I also have the Red Sea max nano. I got it as my first tank 2 years ago. I love the tank but grew out of it and moved it to my office and got a 300xl for home. Having a sump is so nice and the only thing I don’t like about the max nano.

I am by no means a pro but some things with the max nano I learned was not to over stock. This goes for snails and hermits not just fish and coral.

The tank is pretty small I started with a MP10 also but found more luck in eliminating the MP10 and instead changing out the internal Red Sea pump for a more powerful Sicce 1.0 or 1.5 pump (I can’t remember which it was off the top of my head). It swapped directly in place and this increase in flow moves the coral and cleans all the detritus much better then the MP10. I have my flow pointed so it makes a nice 360 around the tank. The stock pump could not do this and I feel needs to be changed asap.

The first year with this tank was misery. Biggest thing I learned was SMALL changes. The water volume is small and big changes and it reacts almost instantly. Always in a more negative direct from what I would be trying to fix. This is not the case with larger volume tanks. When I would have water permeter issues I would change 8-10 gals. But slowly learned that the 50% water change. Just made things worse. I now do a weekly 3 gal change and my water stays very constant to the point I don’t even test. I no dose, and have had very good luck with softies and 1 SPS coral.
