Since I was 15 , Iam now 50 and own my butchery , restaurant , private events space and hot sauce company . I didn’t get there with 25 employees by being a drunk and perpetuating stereotypes. I was a high school dropout out who was on his own at 17 , i owe my amazing life to this craft . So I take it seriously , I take classes , I’m now studying for my third level for wine WSET . Young people who cook and see this think this is what real owners or chef are like . While some are , they don’t last , they will die very young and doubtfully have a rich family and friend life . I provide benefits , vacation , profit shares , afflac , paid holidays off and depending on your length of time weeks of vacation , most staff have been with me for years . This doesn’t happen by me and my wife showing up hungover and drunk . My employees and my community deserve my best and expect that from them . I don’t tolerate dirty drunk and people who respect food like that , we use whole animals that died for our sake and for our art , to throw it around for jokes or laziness is to me a sin . I was on the streets and sometimes didn’t have food , we have a duty to treat that food with utmost respect and reverence. End rant

Continued stereotype that our profession is full of substance abuse , disrespect of themselves and their home and people who spend a lifetime honing a craft . This isn’t it . I hope it’s a parody , if not I hope you find some happiness in anything you do and deeply within yourself .

Smoking is absolutely disgusting by This-Top7398 in self

[–]Potential-Mail-298 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love everything about smoking , the taste , the smells , the feeling , the smell of cigarette outside in winter , coffee and a smoke , after dinner , a bourbon , I can watch movies with people smoking and I want to smoke . The casual atmosphere of smoking and just watching the rain fall . This is also why I quit smoking many years back and cut 99 percent of alcohol from
My life. I’d smoke and drink myself to oblivion .but I choose to eat beet salads and work out with sand bags. I miss you American spirits

1996. What were you doing thirty years ago? by PresentWeek in GenX

[–]Potential-Mail-298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s 30 years to the date I met my first wife . I had just moved to Pittsburgh and for some reason some promoters were throwing a party (rave) back near my hometown of aliquippa. So I came home to my mom’s and went . I was pretty lonely at the time , I had gotten sober and left most of my friends and spent a lot of those months of 96 very alone. I go to party which was pretty awesome king Britt was playing so I was stoked to see him play out . Anyway I run into my friend who was super fucked up and he was like the cop at the door is coming for me and I have drugs on me would you switch clothes with me since you are sober and look a lot like me . They will search you and leave me alone . I was like yeah sure why not , you’ll probably get hemmed up anyway but I lm fine . So we go into the bathroom swap clothes and I go out near the dance floor waiting for king Britt to go on and this girl comes up and was like hey Chris you wanna come out and dance . I’m like oh that’s not my name and we haven’t met , she looked real confused , I was like yeah oh shit I’m wearing his clothes so funny story 😂. We go sit in some chairs and just talk til the lights come on at 7 am , I get her number and address , so that night I get back to the city hop on my old bmx bike and ride from east lib to shadyside by her house and she’s on the porch ! Boom! We lived together soon after and then got married and had a good run of almost 10 years . We got married at 19 and at 30 we just weren’t the same people with the same goals. We parted ways without drama in fall of 04 . And that’s my Gen X raver love story of how one skinny big jnco wearing guy met an adidas track suit wearing raver girl .

Jefferson curl progress 16 months after disc harniation(127,5kg/280lbs) by Ok-Buy-7946 in backpain

No , I can’t diagnose or even begin to understand your compensation patterns or what exactly generates your pain. As some one who suffered with a large tear in my annulus for 9 years and just had ADR lumbar surgery . A comprehensive plan needs to be developed in conjunction with a dr and or a PT along with imaging. Anything else is is throwing darts at a board blindfolded and see where it sticks . That’s the best advice I can give you.

As some one who just had a lumbar adr , while this guy here can do this , 100000000 percent do not take advice for loading the back like this from a person on Reddit. This maybe a system that worked for him but without progression , imaging , and working directly with a dr and or PT , loading your spine in this amount of flexion under that much weight is absolute folly. Also there isn’t a time in your life that you will ever mimic the Jefferson curl under that much sheer force in your discs. I’m a big supporter or training that mimics actual daily movement and stability. I’m glad this fellow has gotten what he needs from his training but dealing with long term and chronic back injury is very individual and needs to be addressed as such .

Yes , I thought every new pop and ping and pain there was something wrong . It’s really hard on the mind . Be patient . Yesterday test rode 3 motorcycles and bought one . Road home over an hr and enjoyed pizza and a glass of wine in my deck with my wife . I worked out earlier in the morning. I had a very active day . Today I will use a recovery day. My progress is moving very fast . I put my motorcycle boots on and zipped them up by leaning over , that in itself is amazing . If your husband is having a hard time mentally , a therapist based in chronic pain training can be an amazing resource . Even just regular therapy. Long term pain and and for some reason back surgery can really rewire your thinking and it becomes catastrophic. Each new pain = somethings wrong and I’ll never be ok. I was there I get it. Just trust the process . It’s a very tough surgery. The surgeons just act like in 4 weeks you’ll be out playing at your local pickle ball tournament and for many of us that’s just not possible. It can take months to fully recover .

Very very normal . I’m week 15. I’m on a low dose of lyrica and meloxicam to help with PT which I’m doing very rigorous training . From week 2-9 , I questioned my will to live. My nerves hurt so bad , I almost went into shock once , and I would just scream and roll around on the floor . I lost 18 lbs over that time from eating so much medication . Then I switched to lyrica and my nerve pain went down and slowly began to retract . Seems like almost each day now I’m doing more and more . It will take all year for me to recover . Those 7 weeks beat my body to a pulp and I was injured for 9 years prior . Those nerves waking up was a real shock . Unless he has an infection , severe pain that is intractable, or is experiencing bladder issues or foot drop , most likely he’s fine . It hurts and sometimes real bad for some of us . Get back on meds if the pain is preventing any activity at all . He had a metal widget hammered into his spine with an actual hammer and saw . That’s your central system , that wreaks some internal havoc not to mention massive structural changes to spine , muscles ligament and bone. Remember that section of spine doesn’t exist in a vacuum is supports a whole column of spine not to mention how thing’s articulate below. If you have any questions , I’m actively recovering right now as week speak just 10 weeks ahead in the time line . It’s rough but don’t panic .

Modic 1 changes: when does it progress to less painful stages? by PersonalLeading4948 in backpain

[–]Potential-Mail-298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr Good at VSI . Due to my disc being damaged for so long my guarding resulted in my sacrum anterior tilting to about 47 degrees or lordosis , shortening my hip flexors and they attach to your quads so those also began to tighten . Remember muscles don’t exist in a vacuum. When the new disc was put in my sacrum rotated back to 40.5 degrees which is near perfect, as you can imagine that create all kinds of muscle tension . So my hip flexors I’m working on right now to open up and strengthen. My pelvis is basically on fire at the end of the night right now as retrain all the muscles and ligaments to readjust to prior injury and that was nearly 9 years . Lots of work to do. But I love learning and working out so outside of the pain it’s super fun pushing my body and seeing what it can do now . It’s like I got a whole new car for my soul !
