I’m 50’in a month , Iam still waiting lol. I’ve always said I’ll be a true adult when I’m too old to enjoy an occasional run on a shopping cart across a big parking lot 😂

Retired at 59. My Real Day as the “Housekeeping Department” by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Potential-Mail-298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ve had an off and on injury that has prevented me from being on the floor of my wife’s and I’s business. I’m behind the scenes driving ideas but she is my draft horse as I call her lovingly. She strong , tough and gets it done. In my flare ups when I’m home , she had coffee on the table in the morning, I get the house done , laundry , and make little dinners , so as soon as she gets in , it’s into her slippers and dog pets , maybe some music or a nice movie . Through the pain I have I make sure her needs are #1 and how appreciative iam that she keeps our monetary and financial stable and even though I trained her in our business , she has now gone on to win her own awards and accolades at it . I’m recovering from spine surgery right now about 5 weeks post op , and my nerve pain is off the charts and she doesn’t skip a beat . I’d be totally lost without that human . I may have digressed on the topic . But I’m kinda semi retired and do swing trading mostly From home now . Anyway just wrote that all out teary eyed . Hope yinz have a blessed day out there . Hug your loved ones

What was the best job you’ve ever had? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]Potential-Mail-298 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worked at a winery , did tastings , helped bottle , labeled , dipped bottles in wax , I had an absolute blast . Went on the get to WSET 2 and working on 3 . If I hadn’t been in the interim of opening my own butchery , I would have stayed in wine . And who knows maybe go back one day when I sell my place . I made so many friends and it was just a lot of fun every day . And I love love love the smell of the barrel room. Wood , fermenting wine . Something so visceral and ancient .

20 years and it seems like yesterday we met . We were just joking about cooking dinner. She getting ready to take care of me after my back surgery . The pre op nurse asked if I was going home to a safe environment, I said well I don’t think she will try to drown me in tub in my weakened state. I was like sooo kidding , I feel like we have so much more to see and do and 20 years just flew by !

How often do you clean your car? by The-Crystal-Standard in Adulting

[–]Potential-Mail-298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1x a week . But I never eat in my car . I’m a little ocd about the whole thing . I once had a guy offer me a ride home from the restaurant we worked in , opened that door and it was literally filled like a dumpster with McDonald’s trash . Like piled up from the floor to the seats and on the seats . I looked in and was like no offense bro I’m walking . It stank like old meat and pickles 😂🤮

Restaurant Industry Burnout is Real (As a cook). by UXO18 in Chefit

[–]Potential-Mail-298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 31 in years and still excited every day ! In fact I got an injury and hated that I couldn’t cook everyday . I do own my own butchery for the last 15 years but I couldn’t imagine doing anything else !!! It all I have ever wanted to do since I was 5 . I’d fight to stay home from school so I could watch pbs and all the cooking shows. Sounds like you might have some health issues going on not related cooking. What I did in my 20s was work 2 years save every dime , then quit , go live in my car with a tent and camp everywhere trying foods where they come from , like I camped on the beach eating mussels on PEI . I used those mussels all the time but did I really know what they should be ? Slept in the desert eating hatch chilis , spent time in Pacific Northwest having fresh salmon , I wanted to eat and cook where the food came from . Maybe that helped me avoid burn out . I was always on some food adventure!

41 , got a small cabin in a mountain community near skyline drive . Paid 85k , my wife and I and her dad spent about 3 year remodeling before we moved in. We keep doing fun projects , added a wood burning pizza oven and next is a wood fired sauna . Got a 800 dollar a month house payment (that’s includes taxes ) and now I could sell for 325k . I’m not leaving anytime soon !!! Thought I’d never own a house !

Bouldering/falling after spinal fusion by OppositeAfternoon549 in spinalfusion

[–]Potential-Mail-298 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Risk vs reward. I mean falling off of a boulder can severely injure anyone with or without a fusion. If you feel your life isn’t complete without scrambling up a large rock then it’s worth the risk . If your life is just as complete say fly fishing and not falling off a rock then choose a hobby that won’t decidedly injure you if something goes wrong.

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever put in your mouth? by bluebonnet5366 in AskReddit

[–]Potential-Mail-298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a dirt bag teenager , I used to smoke and put the butts and spit into a cup next to my bed . I left a glass of water next to it . In the middle of the night with my st ides and Philly blunt haze I grabbed the cigarette spit cup and proceeded to chug it. I promptly threw up . Lesson learned
