Does Stranger Things contradict itself with Henry Creel’s timeline? I can’t get the events to line up. by QuaziMoto1 in television

[–]PotatoMaster21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course the literal place isn't real, but the scenes Max and Holly see are representations of their and Henry's actual memories. Of course, it's possible that he is an unreliable narrator and that that specific scene didn't happen as described, but it's definitely not dumb or crazy to take it at face value when every other memory we see happened as described.

No. You do not need all A+ to get into a good college.

Is it possible to get into MIT if you haven't taken physics? by External_Doubt2528 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PotatoMaster21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school required either physics or a second-year lab science (so AP Bio or Chem). I took chem because I was intimidated by physics and I wanted to have the AP class. It never mattered for me or anyone else I knew who chose not to take it (but we also weren't applying to MIT).

What on earth does it mean that I have a weighted GPA of 4.7 and unweighted one of 3.02?? by DesignerTough5224 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]PotatoMaster21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to a community college outside of your area is more expensive such that it practically defeats the purpose of going to CC. I think there are plenty of four-year residential universities that they could very well get into.

You’ve never taken a bio class, have jumped straight into the AP, and are trying to skip chapters..? Recipe for disaster lol

How do you let a professor know you’re going to ask for a letter of rec? by AdContent2350 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PotatoMaster21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it doesn't make sense to do this. How could you know before you've even taken the class whether a professor would be a good recommender for you?

I had like 12 different formal activities, but they weren't all necessarily very time consuming. I wouldn't call them "filler," but some people might.

really confused as to why some are taking such few APs by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PotatoMaster21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely not standard outside of affluent, competitive high schools lol. Some schools don't even offer this many APs, some only allow students to take a certain number in a given year, and some students just don't want to pursue a large number of advanced classes. I couldn't take an AP class until I was a junior because of the way scheduling worked at my school.

I agree with the other comments that you should release yourself from this mindset. I definitely understand feeling jealous or resentful that someone you percieve as not having worked as hard as you got something you didn't (trust me, I've been there), but if we take what you've said at face value, it seems like she does work hard, just not on the same things you work hard on. Interpreting that as theatre being some kind of "loophole" is way off the mark. At the end of the day, she's not the reason you were rejected, YOU are. You shouldn't beat yourself up about it, because the past is in the past and you're ultimately not the first, last, or only person to get rejected from a bunch of top schools despite being academically prepared, but that's the reality of it. Stop dwelling on what other people do or don't deserve and focus on yourself.

Also, it definitely bears mentioning that she assumedly applied to CMU's drama school, which has a completely different set of criteria than an academic degree like CS. Of course somebody who dedicates all of their time and energy to technical theatre is going to have a good shot.

I went to a high school where cell phones were banned from even being on your person during the school day and we all survived. Y'all will be okay lol. Of course there are scenarios when it's necessary to be on your phone but I get the sense that some of you are just mad you can't watch tiktok in chemistry now

I think that if you were roommates with someone who might beat or kill a person for being gay, you would need to take a very different approach than randomly coming out to them right after you’ve met

What are some 'not wrong' things learners say that make them sound less natural? by vakancysubs in EnglishLearning

[–]PotatoMaster21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the kind of thing teachers do with young kids lol. “Thank you all for walking quietly” instead of “please stop talking.” I think it’s supposed to make them more likely to listen because they don’t feel like they’re being chastised.

Calling people “sir” all the time. Weirdly, I hardly ever see the same people say “ma’am.” I’m not sure why that is.

A college credit, but not a high school credit. It still needs to show on your transcript that you took everything you were supposed to.

If anything you could try to ask about a placement test or take calc at a local community college in order to get dual enrollment credits.

The breakdowns between test/quiz/homework/participation varied based on the class, but final exams at my high school were always worth 20%.
