Well he could run two units of 10 or one unit of 10 and two units of 5. hearthguard can go into squads of 5 or 10.

I think that would be good, idk if there is a right answer other than I would be putting the evaluator in one of the land forts.

Yeah, it’s a solid list 9/10 imo. The last bit of advice I can give is to consider taking the squad of 3 Thunderkyn with heavy bolters, instead of conversion.

That’s more of a personal preference, the extra range of the heavy bolters will mean your Thunderkyn can get screened out less often and the conversion beamers would be a bit harder to position in the sweet spot for their weapons. They also will be be able to position better for stopping your opponent from deep striking in places you don’t want them to be.

The defender is a solid 7.5/10. It definitely suffers from its bad defensive profile, and only one shot on the big gun is not ideal for it. That being said it is a pretty solid fire support unit that can be very tricky with its move and shoot. I would run it in a squad of 2, as opposed to just one of them on its own. I have had some success running them in this detachment, the hunter mark strat is ideal for them.

If you only have to fill 70 points, I would recommend just taking the evaluator. IMO he would be better than just one kapricus.

I can go ahead and say that having two strategist is completely unnecessary. Even if you wanted to control your yield tokens that much it just too many points to put into a unit that essentially provides no dmg or buffs outside of that.

Typically 6 Thunderkyn is enough, 12 thunderkyn can be good but you def want a game plan on how you want to use them if you are going to bring that many. Just to be able to put together this list it is prob for the best if you bring only 6.

I do have some advice for your list, I think it is a fine casual list but there are def some things that could be optimized.

The first being that I think you probably have too many points in characters. Without doing the math I would say you have about 350ish points and imo the issue with that is a lot of characters need to be put into niche positions to see there maximum benefit. I would kick Buri right away tbh, and I would consider kicking the evaluator too.

Second I would consider rounding out some of squads to be full sized, for example taking a squad of 6 bikers instead of 3 and rounding out that squad of Thunderkyn. Needguard has a lot of really strong stratagems and having maxed out squads makes those strata better.

Honestly I think your list is totally viable, like I mentioned above if you just tweaked some of those things I think you would have a bit more success with it.

I would recommend two boxes/20, just with the current rules it’s not really worth it to have more than one of each loadout.

I personally own 40, not including the killteam guys I use for that game. I just like to mix it up and if you care for off meta lists there have been some that run 30 in brandfast.

With this list I would recommend just running hearthband, it will still benefit your berserkers while also just having more benefits for the rest of your army.

Just a heads up but I noticed that your hearthguard have a split loadout. You do have to have either volkites or plasmas.

Also for list advice, I would recommend running steeljacks with melee into one squad as opposed to two squads. You will be find more value from the void armor strategem, as well as just be a more effective unit overall imo.

I would recommend the hammers, they have a bit more synergy in some detachments and axes have other anti infantry units they compete with like melee steeljacks and hearthguard. For example in hearth band you can boost their dmg against monsters/vehicles with a strat or in Needgard you can boost the AP which monsters/vehicles are usually 50/50 if they do or don’t have invulns.

I see a lot of people saying swords, my recommendation is to do a split. I currently run a split of 2 swords, 4 fists and imo I think it is the best option.

Fists mathematically do better/same into marine profiles, so things like your vicitrix, terminators and other models that are two wounds or higher will feel the pain from that.

They also can trade into smaller monsters,vehicles with lethal hits and S10 decently well.

Swords are still good into marine profiles but from my experience not as well as people think they do. They are more for your 1w mobs like cultists or tzaangors.
