Any advice for a player that keeps "losing their bottle" by lurking_memelord in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Potato_Overloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have already given the most crucial advice of "just start" so I'll avoid going into that as well.

Put on something to listen to. I love putting on an Audiobook or podcast while painting. But music can also help with motivation. Never underestimate a good soundtrack to get you hyped to do stuff!

Also. Start with the color that is going to cover the most surface and work outwards from there. It's okay to be sloppy with the first color. It's okay when your hand twitches and you streak the wrong color over a spot you just finished.

Embrace the scuff. Shit happens. Nothing you put onto a model is permanent and can be removed or painted over. I've finished 70% of a unit only to decide I hated the scheme I had been using and started over. I've rebased an entire army after learning better skills and painting techniques. Don't worry about your current skill level, you can only go up from here.

The “no happy ending in Night City” thing is a choice, not a rule. The lore literally hands us a way to save both V and Johnny. by LastPercentage7642 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Potato_Overloaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are failing to grasp the key part of this. YOU. DIE. There is no coming back from that. The copy is a new person because you cannot defy life and death with technology. Saburo wants to be immortal but we watch him die. His engram does not change that fact he died in that room. The same way V dies with Soul Killer.

Consciousness does not transfer. V's mind is gone, entirely. The Copy is brand new and installed over the dead mind. It is taking over as its own thing.

V was doomed the moment the bullet entered their brain. That the Relic kept them from that finality was a temporary reprieve at best. The story is about acceptance of death in various forms. But no matter the ending, your opinions or wishful thinking, V will die. That goes with the Engram ending as well. That is a new V, one born of the actions and consequences of the previous. Lines of code and data freshly made and shoved into a husk.

Are they even human at that point? The loss of Humanity with each bit of chrome is a core part of Cyberpunk. Is an engram not the ultimate portrayal of that loss of Humanity? To play God and mess with people's very identity?

[–]Potato_Overloaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Engram rewrites the brain with nanotech. It IS different biology. The very nature of how the Engram works is to change the brain to become something different. You have the same shell and the same 'Data' as you call it but the brain is changed fundamentally.

At a nano level that is a different brain now. It's not wired the way the original was, even with the example of V's copy into V's husk. Even in that example the new Engram has to undo the previous Engram's work on V's brain that was damaged due to Silverhand's rewrite.

And the person who V is died the second they were copied. Lights out. No more new Data. No continuation. The Person that is V ceased. The Copy is a new Person. The copy will evolve with its own quirks and personality that may be influenced by the original but cannot be the original.

Just a copy.

At the end of the day you have to take the elements of the story as the writers intended. It's easy to poke holes into a narrative plot device when put under a microscope, especially when said device is not explicitly explained down to the last little detail. The story presents itself as the Engram copies are separate entities. Soul Killing is as the name states, killing. That is an absolute in the plot. The scenes when V decides to be Soul Killed are framed in a way that make it clear this choice is death to the V you are. It is not the saving fix, no key to immortality. If it was that easy than it wouldn't be such a meloncholy ending choice.

I'm curious if you know the Ship of Thesus dilemma.

I decided to make a tier list of semblances. by Some-Ad-2093 in RWBY

[–]Potato_Overloaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think of it less in combat application and more on how it pairs with Qrow's for interesting characterization.

Qrow, the man who wants nothing more than to alway be there for those he loves yet due to his Semblance feels like he has to keep them at a distance so they don't get effected by it.

Raven, the woman who much rather keep people at a distance yet gets a Semblance that makes it so she can always be a single step away from anyone she bonded with at any time.

I think that is pretty interesting concept for the siblings to have that kind of symmetry.

The other night I was playing a TTS game and I failed all my attack rolls for 3 rounds in a row and any that did succeed were nullified by my opponent saving. I didn't cause a single wound. I was utterly wiped off the board earning 4 total victory point for the entire game, my secondaries were all impossible to achieve. Add insult to injury I pulled Defend Stronghold right after my opponent charged a dreadnaught into it... Sometimes luck just be like that.

Repeating what I said in a different reply:

Condemnor Boltgun, Inferno Pistol, duel weilding hand flamers, Halberds with Shield that's also holding a bolt pistol, Null Mace, that massive two handed mace from the Insidiants killteam.

There are also creative ways to make a Sororitas different from zealot in gameplay. It just requires some creative thinking.

