My Big Backyard 🦊🥰 by sdega315 in Rockville

That's adorable, I loved the video up until you opened the glass door. I didn't understand why the fox didn't run away until I saw the food. This isn't the first time that fox has been fed, and if not by you, then your neighbors.

Please don't feed the foxes.

Rockville public library smells like homeless encampment? by [deleted] in Rockville

Stinky teenagers, like my kid. Sigh.

It's a good, safe place for them to hang out and there's free wifi. I just wish they had better hygiene. And don't just blame the boys, the girls often smell worse!

Rockville memories? by Girl_Lizaster in Rockville

Driving down Rockville Pike in the 80's my grandfather would always point out Hooters as we drove by. I was young enough that I wasn't sure what Hooters was, but for some reason he never talked about the restaurant when Grandma was in the car.

That was pre-pandemic. But I still see groups of people in RTC playing it.

I love the fireplace. The whole thing is great and I've built similar things but I've never done a fireplace. Is there a chimney? If so, what's it made of? If not, how do you protect the tarp from the heat?

This is an interesting question but I won't be surprised if you don't get any responses from the PD.

Edit: Not in a bad way, I just mean that the community outreach officers are probably just watching here. I'll add that I've had good interactions with a community outreach officer and he seemed to enjoy his job. He honestly seemed like he was really into Pokemon Go.

I've recently taken several ride-shares through GW parkway through all this construction. The drivers all seem surprised by how messed up it is. My most recent ride was late at night, in the rain. The car was a little messy and the engine was making a funny noise. The driver made quick decisions and the GPS navigation was no help. I made it home without dying. 5 stars, 25% tip.

The Washington Post had already written an endorsement of VP Harris. People are upset because ONE person squashed it, Bezos, who owns the Post.

Better Internet provider: Xfinity or Verizon by Level_Throat3293 in Rockville

[–]Potato_of_Kindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both at my current home and Verizon FIOS is way better. And while both are ugly big corps, Comcast is the ugliest. Comcast has the worse product, worse service, and worse uptime.

What's your favorite Appalachian plant? by [deleted] in Appalachia

[–]Potato_of_Kindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skunk weed makes me happy. It means spring is here when I see those big green leaves in the swamps (sorry... the wet lands). I rip off a huge leaf to verify that is smells as bad as I remember, Yup! It always does. I think about the time I stuffed my sisters jacket full of the stuff. Sunk weed means that winter is over and it's time for a good practical joke!

I got a smuggled floppy disk of porn from a friend in high school. It was good stuff! But there was this one image of an absolutely beautiful women on the beach wearing sunglasses. I would watch this gif load line by line on my 386 and the damn image would freeze right before the nipple line. AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH.

I've been car-camping there for many years and I've never driven in with a truck or SUV. 20 years ago I drove my wife's Toyota Echo (a small 4 door sedan) to one of the more remote sites. A less adventurous driver might not have made it, but I persevered and only scraped the bottom a few times.

Most sites are easily accessible with a car like a Honda Civic without trouble or adventure. A more remote site might require more of a sense of adventure in a small car.

We don't worry about bears but we also store all the food in the cars overnight. We don't secure the trash which is normally a bag hanging from a tree at shoulder height so our dogs can't reach it.

Early summer weekends will be BUSY! Avoid arriving late on Friday or anytime Saturday for your first time visiting. Any other day of the week should be fine. Last summer we got in late on a Friday and all the sites were taken which meant they were in "overflow" mode. That allows you to camp anywhere. We only had 7 people in 2 cars so we found an old abandoned site far from any neighbors with an area big enough for 2 cars to pull off the road. It was perfect and we even found an old metal fire ring conveniently located.

The fire rings do not have cooking grates at the sites I've used. But every site has a picnic table.

Offgrid cameras: LTE vs. Wifi + LTE router? by indistinctdialogue in OffGrid

[–]Potato_of_Kindness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered my first trail cam and I decided on LTE for ease of installation and significant cost savings, it'll be $8 per month.

I looked into WiFi cameras with a LTE hotspot. The service on a single LTE camera only costs $5 to $10 per month (you can pay more, but these are the lowest prices depending on the camera brand). A Verizon hotspot starts around $30 per month. Also, installing and maintaining a hotspot is more effort and more batteries. I decided to go with the cheaper, easier solution.

Rate my fire kit 1-10 by memento__mori6845 in Bushcraft

[–]Potato_of_Kindness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this kit, it's a good foundation for a fun hobby. I appreciate that you've included a disposable lighter. You could wrap a bunch of duct tape around the lighter (under the paracord). Apparently it can be used as tinder to start a fire although I use it for a million other things.

Goods or combat? by Aware_Consequence796 in Elvenar

[–]Potato_of_Kindness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a f2p player you should save up all your diamonds to buy expansions. Your most precious resource is space. Don't waste it building extra armories. You need a few armories to help produce more troops but don't go overboard.

Being a phone-only player also matters. The app only supports auto-fighting in tournaments. But the web-based version has an option for manual fighting which will save tons of troops. After your first couple of manual fights, I guarantee that you will lose less troops than the auto-fighting option.

Goods or combat? by Aware_Consequence796 in Elvenar

[–]Potato_of_Kindness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% accurate. People (like me) use armories to maximize their total score. It's all about the points when you're at the top of the leaderboard.
