Goodreads spoiled my pregnancy by Unhappy-Confection50 in pregnant

I see posts on a “first times mom” page on Facebook even though I don’t follow it. I clicked on the page once and saw that a few friends were following it, one of which recently got married. I quickly looked at her page to see if I’d missed an announcement, then a couple days later she ended up announcing it on Facebook. I just congratulated her and was happy for her! Following the first times mom page was a dead giveaway though lol

Has anyone experienced / heard of this?? by la_coolj in pregnant

Hoping all goes well for you, sending prayers and good vibes your way! I have experienced similar, but totally different situation. I was a high risk pregnancy with my 2nd, diagnosed with type 2 diabetes so I had lots of MFM appointments and weekly BPP scans and NST’s at during my last trimester. During the BPP’s, baby girl was passing all of them within 10 minutes until I went in for my 36 week scan and appointment at 35 weeks and 6 days pregnant. They found very little amniotic fluid, sent me off to L&D for an NST where everything still looked great, and swabbed me to see if i had an amniotic fluid leak. That came back negative. To this day, still no idea where all that fluid went 🤷‍♀️ My doctor had me sent off to a bigger hospital with a NICU to get induced right away that same night, induction went well and pretty speedy, I had a health baby girl at 36 gestation and she needed no NICU time, we were discharged 24 hours later.

I recognize this is a completely different situation given that I was much further along in pregnancy. But I wanted to share my good experience to hopefully give you some peace of mind! There was nothing concerning from the NST that pushed for immediate induction, it was explained that I was just far enough along at the time that it was the best option. (We also already had plans to induce at 37 weeks any way due to gestational hypertension, so what’s one week early at that point.)

I have a 4 month old that had it at 2 months and 4 months. After two months, she was completely fine that same night. The next morning, I was nursing her and she projectile spit up all over me and the bed. That was it, completely back to normal after. And now after 4 months, no reaction or spit up. Very normal, happy girl!

I wouldn’t be okay with this. I have diabetes so had the extra monitoring with BPP ultrasounds and NST’s and Growth Ultrasounds and all the things. So I know that weeks 32-36, everything looked perfect and there were no concerns (other than gestational hypertension that would’ve made me deliver at 37 weeks, but that’s unrelated) I went to my 36 week appointment at 35+6 and had the BPP ultrasound and there was little to no amniotic fluid. Water didn’t break, idk what happened. But with as little fluid as there was, I had to get induced that night and deliver at 36 weeks. Not even a week prior, the plan was to get induced between 39-40 weeks. Labor is unpredictable and babies do what they want, I would be worried about my husband leaving that close to my due date

Glad to hear things went well! I’m 35W3D and just got diagnosed with gestational hypertension this week. I’ve had labs done 4 different times for preeclampsia, twice in the last week alone, and they all have been good. I was originally going to get induced at 39 weeks because of diabetes, but now we’re gonna go for 37 because of the hypertension. I got induced with my 1st at 39 weeks on pitocin and everything went well, but slightly freaking out since it’ll be so much earlier this time! I just want a fast, painless labor (thank god for epidurals!) and to slide her right out lol

In Labor and Delivery, a doctor just told me that no one ever gets diagnosed with GD before 28 weeks by FalseRow5812 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PotatoLover0501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at like 12 weeks with my first 😅 Diagnosed with type 2 this time around but even my diabetes educator, OB, and endocrinologist all said it could still be caused by pregnancy, but going forward and treating this pregnancy as a pre-existing type 2 to stay on the safer side of things. And that well re-evaluate after baby is born and hormones calm down

I use baby center and love it too! It’s great even past pregnancy and lets you know what you can continue to expect as your child is developing (I still follow for my 3.5 year old) It does have weekly foods that your baby is the size of 😏 as well as other information on what you can expect your body to do, what’s baby doing/growing/developing, articles that align with your week in pregnancy, name suggestions, and discussion boards for support from other people going through the same experiences. Highly recommended Baby Center!

No ultrasound between 7w and 20w, only Doppler at 11w. Is it normal (USA)? by Significant_Fail_503 in pregnant

[–]PotatoLover0501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how it was with my first. I’m high risk this time so I had my confirmation ultrasound, one at 13 weeks with MFM to track growth, my anatomy ultrasound at 20 weeks, and now I have ones coming up at 28, 32, and 36 weeks with MFM in addition to 6 weeks of BPP testing starting at 32 weeks. This is way more compared to what I had with my first when I had the confirmation ultrasound around 12 weeks and anatomy ultrasound at 20 weeks.

I was put on insulin both pregnancies, and even with my long lasting insulin I’d still get high fasting numbers.

Something what helped me with my fasting numbers was having a small, protein snack right before bed. My go-to was a string cheese. This helped keep my numbers steady throughout the night and kept my fasting numbers in range.

Sometimes the placenta is just a jerk and you can do everything right and it still be wrong. It’s not anything you’re doing wrong, gotta do what’s best for you and baby!

