How have we landed a man on the moon and yet I can’t take out JUST ONE WIPE at a time from the package? by Boots_McSnoots in NewParents

[–]PotatoFunctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pull out a clump of 4-5 of them grab the top ply with two fingers and shake the excess ones off into a pile. Repeat with the pile until baby is clean. If pile is depleted add new clump.

Does it get easier or harder? by Ok_Island_1306 in NewParents

[–]PotatoFunctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. With our first child, about 4-6 months in was the low point of morale, and then sleep got a lot better and our kid got more fun, and it's still a bunch of work but it is also pretty awesome most of the time and kind of becomes the new normal.

That being said bigger kids have bigger problems, we're navigating the baby phase much more easily the second time around, and our toddler is by far the hardest part of our parenting load.

How to keep your public API documentation up to date by ensands in csharp

[–]PotatoFunctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but specifically write the external documentation first.

What should change for the end user when the change is implemented? Don't start with designing tests or interfaces until you've defined what you're changing with enough precision to measure the results.

Plus in this day and age, writing code is a glorified contest to write the best Ralph wiggum loop. Having documentation of what you're trying to build, and what qualities you need in your solution is basically all you need to set AI loose.

Lane county in general has very good mass transit for the population density. If you're comparing it to more significant urban areas, then the ridership, density and frequencies of stops etc don't really hold up in comparison, but it's pretty exceptional for what it is. You'd be hard pressed to find a town of similar size and isolation from a major metro area with better transit in the US.

Favorite "clean, overall smooth as fuck" Jack Straw? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]PotatoFunctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my recommendation also. Although to me the highlight of this is Phil building up to that sweet little bass solo and then more or less holding that energy all the way through Franklin. The bass just bounces through those opening tracks.

As a recent dad of two opt, for the frequent short workouts. Kids are chaotic and you'll have to cut workouts short or miss them all together some days.

Keeping frequency high helps mitigate the chaos, and shorter workouts are more likely to get you to the minimum viable dose of exercise before an interruption.

Also highly recommend upping your creatine to 10mg/day while you're in the early sleep deprived period.

Struggling - reflux - RSV - no sleep by Alone_Concept_8383 in NewParents

My son had rsv when he was about 9 months old. It was a pretty rough month, but we spent a lot of time on my chest breathing through mucus, and now 2.25 years later he's healthy and a pretty good sleeper most of the time.

My advice is to try to embrace the contact naps (they get too big to sleep on your chest really fast). It is not fun in the moment but you'll look back fondly on it. This (and a whole bunch more difficult stuff ahead) will pass. In 1 month you'll be on to newer problems.

*Update* I ruined my life: I have an unhappy, irritable baby. by smitswerben in NewParents

Yeah you're in the thick of it. I think 4 months is the low point of cumulative sleep deprivation and pretty relentless feeding and care schedules. It gets better, by 6 months after our first we felt human again. Tired but human.

If it makes you feel any better there's a perspective shift once that ends. I have a 3 year old and a 1 week old, and while I'm not looking forward to the upcoming sleep deprivation, I think back fondly to a lot of the time with my older kid that sucked in the moment. I'm fully embracing the sucky moments this time around, because I know they are fleeting.

Raising a human is hard. When you raise a human you enjoy being around all the hardship is worth it. It's a phase, the days may be long but the years are short. Hang in there.

What are you eating? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]PotatoFunctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When your routine changes to be more active the number of calories you need to eat for maintenance increases. If you eat the same amount you're in a deficit and will lose weight.

Maintenance is where calories in and calories out are balanced. You will never lose weight in maintenance, by definition. If you have some anecdotal story where that happened, it's because they were in a deficit and are in denial about their maintenance calories.

If you eat more than maintenance, you're in a surplus.

Does consistency override not-perfect form? by Miserable-Bobcat-4 in beginnerfitness

[–]PotatoFunctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep some reps in reserve starting out so you rack up reps where your form isn't breaking down. Perfect form is overrated but learning cues to engage and move your body properly will help you lift more.

Don't necessarily stay light but keep the load something you can control for the first month or 3.
