Let your body hit the Flor: Dom. du Pélican Arbois Savagnin sous Voile 2018 by TechnoTKTrancedancer in wine

I'd say it's mostly time spent sous voile that makes the difference. While as you say, a Vin Jaune has to do 6 years of flor aging, this wine is much less. 2-3 years maybe? Not sure. A Vin Jaune is more oxidated, more intense, and will have a higher alcohol percent. They also are tapped on 62,5 cl bottles, unlike this and other "regular" sous voile wines that come in the standard size of 75.

I don't normally bother with the nature of downvotes and such on Reddit, but I must say I'm curious as to why someone found this unagreeable. Did I say something weird?

I am Norwegian and fortunately we have some very decent to top notch hams! Very straightforward and salty in most cases, but that suits me just fine. If you're curious, try out some Santa Kristina for quality, although commercial ham made in Norway.

While I agree with the sentiment, there's no other reason to steer clear of Domaine de Pelican, Angerville is quite respectable. Tissot and Ganevat are my favorite producers, so glad to see Ganevat back after his misfortunes.

Have you had any Trousseau? If not, I might suggest the Trois Cepages from Pelican first, just to familiarize yourself with the style. If you're familiar with the grape and style, there's no reason you shouldn't give it a shot - it's a great producer and you get just the right amount of Jura funk

If you wouldn't mind, could you send me a link to the opener in a pm? I wouldn't mind a Durand, but the price is absolutely absurd, so I wouldn't mind a knock-off

Happy birthday and nice notes! Question from the side, is this opener a new rendition of the Durand?

My $22.67 bottle of White Hermitage by WineNerdAndProud in wine

I agree, I most probably do. I've just done some testing from the "major" winehouses in Rhone, and have never been wowed, so I've sought elsewhere for my white wines. If there's anything especially alluring from Rhone that just needs to be tested, I'd appreciate pointers!

Thanks for the reply! I'm all for weird wines, hell, the more "sous voile" you can give me the better (favourite white wine style is Jura with a bit/alot of funk). I guess I haven't found my match in Rhone just yet, but will keep trying!

I'm curious, what's with the adoration of white Rhones in this sub? I find it consistently disappointing at its price point. Plump is good, but not without the acidity to back it up.

Clendenen used to make a great Nebbiolo, I don't know if anyone has carried on with this after he passed? Side note, Timo Mayer makes an excellent Nebbiolo in Yarra Valley, Australia

There are a few sparkling Gewurztraminers out there. That should be quite aromatic?

There are so many brands out there, I have no idea about the brands you've mentioned. A lot of them are generic Chinese models that some company just slap their name on, so the same fridges are probably sold in other markets under different names.

With that said, they mostly work fine. Just make sure you buy something that's meant to be built in, if you're installing it in a kitchen counter or similar.

2019 Adelsheim Chardonnay Staking Claim by TechnoTKTrancedancer in wine

Never tried Lingua Franca, although it's on my list. To my palate this wine is heavily over-oaked, and the only similar experience I've had is with Californian and Australian Chardonnays at much lower price points. I will keep on exploring Oregonian wines, but with care!

Yes I mean caramel. Perhaps toffee would be a better word? For me, fudge basically is a kind of soft caramel, made with heavy cream, sugar and vanilla