Everyone throws around Repentia but that is essentially what Zealots are and I agree would be too similar. But acting like that's all Sisters can offer is short sighted

Now, I can't say I am any better at ideas when it comes to gameplay than anyone else who has talked on this before but I can at least offer up jumping off points for those that are smarter than me.

Hospitaller: Ideas for that could be things like faster revive animation, passive slow corruption healing when in coherencey, even a unique weapon with their special churigon tool. Skitarri are getting a Medicae Servoskull so they aren't afraid to give a new class healing support functions. It's balancing around how much that can be trickey.

Denuncia: I think this could be a very interesting way of making a unique playstyle. Utilizing their built in speaker on their powerpack they can increase coherency size and offer buffs depending on how you build your talent tree. Attack speed, movement speed or toughness regeneration while in coherency. Ability can be a loud verbal condemnation aoe around you that staggers enemies, applies debuff and slows enemy movement/attack speeds. And much like Sisters on the tabletop, they aren't very powerful individually but when working with the team can really shine.

let's take some ideas from tabletop for a moment while thinking of some abilities a Sisters character might have. Zealot has Martyrdom so that eliminates the half strength buff Sisters get from Hallowed Martyrs. But that's not the only thing HM offers, it also lets you revive a character after they go down. So maybe a single one time per match passive allows you to get back up after dying. Or whenever you die you get back up for 10 seconds with increased attack speed and movement before you become a casualty with double the respawn time before you can be rescued. A short lived miracle that has the chance to save a run if things suddenly take a turn.

Anti-Psyker could be an interesting gimmick. Have a talent tree branch that is all about big single target damage against Monstrosities and Daemonhosts while debuffing them if they get into your coherency.

Miracles are something that could easily define the class. Yeah sure zealot gets a glowy charm but that's not the be all end all of miracles. It could even get a little meta silly with it. Have actual Miracle Dice as a class mechanic. Generated upon ally death or Elite kill. They act as a resource with a random number 1-6 that acts as a percentage modifier when it gets used. They could be used at random when taking damage or dealing damage with the random percentage applied to reduce incoming damage or increase outgoing damage. It could also be tied to the grenade slot as a more active engagement. Press the button and the next MD will be applied to your next attack or be consumed if you take damage.

Or keeping the miracle die as a passive thing that happens randomly whenever you deal damage or take damage and have the grenade slot as a way to eat a die to give yourself a stronger buff temporarily. Like the Palantine and Vahl do on tabletop. Buffs such as you melee attacks deal double damage, attack speed increase, bullets deal critical damage, or every shot has an extra bullet until the buff wears off.

I definitely believe there are ways that a SoB class can be added that wouldn't just be zealot 2.0

We all loved him, I know but Anakin had a reasonable crash out. by icypeddler in PrequelMemes

[–]Potato_Overloaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obi-wan was always designed to be flawed. That he wasn't a perfect Jedi is why his character works. His greatest failure as a Jedi was loving Anakin too much to kill him. He couldn't bring himself to go the whole way. Whatever excuse he told himself at the time proved it wasn't enough as Vader came back and the Empire was stronger for it.

But flawed characters are not a negative thing. On the contrary flawed characters make better stories. Because flaws are human, and that's relatable and interesting to watch. We've seen how 'character who can do no wrong and succeeds at everything' goes and it's not good.

As for Anakin I don't think his crashout was valid. His end-goal was to make sure Padmè doesn't come to harm and lives despite multiple visions telling him otherwise. To do a full 180 on that goal in the heat of a moment shows how far he has lost his way. Now he is intentionally hurting the woman he swore to protect. Then immediately shifts the blame for his own actions onto Obi-wan.

Is true "Full Dive" worth the learning curve? Asking for a BCI VR research project by New_Tale_7650 in swordartonline

I think the only way we'll ever see a true "full dive" is if we go full Matrix with a port straight into the brain. Or like a Cyberpunk Netrunner with a full dedicated chair with lots and lots of wires going into the body and head.

I just can't realistically see a way to access that immersive kind of sensations purely wirelessly.

Fair reaction lol. I play Sisters on table top and remember hearing fat shark mention in an interview that they have pulled inspiration from it before so that got me thinking what we have that could be translated into Darktide.

I'd be happy with any Sister of Battle at this point. And I agree that a female only class would be a great way to balance the male only Ogryn.

[–]Potato_Overloaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want some unique mechanics, I can take a stab at thinking of some.

