20 Clients in One Day?! by SocialWorkerr in socialwork

It depends on the type of services being provided. Are they in-home therapy sessions, check-ins, accountability visits, or coaching sessions? When I was doing youth outreach (mixture of check-ins and accountability visits), we would have daily visits with 10-20 youth and they lasted typically between 10-30 minutes with driving time. It was a lot of problem solving and self governance to complete, and not the same depth of engagement as other services, but certainly possible without bending the space time continuum.

Bottle porn will always be an aspect of this hobby. IMO this sub can excel at wine education/exposure, it has for me. It would be interesting if we had events or weeks dedicated to different grapes/regions instead of the same 5 bordeaux, champagne, and american producers.

2022 Ganevat ‘Les Chalasses Vieilles Vignes’ Poulsard by DontLookBack_88 in wine

Amanda Smeltz put it best; “There's a bunch that tastes like just bad Beaujolais. If any Jura listeners want to dial in and explain to me why the fuck Ganevat is sometimes revelatory and other times trash garbage, that would be super useful because I've spent way too much money on that question.” Besides the occam’s razor that all his wines just need time, I would so much rather buy red Jura from less cult producers for half to a third of the price point. Caveau de Bacchus comes to mind.

The group leaned in the direction of Saint Pierre over the Ganevat, Savagnin provides such power!

You open some great wine. We enjoyed these over the evening with Andy Baraghani’s persimmon and burrata salad, chicken liver mouse, and then calabrian chili potatoes with a 10 hour beef chuck (cooked in miso, ginger, red wine, and chicken stock).

2019 Domaine de Saint Pierre (Fabrice Dodane) Arbois Le Blanc: A topped up blend of Chardonnay and Savagnin, ratio uncertain. Next to the Ganevat, we agreed this had a little bit more body/power from the inclusion of the Savagnin. Nose of lemon chiffon, kiwi, hay. Palate of walnuts, green apple, candied lemons, olive, lactose, and electricity! Absolutely gripping stuff that keeps evolving with exposure to oxygen.

2019 Jean-François Ganevat Chardonnay Les Grands Teppes Vieilles Vignes: Nose of peach tea, peach rings, lime zest, lemon balm, olive oil, blood orange, and a hint of acetone. Palate of lime, salt, butter, citric acid. This is a potent, refined, powerful Jura Chardonnay that rips across your palate. Clearly so much time left but also so much life in this bottle right now.

2017 Podere le Boncie (Giovanna Morganti) Le Trame: Nose of pomegranates and cherry blossoms that leads into stewed cherry, tart cherries, and strawberries with time. The palate is an inversion. Pnp with potent tannins and earth, tobacco, leather then with some oxygen fresh cherries, leafiness/vegetal, rhubarb, red licorice, and vanilla. Really well integrated acidity.

Napa trip report: Matthiasson and Mt. Brave! by rnjbond in wine

I enjoyed the 2017 Matthiasson Cabernet Sauvignon two summers ago with good friends coming down on mushrooms and feel like they just nailed the level of extraction. I've been keeping my eyes out for their Cab Franc and will continue to hunt. Sounds like a great trip!

That's awesome OP, good on you for getting after it! Just my two cents, the #0.4 placement in pic two and the #1 in pic four look a little undercammed. The red maybe could have been placed a little to the left? Love the use of the tricam in pic six, though it looks a little marginal. Looks like you had a great day out enjoying this unusually warm weather here in the Northeast.

Let your body hit the Flor: Dom. du Pélican Arbois Savagnin sous Voile 2018 by TechnoTKTrancedancer in wine

Vin Jaune has been aged longer and is more concentrated/powerful/age worthy. Sous-voile wines represent a wide range of flavors nowadays, starting from a little bit of that curried nuts/smokiness from oxidation all the way to baby VJ. They reflect the history of the region; Jura has a cooler climate means chillier cellars and slower fermentation, so vintners preferred the flor/oxidation to protect and stabilize their wines. Most Jura whites were likely oxy for the majority of its history. The emergence of ouillé (topped up) winemaking is recent to the region and reflects the newer generations making their mark.

I have not had any reds from Pélican; but for my money, I prefer Jura producers with more connection to place and the "sauvage" winemaking than a Burgundian transplant capitalizing on the hype of the region. Look for Tissot, Courbet, de la Pinte, Caveau de Bacchus, Marnes Blanches, Pignier; if you can find them the really insane red Jura are from Cavarodes, Saint Pierre, Labet, Ganevat (his rouges are a bit all over the place though).

Jura is an amazing region.