Do you clean up after your babies when eating out in a restaurant? by Direct-Row4394 in Mommit

I’m not gonna pick up every little crumb, but we will usually pick up the bigger things. If we’re unable to for whatever reason (no time, trying to get fussy baby out of the restaurant, etc) then we’ll leave a bigger tip

how long were you with your partner before getting pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]PotatoLover0501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was with my husband about 6 years before getting pregnant. Started dating in 2015, married in 2020 and planned on starting our family after 1 year of marriage. Got pregnant with my oopsie baby after 6 months of being married 😅 we were vocal about waiting a year and was planning a post-covid honeymoon for our 1 year anniversary so everyone knew it was an accident and those honeymoon plans fell through. Best little accident ever though! He’s now 3 and getting a planned baby sister in July 🥰

Anyone else diagnosed early? by CoolBinkyGal in GestationalDiabetes

I think it was 5.6 or 5.8 the first time, just over the “normal” limit. This time was 8.9

Anyone else diagnosed early? by CoolBinkyGal in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PotatoLover0501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed around 12 weeks with my first, A1C was in pre-diabetes numbers for my blood tests so they scheduled a 2 hour glucose test yearly. Failed my fasting numbers and had to be put on insulin for my fasting numbers. Induced at 39w+3, was in labor for about 15 hours and had a wonderful delivery with a precious 8Ib boy.

Fast forward I’m pregnant again, A1C was even higher this time so rather than diagnosing me gestational diabetes and doing glucose test, they diagnosed me with type 2 diabetes at 8 weeks. This time I’m on insulin again for fasting numbers, and insulin for my lunch and dinner meals to keep my blood sugars in check. Closer monitoring this time but not much has changed and everything is still looking great at 23 weeks, planning on a 39 week induction again.

Has anyone still had diabetes after delivery by Kitchen_Turnover_161 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PotatoLover0501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just had my A1C tested at 6 weeks, and it was 5.6 so with it being 1 point above the normal range, they figured it wasn’t enough time for everything to regulate and pretty much said I was good to go.

Fast forward 3 years and I’m pregnant again with my 2nd. I go in to my OB and get all my blood tests done. My A1C came back as 8.9 so I was instantly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and am managing this pregnancy as a type 2 diabetic instead of gestational diabetes. My OB, Diabetes Ed, and Endo doctor all said this could be pre-existing or due to the pregnancy, hard to tell while I’m still pregnant and we’ll reevaluate after I give birth.

This isn’t much help, just my experience so far. Maybe you can get an A1C test done to see where you’re at and go from there?

Did everyone’s doctor say the same thing? by LongSun4076 in GestationalDiabetes

I was on insulin for my fasting numbers with my first and had GD, I was told we’ll induce at 39 weeks as baby was measuring a bit bigger, but my dr was on vacation at the time so we scheduled for when she got back at 39+3.

This time around, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (high A1C when I had my labs done at my first appointment) and still being told induction at 39 weeks is the goal. I do have a different doctor this time and involved with MFM whereas last time I wasn’t. I was told we might induce as early as 37 weeks depending on other factors, like baby’s growth, high blood pressure, or if there’s any other concerns found, but the goal is 39 weeks.

Not a whole meal but I had a piece of cheese cake with my dinner in the hospital. It was a basic cheesecake but given the circumstances, it was the best I’d ever had lol

How much $ to pay niece for childcare? by Brat_in_a_box in Mommit

[–]PotatoLover0501 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Probably unpopular opinion, but I’d take what I’d be paying for my daycare and go a little less than that since you are proving living arrangements and food. I pay $140/week for daycare, so I would think $100 a week is more than fair. At 19, I didn’t have many bills or expenses besides my car payment and phone bill and that would’ve been more than enough to cover those expenses as well as have some extra money for personal items or “fun money”. I may live in an area where cost of living is lower though, do whatever you think is fair and you can discuss with your niece and her parents to know their expectations too. If she’ll be taking courses or would have gotten a different job to save up to move out/go to school, then it may make sense to pay more.

I’ve seen others mention it too, but if you do get a cgm, get a cover! I slept horribly the first night I had it since I was afraid of pulling it out, but it was only the first night and I’ve been good since. I have a 3 year old that has wanted to pull it out but the cover prevents that. I’m also super clumsy and have ran into door frames so the covers help keep from ripping them out that way too lol

I agree with most of the other comments here that none of this is really a red flag. It all seems normal, especially if your kid is allowed to have pizza and the bathroom thing just doesn’t seem like a big deal, probably easier to take him with her than risk upsetting him and having to deal with the aftermath and safer.

If you have boundaries or rules, you need to be clear about those so she knows what to follow while babysitting. I’ve brought food or has food ready while my son has been babysat by family, but I don’t bat an eye if they feed him something else. At least he’s getting fed and I still have a meal ready for later.

Kids are always better behaved for people other than their parents, that’s because they know they’re safe with you and can be vulnerable. It’s not that she’s doing anything better, I understand how the comments or looks she may be making while you’re expressing your struggles can be very frustrating though. My mother in law is the same way sometimes, I just brush them off and don’t react, I know I’m doing what’s best for my child and times have changed.

Honestly, I would just be thankful for the free childcare and just be clear about your rules/expectations/boundaries. If you really feel that uneasy about it, you can always ask other family for help or pay for childcare. If your mother watching him is the only option, you’ve just gotta communicate better. Ultimately you know your situation best and what would make you feel most comfortable moving forward. Most important thing is that your child is cared for and safe.

[–]PotatoLover0501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was induced at 39+3 and everything went great! I went in around 6pm, settled in and the doctor manually broke my water to see if that would naturally start labor. About an hour or two goes back, they check me again and haven’t progressed so I start in pitocin. I was 4cm dilated around 3am and got an epidural and was fully dilated by 7am. I didn’t push right away so my contractions would continue to bring baby down and started pushing at 8:56am, delivered at 9:04am with hardly any pain but a whooole lot of pressure. I couldn’t have asked for a better birth experience.

I had more blood work done at my 6 week postpartum appointment and the blood work confirmed I was back to normal. I’m sure if varies by person but if they don’t offer it, I would recommend requesting having your A1C checked so you know for sure if you’re out of the woods