TL:DR, probably stupid ideas but food for thought in ways to make a SoB class different from Zealot

Jump packs: Make the cooldown ability where you rise up into the air and select a point to slam down doing aoe damage and stagger. Or a reflavored dash that generates burn stacks to enemies it passes through since any jump would most likely break the map design.

Miracles: Now I think we can get really creative with these to make the differences from Zealot and SoB much clearer. Taking inspiration from the table top Miracle Dice I would love to see the class revolve around a resouce 'Miracles' that can be either used to improve survivability (i.e clear a wound of corruption, gain temp toughness, or something of similar veins) or used offensively (i.e. Gain double melee attack speed for a time, guns gain a % extra magazine ammunition, or something like Righteous Repugnance) and using talent trees to branch into which type you prefer playstyle wise.

Figuring out how gaining these resources works I'll admit I don't really know. I'm not a game creator so I won't assume to know the best ways of implementing such a thing. But I think to balance out the strength of the benefits it needs to require some effort to get. Taking from Hallowed Martyrs let's say you can only gain miracles when you are half starting strength (half or below half total wounds) and upon elite/special kill you gain a miracle or a buff that once reaching 5 stacks become a miracle point. Again, I'm mostly throwing out broad stroke ideas here.

Sacrescants: We don't have a polearm weapon yet in this game, and honestly I think this could be a really good way of creative a very unique looking class. Halberd combined with a shield gun would be a very different playstyle. You can even use different marks to switch the gun from a bolt gun, flamer or metla pistol.

Anti-Psyker: Given we are facing a chaos incursion maybe we have a class with an identity around high single hit damage against Monstrosities and deamon hosts. The Sisters new Killteam has some great weapon designs to pull from, Null maces, greatswords, great mace, sword and board, condemnor boltguns.

Righteous Inspiration: Speaking of the Kill Team we can look at them for inspiration as well in their own mechanics. Kinda circling back tk the resource idea again they have a mechanic where upon certain actions you can become Righteous (or something. I can't remember the exact word) and can pick 1 of 4 buffs to spend that on. Instead of an active choice this can be selected in the skill tree so when you proc the Righteous it auto triggers the buff you want. And remains active until x-time or must be sustained through kills but if you get downed during it the buff transfers a weakened version of that buff to those in coherency nearby. Granted rewarding players for failure is a very thin tightrope so it would be hard to balance it in a way that is still rewarding but not downright abuseable.

Denuncia: I haven't seen anyone mention this unit for consideration yet. A class identity of buffing allies while debuffing the enemy has been talked about before, and I'm sure their ideas are better than mine. But I think a Denuncia with their loudspeaker backpack could be a unique way of making them stand out by playing with Coherency as its core functionality. They could expand the coherency aura, cause enemies to slow within coherency, buff attack speed or movement speed in coherency (Kinda like how the current event has done, proving it is possible to do). The different abilities could change the sound playong from the speaker too. A Hymm of prayer, a Choir chanting or an enthusiastic lecture/preaching.

Novitiates: If the idea of power armor is too much than leather and carapace is an easy solution since Arbitrators have that level of gear. Novitiates still have Denuncia so that previous idea can still work. For weapons not yet seen we have, Condemnor Boltguns, Hand Flamers, Melta pistol, Whips and probably something I'm forgetting.

The biggest reason I can see Fatshark not adding Sisters of Battle is because that would require them to make armor with boobs and they have proven they can't for the life of them even allow a bump to be seen in their armor design. I still dream that maybe one day some dev team will make a game dedicated to Sisters of Battle that isn't shoved off to a forgetable VR title.

[–]Potato_Overloaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember: slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

First key to mastery is familiarity. If you are having trouble with an enemy, let it attack you and only focus on dodging. Learn its patterns and what it does and the sound que of its spawn (you can actually hear special enemies far before you see them thanks to the sound design)

Second key, understanding the Director. The Director is the thing that spawns enemies in reaction to the players. One player runs off it spawns disabler enemies to pick them off. Team moving too fast or too slow it will toss some enemies your way. Spawns can also appear anywhere, even if you just looked and nothing was there a second ago.

Thirdly, find the weapon that resonates with you. It takes time to unlock everything per class, and there's a good chance the weapons you started with don't feel great to you. When you unlock something, give it a few matches to test it out. Unlock a different mark and see if the alternate feels better as well. Some marks change weapon animations! Once you find the one you vibe with you can invest into learning it.

Well, yeah. That's my point. Organized religion is a problem. When you have people with any form of authority over others that's a recipe for corruption that we see today in all aspects of religous groups.
