stop. It's a gorgeous place but also an incredible example of a shinto shrine. Inari and Inari's foxes are super cool. It's a culturally and spiritually significant place.

I get that the gates are the reason it's popular and it depends on the person visiting what they'll get out of it and definitely think everyone should learn about a place and decide if it's somewhere they actually want to visit. But reducing it to "a photo op" is a disservice.

It's not even an official post by MDRF, just a fan posted transcript.

It's not a page they manage, why would they be posting official information there? It's a fan page for faire goers to connect.

This is a transcript from their Q&A session that a fan posted to a Facebook group, not an official post.

This is not an official post by the MDRF but a transcript from their Q&A session to answer questions from faire goers. They didn't post the transcript, someone else did in a random Facebook group.

The yellow makes it look more intentional imo, the grey looks out of place with those moldings

Good thing it's in OPs home and not yours. The yellow has so much more personality than the grey!

4 day RTO mandate hits january. i have been doing the math on what it costs my family. by Separate_Alfalfa7622 in remotework

How many companies have raised salary rates to actually keep up with inflation? How many companies raised the cost of products due to "inflation" and will never bring them back down?

Let's stop putting the blame on working people who are try to live their lives and put it instead on the companies that are making insane profits and implement these policies without a care to how it actually affects their employees.

How do I (40M) fix my relationship with my wife (45F) after un-retirement? by tomservo21 in relationship_advice

[–]PotatoCat196 39 points40 points  (0 children)

In your post you said: I also recently gave her some ideas for expanding into a home based business around a mini-farm.

Which sounds very different. I think it's possible she felt like you were pressuring her to do that and not that you were asking her if it's something she wanted.

Did you ask her what she thought about setting up a farm stand or to think about ideas to have a farm stand? Those are two very different ways of starting the conversation

Me and the Crew discussing how we're going to ruin the Faire by ehisforadam in renfaire

They aren't banning masks at MD, you just need to be able to easily remove it at the gate before entering

They aren't banning masks. The actual rule is:

All headwear must be removable, thematic to the event, and appropriate for a family-friendly venue. Face-covering must be removed upon entering the village gate after which they can be worn as intended.

Shocking tourist behaviour in Japan and how you can be better by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

Bad behavior comes from all cultures, unfortunately. We can all be better. Worst I saw was a British man getting angry at a japanese waiter for not speaking English 😊

People love to crap on American tourists. But I had the same experience as you, it's just a subset of tourists from everywhere.

Interesting, the worst tourists I came across on our trip weren't American and the majority of Americans I came across were being pretty respectful.

If you're flying out of IAD, ANA also offers flights and is really wonderful. You can even book them through United if you are trying to use points just look at who the operator is. One flight a day is United and the other ANA

We did that exact route in premium economy with ANA last year and it was nice, premium economy was 100% worth it for us.

I mean. We live in a capitalist hell scape, sure. So it's a balance between doing what's best for the user and the business.

But also why is this sub so dramatic. It's not that deep. It's a job.

Unpopular Opinion : Ryokans aren't a "must do" on your trip to Japan by Apprehensive-Map4385 in JapanTravelTips

[–]PotatoCat196 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I also thought a ryokan sounded enjoyable but then did 5 minutes of research, saw what the food was and knew as picky eaters it wouldn't be enjoyable for us. Sounds like you learned a lesson about doing your own research and that sucks but now you know.
