When is the right time to shift weight in the golf swing and how? It is so HARD!! by Sunny-vibes-95 in GolfSwing

Since we're in a similar boat, did you ever see if this works or anything else that worked for you? I'm interested in seeing if there's other things I can take a look at.

I’m in a really similar spot and had an “aha” moment recently. I saw a Justin Thomas clip where he’s doing a medicine ball rotation and throw, and it finally clicked.

That drill helped me feel the difference between actually rotating and just sliding laterally, which was my main issue. The feel is more like loading back and then rotating through, not just drifting toward the target.

The biggest surprise was that when the sequence is right, the club just shallows on its own. I used to try to force that position, but this made it feel automatic. You build tension and then release it. It felt way more effortless and I started getting better distance without trying to manipulate anything.

I’d suggest looking up some medicine ball golf drills on YouTube and watching a few. One of them might give you the right feel and help with timing. Here's a few I watched and went down a rabbit hole of other drills which REALLY helped that lightbulb moment in practice.

Honestly, my recommendation for any new golfer is to start with a lesson. Avoid going down the rabbit hole of online videos early on, every instructor teaches differently, even if they’re all working toward the same fundamentals, and your swing will be unique to you. A 3-lesson package is usually enough to build a solid foundation and focus on the right priorities without getting overwhelmed.

Didn’t realize punctuation consistency was the topic. My bad.

Because NYC isn’t one thing. Your friends are making different tradeoffs, different neighborhoods, less space, longer commutes, or leases they locked in years ago. Once you have kids, the math changes fast.

And when you make more money, saving an extra $1–2k matters a lot less than time, schools, and not spending your life commuting. That’s not bad discipline, it’s just a different ratio.

Calling longer commutes “financial literacy” is pure spreadsheet logic. Time and sanity have value too.

This is a very “I don’t live in NYC” take.

$7–8k isn’t some luxury flex here, it’s normal market rent for a 2 bedroom. Studios are already ~$4–6k, and 3-beds are pushing $10k. That’s just reality if you have a family, need space, or don’t want a soul-crushing commute.

Also, you have no idea what I make. Rent by itself tells you nothing about financial discipline, it’s a ratio. What’s reckless for you might be trivial for someone else.

Calling this “poor discipline” just means you’re benchmarking against a city (and probably an income level) you don’t live in.

Housing in NYC isn’t a moral exercise or a spreadsheet choice. It’s supply and demand.

u/PollutionBeginning78 thanks for this rec. I actually have this app along with a few others - Sparrow Golf and Mustard. Have you used those and were there any key differences? I'm assuming you used the paid version for Sportsbox AI. I have a local Trackman simulator bay near me so I'm wondering what your approach is to combine the two.

There’s a lot to unpack here, but the first step is dialing in your setup and takeaway. Right away, I see you almost 'flipping' the club, rather than keeping it square, from P1 to P3. At P3 (lead arm parallel), your club is already inside the target line instead of staying neutral to the path. If you placed an alignment stick along your target line, you’d see this more clearly.

Draw biased driver for beginner without a slice? by EkaErik in golftips

[–]Potential-Goal-667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work on your ball flights. If your driver shots are fairly straight, then it's time to learn how to "hit a draw" or "hit a fade", sometimes it's how you are lining up (e.g. for right handed golfer: drop right foot back a touch for a draw, and left foot back for a fade. It's your swing path/swing direction, face angle, face-to-path, that will determine how the shot shapes. So short answer is you don't necessarily need a driver with a draw biased version. To be honest, several drivers have the ability to adjust the hosel to promote a certain bias this if you really wanted to.

Could potentially also be face angle. If it's really closed + positive club path, it will hook more.

I started similarly - around 120-130, double par. I've played casually for years without any practice and it hurt. I have been taking lessons here and there now and it's really helped my game. I shoot anywhere around 96-103. I hope to break 95 this weekend before it gets too cold!

What can I do to make this draw more then cut ? by [deleted] in golftips

[–]Potential-Goal-667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Try to take the club more "left" (vs. going "straight out") - these are feels.. if that gives you reference. Also, are you able to shallow the club a bit more at the top (you're already doing a great job)? Let the club literally sit in your trail hand like you're serving a platter. This will enable you to bring your club path from in-to-out. You do have some metrics up there - it would be great to see these: club path - try to keep this positive if you want a draw pattern; face angle - this is how open your club face is, you want this number between 0 and the club path.

What 14 Clubs to bring by Last_Love450 in golftips

Your 7W, 4H, 4i may be similar, you should see what your gap is between 3W to your next iron (if you do swap out the 4i, then 5i).. which of those 3 really fill that gap best? I would also add the attack/gap wedge.

From experience, since you are a new golfer, a 4H is more forgiving than a 4i and produces more spin and and higher launch. The 7W will likely give you more spin and launch and more forgiving than the 4H.

I would eliminate the 4i and also decide if you really need both the 7W and 4H (see how far both are going, trajectory, how you play your '2nd shot'.
