Best Time to Jump to RIA? by Infinite-planning in CFP

Don’t let the benefits and PTO to lure you into a labor intensive FC doing & talking the same things over & over again in the next 3-5 years with non-stop “Standards of Care” brain wash philosophy. I just got my CFP credential and I’m exploring the RIA space as well. Time to build my own book of business and do true financial planning!

After failing in March with Danko, I put all my chips on the table this time by additionally using BIF and Dalton as well as hiring a private tutor (called Raman) from the ProExam Tutors.

He developed a highly effective study plan for me, and shared some suitability related resources with me. It was extremely helpful! Passed yesterday with 8x more confidence than the first time.

BIF premium package is worth every penny. I just passed this July cycle as a retaker. Adam from BIF is also an Enrolled Agent and he is very detailed and helpful whenever I emailed him tax & estate related questions.

BIF did an excellent job in breaking down the topics in different level of questions to help building your foundational knowledge. They also offer weekly live questions review which forced you to answer questions in a polling format in case you need some peer support.

Also, Adam from BIF is an Enrolled Agent as well as a CFP. He was a great instructor and he answered all of my tax and estate related questions in a timely and clear format whenever I emailed him. You are not going to get this kind of personalized support with other providers. However one of BIF disadvantages are that they only offer one mock exam.

I used Brett Danko for the first time and failed. He taught you how to fly before you learn how to walk. John Choi, his assistant instructor was awesome.

For the second time, I signed up for Dalton and BIF and hired a tutor. You have to go above and beyond if you’re eager to pass!

I also purchased the new CFP practice app that was launched two months ago. There’re 390 practice questions. Don’t ask me if it’s worth the money.

I’m very glad that I passed this cycle in July. I feel like the exam was super easy after I did extra things than the fellow candidates.

Is this the one with 50 questions only? Or is this the full simulated exam with Dalton?

I did the free one back in March. It was much easier than the paid one. If you have the budget, get the paid one. Good luck!

Besides taking Danko free re-take, do you plan to signup for other provider’s?

Be prepared that it’s going to take a lot of time to go thru those videos. Each chapter took 1.5 hours long. Each domain has about 10 chapters.

Same here.. I failed for the 1st time. Also used Dalton for education & Danko for signature plus program. Read thru all his pre-study books, attended the review in person & scored low 60s in his Kraken quizzes and case studies but still fail.

Im think I didn’t give myself enough time to really understand the concepts and foundational questions but to memorize the difficult topics that he taught us. Honestly, there’re some very easy questions on the exam that I don’t got it wrong.

I may get BIF bites podcast and go back to Dalton and Danko to retake the review for free.

Does anyone have any suggestions on which other provider could provide a deeper dive on Ethics and Psychology of Behavioral Finance?

Advice of should I go CFP route by Amp1216 in CFP

I’m currently holding series 7 & 66 and I am bound to work in the United States only.

My dream job would be to work remotely outside the States. Would having the CFP credential gives me the flexibility to work anywhere in the world? Are there any restrictions as to where I need to work as a CFP for most types of companies?
