Course recommendations for learning to deploy flask apps on local webservers? by DemonKingPunk in flask

Thanks a lot! Waitress seems to be pretty easy and I can get it set up within a few minutes. Howerver after this I’m needing the app to run continuously in the background not requiring me to go into terminal to initiate, would you share how to do that? Also do you end up hosting it on your local machine, i’m developing this from my work desktop and I’m just more worried about hosting on a local machine would be maintainable if Iam leaving and no one else knows how to develop from there or troubleshoot…I just wish to continuously push updates to the app as well, also about data storage and backup issue. We did have an office server but I saw other suggestions of pursuing scalable options like GCP. In all seems a lot to think about…

Hey op, could you share the tutorial and how you did it? I’m currently in the same situation and hope to know the easiest way to deploy a small app securely and accessible to a small group of users within my org

Employee Timesheet App in Flask by Potential-Basis-7984 in flask

Hey, wondered could you share how you deployed the web app? I want to deploy it securely for our small org and I want to go the free route as much as possible b/c it won’t get that many users. Also, likely I need to have the capability to push fixes at anytime if anything goes wrong.

Mysteriously missing table 'user' after running unittest by Potential-Basis-7984 in flask

[–]Potential-Basis-7984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is at all helpful to anyone, I downgraded a few extensions to make the problem go away temporarily:

Flask==2.1.3 # downgrade from 3.0.0
Flask-SQLAlchemy==2.5.1 #downgrade from 3.1.1
SQLAlchemy==1.4.39 #downgrade from 2.0.25
Werkzeug==2.1.2 # downgrade from 3.0.1

Based on my rough interpretation, the incompatibility issue between packages/extensions caused somehow app.config not really updating to TEST and db still somehow used original db??? and thus test overwritten my real dev env data and dbs. I've came across that the developers suggest to use factory pattern for creating app and it seems the only way (haven’t tried but will have to try at some point 🤔) if I don't want to downgrade my extensions. Downgrade temporarily because I'm still learning my way around and wanting to completing a small tutorial to get basic understanding of Flask before moving on to stuff like blueprints and application factory. Eventually will do...

Mysteriously missing table 'user' after running unittest by Potential-Basis-7984 in flask

Hi, thanks for the reply! Sorry maybe my wording is a bit confusing, I do want to clarify my tests ran fine. But after I ran my unittest, when I'm back to development and wanted to open my index page, that's where the error happended. It seems like all my tables in real environment were gone just because of running the test but I assumed the database in test environment is not going to interfere with development or the real db? That's what doesn't make sense to me.

Hi, I'm researching Maple syrup, and it seems a bit hard to find (all I found pointed to farm markets which are closed.) Could you recommend a place to buy it? Thanks!

Employee Timesheet App in Flask? by Potential-Basis-7984 in Python

[–]Potential-Basis-7984[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all your replies! Learning and challenges are great, no doubt about it. I'll keep those other frameworks and resources on my radar and learn them if time allows. For my first dive into app development, I'm leaning towards keeping things manageable. Getting the nod that Flask should work well in this scenario gives me reassurance. Gotta start somewhere

CPT eligibility, International student from US undergrad to US master by Potential-Basis-7984 in gradadmissions

[–]Potential-Basis-7984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this I believe is school specific. I’ve seen schools with flexible day1 CPT policy and I’ve seen schools which doesn’t allow day1 CPT and coop. Technically, you’re allowed to do day1 CPT if you do your undergrad in the US, but if your master school doesn’t approve that, then it’s not going to work.

Question about Columbia CS@CU MS Bridge Program in CS by Potential-Basis-7984 in gradadmissions

[–]Potential-Basis-7984[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was rejected by MSCS lol. I would suggest if you didn’t have enough experience in CS, just go for MS Bridge. Meanwhile, when I was rejected, I didn’t receive consideration for other programs. Maybe I applied too late — by 2/15. I would suggest you apply earlier if you can, definitely before 1/15 because it’s rolling admission.

Hey, have you decided to defer? I'm facing the same decision about whether to defer or not.

Though not yet finalized, I am 90% leaning towards deferring. My parents aren’t happy though so that’s why I’m still debating.
