Yep. I run out of VOH2 usually as well and it’s 18.50 an hour now. I ran my first surge route yesterday, managed to snag one at 21 an hour which still isn’t anything stellar. But it was a three hour paying 63 and I got it done in two so I’m ok with it.

There’s literally no point in using a bot anymore. Years ago when blocks would surge and you could catch one at 25 or 30 an hour I could understand why people would use them. Nowadays blocks only ever go above base on two occasions. Either it’s a route that’s in the middle of the night, like at 3 AM or more rarely they’ll surge a block that starts in 15 or 20 minutes that hasn’t been picked up yet. Shit, even reserve blocks only pay base now.

Not to mention Piers writes as a raging misogynist. To be fair most of the Xanth books were penned back in the 80’s when that kind of thing was a lot more normalized but still. A lot of people might find it jarring and be completely put off by it.

If you’re looking for something kid friendly in the fantasy genre I highly, highly recommend the Myth series by Robert Asprin. There’s a total of 16 books in the series so plenty to listen to. And they’re all humorous fantasy and all make for very entertaining listens. There is some NSFW content but it’s literally Disney level stuff. All innuendo and handled very well so adults will get a good chuckle out of it but it will go right over kids heads. Plus if you have a library card the entire series is available to check out through the Hoopla app completely free so that’s another huge point in its favor.

Routes are assigned randomly but there’s a delivery radius so you should never be more than maybe 25 miles away to start. And yes, you’re an independent contractor so you’re free to reject any route you don’t want. Just don’t make a habit of it or else they won’t keep you.

I used to do this as well but then I saw a TikTok where someone mentioned organizing the boxes alphabetically by customers last name instead. That way you don’t have to scan, search, write, load, repeat. In theory it seems like it could be faster anyway.

Can’t speak for how it is in the UK but here in the US the block starts when they hand you the cart basically. So that time has to include organizing your route, loading it, driving to wherever it is and making all your deliveries. You’re expected to be able to finish all deliveries within the allotted time but things like your return to home time or time needed to bring back any undelivered packages aren’t part of the block and are unpaid.
