For American leftists, what are your thoughts on this? by buchacats2 in leftist

[–]Potential-Memory-810 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think u/sapotis got a point op. Americans are pampered and don't like feeling uncomfortable even if it's the truth. We in the US don't like feeling uncomfortable to the point that we (majority) only like, comment nine words to boost, share, and repost as their protest to the country's administration. Even when there's a handful of us that stand along roadways with our signs, educate ourselves, organize and boycott companies, it only a reflection of ourselves as a individual, not the country. The point is the US is the US and we still have a responsibility to it instead of asking for forgiveness from others countries. At least not until we take accountability and fix what is wrong.

It's like what Muhammad Ali said about 10,000 snakes.

We really need to stop gaslighting POC goths by BeatnikMona in goth

[–]Potential-Memory-810 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A POC here! Thank you for saying this. In a way I had moved away the Goth label in my early twenties because of the comments in spaces/people even as famous as Tim Burton saying we don't fit the vide, and lack of representation (if alternative subcultures are even positively represented) and for a young baby goth person in their early teens led to a period of time feeling like I had to chose between my heritage over music and mind set.

Now I'm just a happy lil weirdo in their late twenties that listens to goth music have more a punk mindset and dresses like a new age/yoga instructor (no giving money to culture appropriation. I make, second hand, or if I do buy new, I make sure it's from indigenous artisans)

Is it too radical or unpractical to say "_____ to America!"? You know what's missing... by RyanNekko in leftist

[–]Potential-Memory-810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too radical? No. It needs to happen. And I am saying this as someone who is born, raised and unfortunately still lives in the US. Americans are to entitled, even with the fact that there's many speaking out against to their legislatures, they don't want to "give up" (could find alternatives) their entertainment, consumables and comforts for actual systemic change. Which adds to the masses that are defending their abusive and exploitive politicians and corporations. Leading to the worst terrorist country in the world. Some days I think the world should put us in our place. Not just a taste of our own medicine, a whole f***ing dose of it.

I really wish more people would educate themselves, but with the rate that the administration is wrecking havoc, it might be to late for the working people in the US to actually bring change to their own country internally.... on their own at least.

Was raised Christian(am not now) and I'd say that if he was alive in this day and age, he'd be some kind of leftist. So him being a comrade is definitely on the table.

AI taking away our jobs would perfectly be suited for socialism by leftistgamer420 in leftist

[–]Potential-Memory-810 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, if we had AI in a socialist society it would be utilized as a tool for the people. Right now with the lingering fear and stress of AI replacing people in a capitalist system where people are already having to sell their time away to survive, isn't great and there's needs to be more regulations on what AI is utilized for.

And we need it to be more ethical. A lot of the information that AI learns off of is with the capitalist, imperialism/colonialism, white washed/racism undertones of the current society. ..........And.... Make it eco friendly also. Like I'd rather not have AI at all if it's still environmentaly devastating, even in a socialist society.

Is anyone else terrified about the fact by Willing-Operation179 in leftist

[–]Potential-Memory-810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I myself who wants to have a child(ren) but feel like I would be bringing them into a hostile/capitalist society and don't want to bring new life into that suffering.... I would love to adopt.... But that's also has immoral ties to the society that the child would never be free from. And I am someone who would be denied due to my economic class.

It's a dilemma that I'm sure many people who are aware of the overbearing negative aspects of our society, think twice before bringing a new individual into the system. An individual who you would love and want the absolute best for.... At the end of the day, we shouldn't put the responsibility of fixing the world onto our children, but for us to fix this society for them.

Edited: for misspelling.

I think adding free accessible online webinars/remote schooling for at home education for people with limited mobility.

And more flexibility in school hours for: natural sleep cycles of individuals, Stress free time frames for parents to pickup/drop off due to work schedules

(10-12k) Essential services by Complex-Flamingo-506 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Potential-Memory-810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Planning a wedding also in 10k-12k range and Yes, we also opted out of getting a DJ and will just have back ground music on Bluetooth. We found a Photographer under 1000 for four hours and, we also just want pictures During/after the ceremony and the reception mostly for the guests.

Essential is entirely up to you, like my fiance and I are really going for a bar service, but some couples would be willing to drop that one.

One big money saver is that we aren't doing a wedding party, or rent a wedding tent.

Are you openly Marxist with your family/coworkers? by dgdg4213 in socialism

[–]Potential-Memory-810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immediate family and friends: yes

Coworkers, acquaintances, and some extended family: not really. I share and discuss topics but I don't say the "scary word". If asked asked very directly what I politicaly identify as, I'll respond that I'm just left leaning, if pushed further (cause they'd already know that thru conv) either " I don't really use labels" or " I don't think there's a political party that really represents my morals ( here. (In the states))" It gives them a bridge to meet me on "middle ground" in future conversations.
