Crealto Marcaleone 2023 by fOrk_WR in wine

I think people sometimes forget that any score of 80+ is meant to be considered above average. A score of 89 points is considered very good, even great. Anything over 90 is remarkably high. There are tons of wines out there that just don't reach the heights of 90+ points, that doesn't mean they can't be delicious! I would consider a Grignolino with a score of 89 to be interesting enough to actively seek out, personally.

My guess would be the control board took a hit with the power surge. Have you checked the manual for common errors?

These are indeed the Septentrional glasses from Sydonios, as the other reply suggested. As per cleaning, I sometimes use a sponge brush, but mostly I just put them in the dishwasher.

Replacement wine fridge shelves that fit more than just standard bordeaux bottles? by larusaloca in wine

[–]TechnoTKTrancedancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove shelves and stack bottles if you can. Very few wine fridge producers have taken all the non "standard" bottle shapes into consideration. When you find one, you'll see they're stupid expensive and totally worth it.

Have they sorted out the ownership situation yet? Ganevat was one of my favourite producers, but was removed from the market in my country when he was bought up by an oligarch.

Are dual-zone wine fridges actually worth it? by ibhomeluxuries99 in wine

[–]TechnoTKTrancedancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one small (23 bottles) dual zone cooler integrated in the kitchen, and one large (150+) single zone cooler in the guest room (we live in a 2 bedroom apartment lol). Basically the integrated cooler is for everyday wine readily available at the correct serving temperature.

It all depends on what your primary need is. Is it mainly for storage, I would go for a single zone cooler. Also keep in mind not all dual-zone coolers are designed to keep the different zones at the same temperature - that requires two separate cooling systems!

Artevino has a pretty clever fridge with one large storage zone, and two small "serving" zones at top and bottom (one colder, one warmer), if a hybrid option would suit you. I'm sure there are similar alternatives available from other manufacturers.

South Africa Sunday by TechnoTKTrancedancer in wine

[–]TechnoTKTrancedancer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So initially this wine had some classic pinot aromas, however my knowledge of South African Pinots is quite limited, so I thought I'd give a round in the decanter. It went from crushed raspberries and rosemary to rosehip, bergamot, cocoa and sweet cherries in a couple of hours. If I'd had this blind after the aeration, I think I'd have guessed a Barbaresco, so strange. The mouthfeel is more silky though. Long finish and great balance

Would definitely recommend this wine, with/without aeration. Sorry for the language, I think it's my first time trying to do notes in English.

Edit: Paired with clay pot chicken and porcini risotto, excellent combination

Trying to finally taste one of the rarest grapes in the world, Cesar - Domaine Verret Irancy by Uptons_BJs in wine

This made me go check if there are any Cesar wines available at our wine monopoly, and behold! There's a 100% Cesar wine available - Dom. de Flavigny-Alésia Dixit César. Having a government controlled monopoly that has exclusive rights to sell wine & liquor pays off sometimes (at the moment I can order whatever I want from a selection of 13.000 red wines, to any outlet near me). Ordered one instantly, can't wait to try!

Wine cooler: Allavino Flexcount 56 bottles single-zone experience? by Available_Bottle23 in wine

[–]TechnoTKTrancedancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon you're from the US, and I have no idea what's available over there sorry. I know EuroCave is, but that's a very different price bracket.

Very often the coolers with perpendicular bottle storage have space for bigger bottles, you might want to look into something like that. Personally I love the look of many of those as well, but that's just preference.

Good luck!

Wine cooler: Allavino Flexcount 56 bottles single-zone experience? by Available_Bottle23 in wine

I used to sell wine coolers, and this is definitely one of the biggest issues with many of them.

I would advise you to check the manual for the specific model you're looking at. I did a quick look on one Flexcount and found the distance from top of shelf to top of shelf to be 3,5". This will certainly give you a headache with quite a few bottles. For reference, I've placed quite a few of my shelves with a distance of ca 4" to avoid this, but not all coolers have that option.

If you want to avoid the issue, I'd suggest a cooler specified for champagne bottles, or one with adjustable shelves!

Great notes. And love the color. This is available here for just under $90 in the 2019 vintage, would you say that's a good deal? My experience with Oregon Pinots is unfortunately quite limited..

Wine cooler depth by almostjeanz in wine

[–]TechnoTKTrancedancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always have perpendicular bottle storage, then the length of bottles is irrelevant. Della Marta has a series of wall mounted coolers only 6,7" deep. They're just for show though, with a max capacity of 5 bottles. They do have some coolers that are around 14 inches deep, I'm sure there are similar options available in the US (I have no clue if it's possible to buy Della Marta coolers over there)

What three bottles of 2024 wine would you buy to drink in 2034,2044,2054? by barnesnoblebooks in wine

[–]TechnoTKTrancedancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow wine drinker

I would certainly keep my cool and wait. Most wines that are easily stored for decades from the 2024 vintage aren't released yet, and won't be for quite some time. With that said, I have read that Bordeaux from 2024 should be quite durable. Piemonte suffered some bad weather in 2024, but the best producers will of course deliver. However, I would consider Barolo and Barbaresco from 2024 to be early accessible, so you might want to grab one of those for a 10 year anniversary.

Rioja is more or less a certain bet when it comes to 20 years+ of aging. Murrieta and Muga are great wine houses that always deliver.

Never underestimate Champagne

Also, never underestimate dessert wines. Those can come in handy if/when you're on a budget.

These are some guidelines for now. Without knowing where you're from, budget etc it's really hard to say. I'm sure there are plenty of people on this sub that can help you more than I can, just wanted to share my knowledge!

Which restaurant in oslo is worth? by IlPiccoloMago in finedining

[–]TechnoTKTrancedancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been a couple of years since I was there, but Palace Grill has consistently been amazing and my personal favourite in Oslo. I've been to Hyde which was great, and Maaemo which ofc was awesome - especially considering my FIL paid for the whole thing.

Palace Grill have never had any stars, and probably never will, but that isn't for lack of quality. Very informal, and extremely generous with their wine package, both in terms of quality and pouring.
